Unavailable for many years in the United States as a result of claims that one of the actresses appearing disrobed was underaged, the film concerns two orphaned sisters who travel from 18th century Venice to the village of Karnstein as wards of their uncle. The village elders, led by Peter Cushing,practice a reign of terror against supposed witches- primarily single, young women, as a symbol of their frustration against the real evil and debauchery of Count Karnstein. Karstein, protected by the Emperor, spends his evenings attending mock satanic ceremonies in the attendance of nubile young peasant girls. However, he becomes increasingly bored and finally raises the spirit of the long dead carmilla Karnstein who transforms him into a vampire. It is here that the real evil begins. Twins of Evil is fascinating for a number of reasons. Unlike its predecessors- Lust for a Vampire and The Vampire Lovers- Twins of Evil captures the tension between the 18th century Age of Enlightenment and a refusal to let go of superstitions deeply rooted in the history of Europe. Furthermore it pits the tyranny of European monarchies against that of religious fanaticism.Cushing is outstanding as Gustav Vile, as he is tortured by his helplessness against Karnstein and his desire to see God's will done. Cushing had lost his wife prior to the shooting of the film and his greif is evident in the film adding to the darkness and angst of Cushing's character. Lastly, Hammer's use of the Collinson twins adds to the visual beauty of the film juxtaposed against vivid scenes of violence. As a lover of the Hammer genre I quickly snatched this film into my possession and it certainly belongs in the collection of any true horror fan.

The Monster Club Review

(More customer reviews)Back in the mid 60's to early 70's, Amicus Productions (The Studio That Dripped Blood) rivaled the famous Hammer Studios and its' horror films, and the releases from the two English studios were often confused as they often used many of the same actors and directors. Amicus Productions was most famous for its' creepy horror anthologies, including The House that Dripped Blood (1970), Tales from the Crypt (1972), Asylum (1972), The Vault of Horror (1974), and From Beyond the Grave (1975). Amicus, formed by a partnership between producers Milton Subotsky and Max J. Rosenberg, dissolved in the mid 70's, as did Amicus Productions. While many fans mourned the passing of this wonderful and short-lived institution, Subotosky did go on to form Sword and Sorcery Productions, which released The Monster Club (1980), bringing back some of the magic of a time since past.
Directed by Roy Ward Baker, who also did Asylum and The Vault of Horror, along with numerous Hammer films, The Monster Club, based on a book by famed and prolific author R. Chetwynd-Hayes boasts a plethora of stars including Vincent Price, John Carradine, Donald Pleasance, Britt Ekland, Stuart Whitman, and Patrick Magee, among others. There are three stories here, loosely tied together with a wrap-around story and a number of musical performances (B.A. Robertson is great performing 'Sucker for Your Love'), all wonderful in their own right.
The film starts off with the wrap-around story, as we meet a character named after the author of the book the film is based on, R. Chetwynd-Hayes (Carradine) being approached by a man looking for a bite, as he hasn't eaten in a couple of weeks. Chetwynd-Hayes offers assistance in the form of money, but the man, named Eramus (Price) isn't speaking of eating in the normal sense, as he's a vampire and takes some of Chetwynd-Hayes blood, but not to the point where he infects the author. Learning of the man's identity and feeling a debt of gratitude is due, Eramus offers to take Chetwynd-Hayes to a exclusive club, a sort of monster disco, where monsters reside, allowing for the author to gather new material for a future book. After some tongue-in-cheek humor, we are treated to three tales of varying degrees of horror.
The first tale involves couple, George and Angela, of dubious nature looking for their next scheme, and it comes in the form of a position cataloging antiquities for a odd looking man named Raven who rarely leaves his large and expansive estate. Angela applies, but soon balks as she has great apprehension about the man, given his strange appearance. George talks her into going back, and she assumes the position. He seems nice enough, despite his ghoulish appearance, and he certainly has a tempting amount of valuables ripe for the taking. Raven soon becomes enamored with Angela and proposes marriage, to which George sees as a perfect opportunity to have access to Raven's wealth. Well, things soon sour, and we learn Raven is much more than an odd-looking fellow, possessing an interesting method of dealing with those who anger him.
The second story deals with a shy, young boy and his parents, to which the father has a job that requires him to stay out all night, and sleep during the day. Also, the boy learns that he's descended from noble lineage, his father being a count. Can you guess where this is leading? Anyway, not to give too much away, the story deals with vampires and vampires hunters, and actually is the more humorous, despite its' dour beginnings, of the three tales, providing a couple of nice twists at the end. This story stars Britt Ekland and Donald Pleasance.
The third story tells a tale of a director named Sam (Whitman) scouting locations for a new horror film, looking for a village with lots and lots of atmosphere, which he finds, but soon regrets. The village, populated by ghouls, has plans for Sam, and they don't involve making a movie. Sam finds assistance in the form of a girl, and both take refuge in an abandoned church, where Sam learns the awful history of the village, and how it came to such a state that it's in now. Do Sam and the girl manage an escape? Maybe they do, maybe they don't...you'll just have to watch. This tale has the strongest horror element, and a really wonderful, thick, brooding sense of atmosphere. Reminds me a little of a film Vincent Price did back in the day called The Last Man on Earth (1964).
Pathfinder Home Entertainment provides a pretty good wide screen, non-anamorphic print here, which does show minor speckling and occasional murkiness, to which we learn that this was the only print available to them with a on-screen note prior to the beginning of the film. As far as special features go, there are a ton of them. There's a complete musical soundtrack, with the ability to listen to any song from the movie, and there's a lot, with artists like The Pretty Things, UB40, B.A. Robertson, and The Viewers, to name a few. There's also a separate commentary by film critics Luke Y. Thompson and Gregory Weinkauf, a theatrical trailer for the film, detailed biographies of most of the films stars, extensive production notes, original press notes, a photo still gallery, essays by film critic George Reis and, a bit by Vincent Price and his views on horror movies in general, and even a hidden feature accessed by clicking on the doctor's stomach in the special features menu. All in all, this is a great little horror anthology infused with a good dose of silly humor, one that fans of the long gone but not forgotten Amicus films will enjoy. But be warned, as the real horror doesn't come until the end, when Vincent Price and John Carradine proceed to get 'jiggy' with it on the dance floor.

The plot revolves around the forced political marriage between prince & empress of 2 tribes, but the bulk of the story is suspense, intrigue, and deception through politics, religious followings, and personal greed. Good rivals evil. Priests of the good god Ouala and the bad god Teshcata each have their political followers and enemies. Who will survive? The struggle lasts through 12 episodes, each about 25 minutes.
This 2-DVD complete series set seems reminiscent of Disney TV archival re-releases from the same and earlier time periods. They must be reviewed as that, not a comparison with today's high-tech film events like Avatar. 1970s alter-human character shows like Battlestar Galatica, Wonder Woman, & The Incredible Hulk for instance followed the sixties Mission Impossible, Star Trek, and Lost in Space. The Feathered Serpent TV show went backward, historically, not forward into time. Now it is revived after 3 ½ decades. Elaborate costumes seem to have been heavily influenced by Anasazi Kachinas. That also happened in Star Wars. Other influences from Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Aztec, and Native American cultures.
All episodes have SUBTITLES available. Series 1 originally aired in 1976, series 2 in 1978.
1-1 Emperor Kukulkhan wants peace the The Feathered Serpent god Ouala. High Priest Nasca wants human sacrifice and its god Teshcata. A servant lad, Tozo, brings a token to Empress Chimalma, forced fiancée to Prince Huemac.
1-2 The secret passages become known to blind priest Otolmi and Tozo, whom he saved. Heumac is well received causing Mahaoutec jealousy.
1-3 Kukulkhan must spend a night in the Teshcata temple. Toxo explores the secret passages. Gen. Mahoutec challenges Heumac to a duel. Nasca manipulates much evil.
1-4 The empress intends to honor Kukulhan's wish & marry Heumac. He finds a map piece. Nasca continues his evil schemes even at a heart-letting funeral.
1-5 A poisoned Empress, an imprisoned Heumac, & an attack upon the Tula army. Tozo to the rescue with mad accusations spewed by Nasca.
1-6 A rescue from the chamber of Screams. Will the Pyramid of the Sun see a human sacrifice? Nasca seems to produce a sign from his god Teshcata.
2-1 God Quala reinstated and evil is vanquished? Heumac must prove worthy to marry the Empress via the Stone Cage.
2-2 Keelag has performed a miracle and a plague of misery is planned for the city. Inside the Stone Cage a life or death struggle continues.
2-3 Keelag teaches her resurrected student some mind control. The royal wedding nears but where are the required crowns of Chichen Itza? Again, will Tozo save the day?
2-4 the royal couple is hypnotized and the city wells are poisoned with madness. Tozo is tortured in his search for the sacred mirror.
2-5 Tozo needs rescued from Xipec. It is Heumac that makes the attempt, while Chimalma is further deceived by Nasca.
2-6 The final confrontation between good and evil. To one god goes the spoils.
This is fictional drama but based loosely on the Nazca people of Peru. The Mayan god, Kukulcan, was real, and The Feathered Serpent a religious cult. Some connection can also be found in characters with the Mesoamerican cultures of the Toltecs (Central Mexico) and Aztecs. The later defeated the former yet considered them predecessors and claimed the Toltec gods and spiritual rites. One god was Quetzalcoatl (Quala?) or The Feathered Serpent. Tezcatlipoca used black magic to drive Quetzalcoatl to the ocean & human sacrifice began. Cortes arrived in 1519, mistook as a god, and was helped by Aztec Emperor Montezuma II to conquer Central American lands.
More historical background for this series is on disc 2. Look at that prior to viewing the 12 episode complete series. It adds credibility to the story fictional portrayal.

Focusing on the two mains characters of the film, than on elaborate and expensive effects, Gareth Edwards has produced a remarkable tale of two American's trapped beyond the Infected Zone, following an outbreak of extra-terrestrial spores, in Mexico, trying to return to the United States. The limited effects are first rate, and, unlike many Hollywood films, exist to support the storyline, not replace it.

Frankenstein (2004) Review

(More customer reviews)The first thing you need to know about this particular "Frankenstein" is that it the pilot for an aborted USA Network series based on concepts and characters by Dean Koontz. However, Koontz and USA apparently came to a parting of the waysd with two significant results: Koontz's name disappeared from the USA project and the author wrote a series of novels with Kevin J. Anderson, the first of which, "Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, Book One: Prodigal Son," appears to cover a lot of the same ground (but I have not read it and therefore can not speak to specific differences). This may well be enough information to forestall Koontz's fans from watching this pilot movie and proceeding directly to the novels. But I like pilots and tend to watch as many as I can because I find them intrinsically interesting.
The premise of this "Frankenstein" is basically that Mary Shelley got most of the story right and changed some names. In the novel Frankenstein brings his creation to life and then abandons him, with the latter being his greater sin for which he and his family must pay. In this pilot the doctor is now named Victor Helios (Thomas Krestchmann), the filthy rich owner of a biotech company in New Orleans. Helios has found ways of keeping himself alive for several centuries and has been continuing his experiments with an eye towards replacing flawed humanity with his master race spawned in his company's vats. Helios even gets to program his creations as he desires and has just come up with a new version of his wife, Erika (Ivana Milicevic). A good question here is whether "Frankenstein" still applied to the doctor, as in the novel, or to his creation, as in pop culture, but it does not matter because both are here.
The first creation is now called Deucalion (Vincent Perez), and while the name comes from classical mythology it is not, as you might suspect, one associated with Prometheus. As you will recall, Prometheus created the first humans in Greek mythology and the subtitle of Shelley's novel was "The Modern Prometheus." Decaulion, on the other hand, is the Greek counterpart to Noah, who survives the great flood with his wife Pyrrha and repopulates the world. However, to the extent that he is the first human to have a name in mythology, Decaulion has that in common with Adam as well. Since Helios (the name of the god of the sun, son of Hyperion) is the villain, that allows Decaulion to be the heroic figure. This is necessary because there are a whole bunch of Helios creations running around and one of them appears to be a serial killer.
Working on the case are Detective Carson O'Conner (Parker Posey) and her partner Detective Michael Sloane (Adam Goldberg), and once Carson and Decaulion start running into each other on a regular basis you are going to have to make a point of reminding yourself this is "Frankenstein" and not "Beauty and the Beast" (the Vincent and Catharine one on television and not the Disney musical one that was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar). This is key because that gives you a better sense of the dynamic of this would-be series than having watched all of the Universal films regarding Frankenstein. Also involved in the case and its developments is Detective Harker, and since he is played by Michael Madsen you know this is not a good sign. There is more to the serial killer than meets the eyes, and we find out some interesting things about these creations that would have implications for the series that this pilot never got off the ground.
As much as I like Posey as an actress with strong Independent credibility and Goldberg as comic relief in just about everything he does, they really seem too young to be detectives. I also have some questions as to how Helios can create enough of his creatures to keep up with the birth rate in New Orleans let along the state of Louisiana, the former states of the Confederacy, the United States, North American, the Western Hemisphere and eventually the entire world, because I tried doing the math and I do not see it working out that way. The script by John Shiban, who worked as both a writer and a producer on "The X-Files," certainly sets up sufficient premises for an on-going series, but I do not know if it is a good thing when I find myself more interested in the relationship between Helios and Erika than the one between Decaulion and Catherine, er, I mean Carson.
The reason I ended up rounding up on this one in the end is because I liked the look of the film, not just in terms of Leslie Keel's art direction, but also the efforts of director Marcus Nispel. His updated version of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" creeped me out, which is a pretty good accomplishment given more of the jetsam and flotsam out there in the world of contemporary horror films. Take into account that he is doing this for television (albeit cable) and not a theatrical film and the results are pretty impressive. There is a great look to the film and Nispel is again working with cinematographer Daniel Pearl to come up with some interesting shots, so if you do not think that style over substance is an inherently bad thing that would be another reason to give this "Frankenstein" a try (and if you really want the substance the Koontz-Anderson novels are out there waiting for you).

(More customer reviews)I really enjoyed "Night of the Demon" with Dana Andrews so I felt enthusiastic about seeing another version.This was so bad. The leading female performer had Soap Opera instead of movie star quality. The changes that were made to the plot didn`t work. And at the end of the movie what should have been a grand finale between Karswell and the creature, was only spoken of. Not shown what had happened. This movie seemed like an insult to the classic story Casting the Runes. It`s a lesson for me to rent a movie first to see if it`s worth buying.

Thriller: The Complete Series (1962) Review

(More customer reviews)I am THRILLED that THRILLER is being released on August 31, 2010 this summer! Image Entertainment has put the entire series, which is two seasons, on 14 discs in this dvd set. All 67 one hour long chilling and some really frightening episodes will be seen in the original fantastic black and white film in all it's scary shadows and creepiness.
Thriller was originally shown on Tuesday nights in it's first 1960-1961 season on NBC from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m.. Because of parents complaints that the show was too scary for school age children, making them unable to sleep on a school night, NBC moved the show in it's second 1961 to 1962 season to Monday nights at a later time from 10:00 to 11:00 p.m.. The show began with it's host, the great Boris Karloff preparing it's audience for the great horrors and terrors that you were about to see and hear. Boris Karloff not only hosted the one hour long show, but starred in several episodes as well, adding his wonderfully brilliant performances to these extremely well written horror stories. The black and white film is perfect for the super eerie atmosphere of the scary stories and it really does add to the visual terror.
Stephen King calls Thriller the best horror series ever put on television. I call Thriller the only television series that gave me horrendous and terrifying, unable to sleep, nightmares as a child and I don't mean a few of the shows, but most of them! Most of the episodes feature the most disturbing stories of the macabre, twisted murders, terror and a few crime based episodes. The crime based episodes, though very excellent, full of twists and suspense, are not my favorites, as they are not as scary as the supernatural and macabre ones.
Image Entertainment said they have digitally restored the original black and white film and used Dolby digital sound on the recording. I remember getting goose bumps hearing the creepiest sounds and screams in some of the episodes, as if the film wasn't creepy enough with things hiding in every shadow and close ups of glaring dead eyes! In it's first season, Thriller was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement In The Field Of Music For Television. It wasn't just the sounds and screams that were terrifying, but also the music! The next season, American Cinema Editors nominated Thriller for Best Edited Television Program, for the episode, A Third For Pinochle.

I am so looking forward to getting goose bumps and being terrified all over again with those dreaded nightmares that kept me and all my school friends awake all night and hiding deep under our covers, so afraid of the dark! This being my second time around to see these terrifying Thrillers, I have learned to never watch the supernatural or macabre episodes alone. If I have no choice and have to watch them alone, I will make sure to keep a light on, and most importantly, I'll make sure that there are no reflecting windows, glass or mirrors visible when watching THE HUNGRY GLASS! Even after 50 years, I can still remember the terrified photographer and his wife when they decided to ignore everyone telling them not to move into the haunted seaside house, but moved in anyway to live with the terrors reflected within!

Biography -- Biography Stephen King: Fear, Fame and F Review

(More customer reviews)I've watched this biography many times because it's so inspirational. I love seeing his journey from poverty to an incredible amount of wealth and fame. It's incredible, too, the number of books he's written that have been turned into movies. How many authors can say the same? And yet, he appears to have remained humble throughout, which makes him even more admirable.
What's fascinating to watch is where he got his inspiration for some of his books. When you watch his life story unfold, it's easy to see where he got his inspiration from even before the narrator tells you.
For example, you're told he lived on a busy street where his son almost got hit by a car. Pet Sematary. He stayed in an abandoned hotel and almost went stir crazy. The Shining. A crazed fan once visited his wife when he wasn't home. Misery.
Because I love to write fiction, I'm always on the lookout for inspiration, so it's fascinating to know where other writers got their inspiration, too.

Big Mountain Extreme Ski Movies: Respect and The Waiting Game (Home Use) Review

(More customer reviews)If you have ever fantasized about quitting your day job and making downhill skiing the main priority of your life, you can get a taste of that fantasy by watching this ski movie. Filled with beautiful scenery, extreme skiing, skier profiles, and a fitting soundtrack, The Waiting Game will have you feeling the anticipation for ski time.
The movie opens itself up with several skiiers sitting around a campfire telling about a ski fantasy or goal that they are waiting to have or had to wait for to happen. This theme of anticipation stories ties each scene of the film together. There are more skiiers in this film than should be listed in an article, with each one having their own action scene in a beautiful and famed ski location.
The film takes the viewer to several Utah locations, Haines and Valdez Alaska, and Jackson, Wyoming. Shots from the road travel are included, giving a sense of what the travel time must be like. The filmmakers also include some of each ski towns' scenic backdrop other than it's ski slopes. For example, the port of Valdez is shown before the Alaska ski scenes.
The soundtrack adds to the mood of each ski scene. Without music, an adrenaline rush trip down a slope would look like peaceful lines being drawn on a nice snowy background of your tv. The soundtrack of this film effectively helps the viewer to step into the mindset of the skier on screen.
Narration of the thoughts and reflections of these different people who have dedicated their lives to skiing peppers throughout the movie. Interview footage of Bill Briggs, the legendary Jackson Hole skiier who was the first to ski the Grand Tetons in 1971, shows that for those who make this lifestyle choice, it will be a choice without regret.
Briggs also plays his banjo and sings about skiing in the opening campfire scene. This turns into one of the films drawbacks. Skiiers are telling about what they are or have waited for at the same time, so you can't really understand Briggs or the skiiers.
The Waiting Game comes with a second disc of special features, including a music video of Briggs song. The video doesn't have the skiiers talking, so at least you get the opportunity to hear just the song. There is also an action only version of the film. My favorite on the second disc was the history of heliskiing in Alaska's Chugach mountains. A few product and company promos are included on the second disc. Overall the second disc really does add to the set - it isn't just a few things thrown together to make a set without adding anything worthy of viewing.
I am giving this film a four out of five. I am glad I took the time to check it out from my local library and watch it.

Scary Godmother Halloween Spooktakular (2003) Review

(More customer reviews)Since Halloween is my fovorite Holiday, I could not resist buying this DVD for me, and my kids. I had not previously seen this made-for-TV special, but found it for such a reasonable price, I took the plunge. In hindsight, a good move. Here is a list of my thoughts as they spill from my gooey BRAIN!!...
-Why 4 stars? The CGI is a little crude (when compared to other TV CGI productions). I'm being a little picky, but I found it a distraction to see ocassional surfaces protrude through things unintentionally (Head through hare) and unatural motion for human characters (a bit "floaty").
-The story is near perfect. It captures the Halloween spirit we all remember as kids. All FUN with a hint of SCARE!!
-Some references will become dated with time (I'm a rich baseball player in an SUV") but overall, it's not too trendy.
-I got a little tired of the "Wolfman being hungry" gag. The vampire family, on the other hand, epitomize funny scares.
-This DVD is extras free. A bit dissapointing but not a show stopper.
-Color is spectacular. All the greens, oranges, blacks, reds and purples you wish Halloween shows would display.
-Dispite the nit-picking, I really fell in love with this as a holiday regular. It will be a tradition in our house.
-Some of the dialogue was ill timed and poorly paced, but the voices were spot-on. Truly appealing characters all around.
-Definitely a few lessons for kids to learn from this adventure. "Consequences" certainly a key point. Also "judging a book by it's cover", "don't believe everything you're told" and being responsible, are hammered home while enhancing the story. No small accomplishment.
-The soundtrack is "Shock-n-roll" alla "The Munsters Theme". Actually pretty cool!
In a nutshell, other than a few technical "gliches" and some timing flaws (at least I thought so), you can't go wrong with this Halloween "Spook-tacular", especially if you have pre-teens, though I really enjoyed it myself.

Arachnophobia (1990) Review

(More customer reviews)"Arachnophobia" is a clever comedy/thriller sure to scare the spider-phobes out there. Jeff Daniels and Harley Jane Kozak star as Dr. Ross and Molly Jennings, a young couple who have moved to the country to start his medical practice. Little do they know that a huge, deadly spider has arrived from South America and is reproducing - a lot! One by one, town residents start dropping like flies, until Ross figures out they were all bitten by spiders. This brings back memories of a childhood trauma that left him with a paralyzing fear of spiders - and the spider's nest is right in Ross' barn.
There are many creepy scenes of menacing spiders that will have you looking around to make sure none are near you. They must have used some robotic spiders, but they all looked very real to me. The idyllic rural setting contrasts nicely with the intensely scary stalking spiders. Daniels is perfect as the dedicated doctor, and John Goodman has a small but funny part as an exterminator. The movie may be too scary for very young children, but others will giggle a little and gasp a lot.

I actually had the opportunity of meeting David Heavener and asking him about the movie. This was before I had seen the movie, though. He told me that the movie was intentionally made cheesy to give it that B-movie feel. And this wasn't his first film but it was the first film he entirely financed by himself. So, that somewhat explains why it was so low-quality.
In closing:
This movie had a loose plot and poor dialogue. But from what I've heard from David Heavener, it was made to be a really "bad" Sci-Fi movie. It takes a lot of stereotypes & cliches commonly found in most Sci-Fi/Fantasy movies. Not to mention, that he payed for this entire movie out-of-pocket. To my knowledge, and I could be wrong, this was also the first "christian" movie he had ever produced/directed & acted in. As for the music video, I agree that it could've been done a lot better. But Heavener does have a good voice and for the style of music he plays (ie. INSP rock) it's fairly decent.
Overall, it's fun(ny) to watch but I unless you're a hardcore fan of ultralow-budget ridiculously corny Sci-Fi films, like I am, I would only rent this movie.
Trivia:
The scene where John141(Heavener) stumbles upon what appears to be a church BBQ was actually the first shot scene of the movie. And it was completely improvised. He bought the costume at a costume store & none of the people that he interacts with in this scene are actors.

Let Me In (2010) Review

(More customer reviews)Let Me In is one of the most beautiful films of the year, and probably the best remake that I have ever seen. It is based on the Swedish film, Let The Right One In, which was released two years ago to monumental acclaim from both critics and art-house audiences alike. This touching story, concerning a young man's crush on a 12 year old vampire named Eli, captured the hearts and minds of everyone who was lucky enough to see it. If Ingmar Bergman were to direct a vampire-themed film, it would look a lot like this. However, one should not think of the film as yet another entry into the recent "vampire" craze. It is much more than that. This is the film that Twilight only wishes that it could be.
The remake deviates structurally from the original, only in that the opening is a bit different, and a few minor characters have been altered or dropped altogether. The integrity of the storytelling remains intact, and as a result, much of the remake resembles the original in all of its snow-drenched glory.
Kodi Smit-McPhee plays Owen, a lonely young man who is constantly bullied at school in the most brutal fashion. He spends his evenings at home playing with knives, and spying on the attractive neighbor next door. In addition to these disturbing quirks, he has an almost addictive fondness for Now and Laters, and constantly eats the candy throughout the film. Chloe Moretz plays Abby, a young girl who moves in next door with a man that we initially assume is her father. The two meet on the playground one night, and bond over the intricacies of a Rubick's Cube. Soon, Owen develops a crush on his new friend, oblivious that Abby is really a vampire, and that her "dad" is in fact a serial killer, who creeps out into the night, stalking and killing random victims in order to bring buckets of blood back to Abby, in order that she will survive.
Meanwhile, an older cop tries to figure out who the mysterious killer is, as the bodies continue to surface. As far as Owen is concerned, the bullying still continues at school, but with a little advice from Abby, and a little bit of weight training, Owen realizes that he can stand up for himself in one of the film's most shocking - and darkly comic - sequences. It doesn't take long for Owen to realize who and what Abby really is. In all of his fright and confusion, he decides to stay by her side, and as a result, Abby vows to protect Owen in the only way that she knows how.
As I said, this is one of the best films of the year. Both of the leads deserve Oscar nominations for their layered performances. The cinematography is breathtaking. The score is beautiful, although there are moments in the film that could do without a background score. This is my only criticism of this otherwise perfect film. Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) has crafted a worthy tribute with Let Me In.
It is worth mentioning that this film is rated R, and while the film centers on two adolescents, it is not a film for the 12 and under crowd. It is much too disturbing at times, and the language is pretty rough. I would also encourage Twilighters to see the film, so that they may have a clear example of a film (Let Me In) and a product (Twilight).

Two of the best pieces in my eyes are LIONTOWN, written and directed by Aaron Crozier (Director and writer of GRUMBOON), and starring Matt Sinnople (Actor in the up and coming DEADWOOD PARK and THE MATT SINNOPLE SHOW), and VICTIM, written and directed by Jason Christ (Director and writer for the up and coming SAVAGE HARVEST II and actor in DEADWOOD PARK).
