(More customer reviews)A bizarre mix of creative talents went in to making this movie. Not the kind of thing that happens too often these days. A script from Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, direction by Walter Hill and his usual gang (strong editing from Freeman Davies, cool photography from Lloyd Ahern and score by Ry Cooder), Bill Paxton and William Sadler as the 'heroes' and Ice T and Ice Cube as the bad guys. It makes for a truly original movie.
Much like Judgment Night, Trespass is about two worlds colliding after bystanders witness a gangland execution. Two firemen on a treasure hunt in a huge, long abandoned East St. Louis factory. This happens to be the same territory as King James (Ice T) and his cohorts. They off some unwise punk by chucking him thru the glass roof and are pretty mortified upon discovering Bill Paxton and William Sadler are watching them. Ice T's crippled brother is taken hostage by Sadler and they seal themselves in old apartment. Several other bad guys show up and totally box them in.
What follows is a succession of stand-offs and shoot outs as Paxton and Sadler fight among themselves, T and Cube argue over who should be running the show, loyalties are challenged and each group begins to split into different factions. Stuck in the crossfire is poor old Bradlee, the innocent hobo caught in the middle as his apartment is besieged.
There are no clear-cut 'good guys' and 'bad guys' in Trespass. Just a bunch of guys who all came to the wrong place at the wrong time.
Originally called 'Looters' and scheduled for release during Summer 1992 the release date was changed to Winter and the title changed to 'Trespass'. Why? The LA riots were happening and Universal felt that there was enough racial tension in the media already. While I agree there is deliberate racism in this film it's nowhere near as bad as the morbidly extreme racism in such recent movies like Bad Boys II.
This new release by Universal is much better than the pathetic (and now OOP) release by Goodtimes. Gone is the snapper case. In its place is a sturdy keepcase and a nice bundle of extras. First of all there are some deleted scenes, a Behind the Scenes of Trespass featurette, the Ice-T/Ice Cube Trespass music video (it's the highly censored 'radio' edit) and a trailer.
You should definitely get this as it's not the standard of film Hollywood studios produce these days. IE made by talented people.

If you missed any of the episode or would like to watch the episodes over and over again (like I do) so you can catch the witty dialogue, you would get this DVD collection covering the first two seasons. And it is well-worth getting the DVD just to be able to feel transported into that small town cozy banter anytime you feel like it rather than wait for a rerun.

History -- Modern Marvels Route 66 Review

(More customer reviews)When I was 14 I travelled Rt 66 with my parents. As young as I was it felt very special to me and I never forgot it. I saw this video on the History Channel and when it came available for purchase, I bought it.
Actually, I bought it as a gift for my husband because he's travelled it also and we both felt a connection to that road. We have friends in Flagstaff, AZ and they live just minutes from 66 that still runs through town -- always a pleasure to be there. We love this DVD because it gives history, pictures, and memories of a great time.

The Jacksons: America's First Family of Music, Vol. 1 (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)If you don't mind the 30 minutes of this video, then it's worth buying it. Yes, it is also true, that I do wish it were longer, but I am a true Jackson fan (always have and will be!). I love to share the DVD with others who can't afford it. I loan it out to my friends and family. This is a collectors item. Marlon did a great job with the details of his musical family. Quite funny in the end when they did a few out takes before the credits rolled, I laughed knowing that the brothers have a great sense of humor. Still a very personal and informative short documentary. To me, this was not disappointing at all.

Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory: Season 2 Review

(More customer reviews)If you're looking just to enjoy the respective episodes of the Fantasy Factory 2 then this DVD is for you. However if you're looking for the same production quality found within the first season DVD that was released by MTV you may have to keep waiting. The episodes have no commentary, the menus are bland, and though the DVD does include deleted scenes you just can't pick a specific scene you have to watch them all. And the deleted scenes included within the dvd have poor sound quality with peoples voices randomly cutting in and out.

Outlaw Prophet (2004) Review

I actually had the opportunity of meeting David Heavener and asking him about the movie. This was before I had seen the movie, though. He told me that the movie was intentionally made cheesy to give it that B-movie feel. And this wasn't his first film but it was the first film he entirely financed by himself. So, that somewhat explains why it was so low-quality.
In closing:
This movie had a loose plot and poor dialogue. But from what I've heard from David Heavener, it was made to be a really "bad" Sci-Fi movie. It takes a lot of stereotypes & cliches commonly found in most Sci-Fi/Fantasy movies. Not to mention, that he payed for this entire movie out-of-pocket. To my knowledge, and I could be wrong, this was also the first "christian" movie he had ever produced/directed & acted in. As for the music video, I agree that it could've been done a lot better. But Heavener does have a good voice and for the style of music he plays (ie. INSP rock) it's fairly decent.
Overall, it's fun(ny) to watch but I unless you're a hardcore fan of ultralow-budget ridiculously corny Sci-Fi films, like I am, I would only rent this movie.
Trivia:
The scene where John141(Heavener) stumbles upon what appears to be a church BBQ was actually the first shot scene of the movie. And it was completely improvised. He bought the costume at a costume store & none of the people that he interacts with in this scene are actors.

(More customer reviews)What a wacky movie this is. When I first saw the previews, I thought this Kick-Ass was going to be aimed at kids and teens. Boy was I way off, because it earns it's R rating many times over. I really had no intention of seeing this film until I saw the very positive reviews flowing in from the critics. Not that I always agree with them, but in this case I would like to thank them for getting my butt down to the local theater today.
Parts of the movie reminded me of Watchmen. You have everyday people who are sick of bad things happening to good people, decide to put on costumes, have funny hero names, and then beat and cut apart the bad guys in a not so nice way. I actually thought it was rather tame in the gore department, compared to what I read about beforehand, but the violence and language is way too strong for kids.
The acting is good from everyone. I liked newcomer Aaron Johnson as Kick-Ass himself. Nicolas Cage turns in one of his better performaces in a long time, though I think he was great in an over-the-top kind of way in The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans. Christopher Mintz-Plasse is still doing his McLovin thing in every movie since Superbad, but it worked again. Mark Strong is kind of one note as the villain, like in Sherlock Holmes, but I think he's a little better in this role. The real star of the show is little 11-year-old, Chloe Moretz, as Hit-Girl. She is clearly the most memorable thing in a movie with a bunch of stuff worth remembering. As the daughter of Cage's Big Daddy hero, she spews out bad language, slices and shoots baddies by the dozens, and loves her daddy. I want one of my own.
Kick-Ass is serious in tone most of the time, but there are some killer comedy bits and lines that had the whole theater erupting with laughter. The music is well placed in key scenes and the director/writer, Matthew Vaughn, did a fine job in creating a comic book film that should please both fans and non-fans of the genre alike.
Even though it looks like Kick-Ass will come in #1 this weekend, it still feels more like a cult film to me. I can easily see this movie being talked about decades from now, much like Army of Darkness, but without the campiness factor. What a breath of fresh air in a genre that has just as many misses as it does hits.

the cool thing about this serie, is that is a good drama, with very realistic characters, that you can relate to, but it also has a great touch of humor. the dialogs are amazing! it's very fun to see how the writters, include pop culture into the story.
the characters are so sweet, even the bad guys can be loved, because a good thing in this show is that none of the characters is perfect, so we can se the good side and the bad side of the story
I reccomened 100% to buy this set of dvd, you will never regret it. gilmore girls rock!

(More customer reviews)Far be it from me to question the less than concrete proof of the Vatican and our Protestant bretheren but was the entire Jesus saga about not wanting to pay Roman taxes? From what I saw, the land of Israel was arid and did not yield many crops, Jews had to pay taxes to the temple and people barely got by. No one was revolting until the Romans came and demanded they honor Rome's pagan gods and PAY TAXES. This caused the everyday Jew to have even less and that is when they started stirring up trouble with the jewish elders who had no problem paying homage to Rome. While this show really illustrates the Romans as cruel tyrants it also showed me that in their eyes Jesus was nothing more than a criminal who was justly put down. As for the Armaggedon talk, it clearly illustrates that the jews saw the end of times as happeneing right before their eyes in their lifetime and were not predicting the actual end of the earth but the end of the Jewish religion.
Would we act any different if some American Indian was dodging taxes, commiting murders and calling for the end of the U.S. government?
We would out his ass down just like the Romans did Jesus!!
Moral of this DVD - Just pay your taxes and don't commit crimes and you can live in peace!
