(More customer reviews)This recently-produced video titled "Understanding Mental Illness" contains information and classifications of mental illness that pre-date the DSM-III. One of the most glaring examples is its description/classification of schizophrenia as a "Personality Disorder." What's worse, really bad actors bulge their eyes and display stereotypical (and often violent or menacing) behaviors during poorly-produced vignettes. For example, a woman trembles with "fear" as a rubber spider is pulled across a blanket as she lies in bed. I've seen more realistic scenes (and better actors) in 1950s era 3-D movies! This video/DVD is far worse than any of the old 16mm health education films that I suffered through as a high school student. I would have rated this video/DVD as a "Zero-Star" if it was an available option.

Understanding Personality Disorders DVD Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this to use with Introductory Psychology classes. The film only covers a few of the disorders, and it uses teens as actors. They act out some of the more pronounced behaviors of the few disorders considered. This is ironic, since personality disorders cannot be diagnosed in individuals until they are older than 18.

Diagnosing Depression (Home Use) Review

The DVD players work fine at showing other videos but this particular one doesn't play. So as far as the video about depression goes i havn't seen it to know whether or not it is any good.

Living with Bipolar Disorder Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this DVD for my boyfriend, because he's not a big reader. He viewed it at least 4 times, and was able to remember key points, which helped him understand my bipolar disorder better. We're getting along much better as a couple, now that he realizes I'm not intentionally trying to hurt him when I have an 'episode'. I recommend this DVD for family members and loved ones to view.

(More customer reviews)My son fell into this mental Illness suddenly. It helped us, his family, while he was in the hospital after his first psychotic break. It also helped him to accept he was indeed Schizophrenic and had to be faithful about taking his medications to prevent going back into the hospital.
