(More customer reviews)It sounds like either the other reviewer needs to check the color settings on his TV or his copy is a dud. My copy looks and plays just fine. There is only one downfall to this DVD, though: If you have copies of the Popeye DVDs from Goodtimes, I wouldn't give this DVD of Popeye too much thought, for a third of the cartoons are from VHS copies of them. Here are the cartoons from Goodtimes that are on here:
A Haul In One
Cookin' With Gags
Insect to Injury
Gopher Spinach
Shuteye Popeye
The other Popeye and Van Beuren cartoons have not been touched (no new sound effects). The audio on the title cartoon drags, so if you want a good copy of "Popeye Meets Ali Baba's Forty Theives", I suggest trying to find the blue and green-labeled two-hour Popeye DVD from Genius Products (has drawing of Popeye's head on the front); the copy on there is a well-restored, original Paramount Pictures copy (no A.A.P card in sight).
Overall, this DVD of Popeye is not too bad. But what can you expect for a DVD that is only $1?! I have a small collection of Cartoon Craze DVDs that are of excellent quality; half of the cartoons don't even look like they came from VHS copies. Other than the Goodtimes copies of Popeye, I suggest getting this cheap disc and keeping it until you can find better.
