Years ago, during a 1975 bicentennial ceremony, Les Aspin - who was later to become President Clinton's secretary of defense - signed a Declaration of Inter-dependence calling for a new world order. In it he mocked the Declaration of Independence by saying, "Two centuries ago, our forefathers brought forth a new nation; now we must join with others to bring forth a new world order."This so-called Declaration of Inter-dependence called on the nations of the world to strengthen the United Nations and broaden the jurisdiction of its agencies, courts and military operations.Today, more than 26 years later, Aspin is getting his wish. The U.N. is positionsed as the supreme global power of the new millennium. This video shows that today's U.N. is on a mission to create a new world order, a global government in which national boundaries are blurred, national sovereignty is eradicated, and individual rights are subordinated to the U.N.'s agenda.

Metalocalypse: Season 3 Review

Metalocalypse: Season 3
Average Reviews:

Metalocalypse is one of the funniest shows around. A smart and extremely funny satire of the music bussines. This season the episodes are longer (20 min) which makes them more interesting, and consequently even better. Toki, Nathan, Swisgaard and Pickles are great, but the show has only one real star. If there is any justice, William Murderface will go down as one of this centuries' greatest comic creations.

Animaniacs: Wakko's Wish (1999) Review

Animaniacs: Wakko's Wish (1999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Through the application of liberal amounts of cash and anability to place last-second bids on eBay, I've managed to lay handson an advance copy of Wakko's Wish. I'm glad I did. It's a worthyfinale to the Animaniacs franchise.
I won't get into the plot. Daniel Gallo did so on Usenet a few months ago, and did a thorough job of it. Suffice it to say that the plot is a good framework to build the movie on. For those who were wondering if Animaniacs could support 80 minutes worth of story, this will answer the question with a loud YES!. The different characters have different places in the story, but they're woven together smoothly and well; there's no sense of jumping back and forth between storylines. The ending is logical and fits well.
Wakko's Wish spends a lot of time paying homage to the series itself. I believe that most of the CRGA entry for the movie will be references to Animaniacs episodes, rather than the rest of the world. There's a fair amount of that as well, though. Those who appreciate potshots at real- world happenings won't be disappointed. You'll find plenty of humor here, whether you're 10 or 40. I suspect that, had this gotten theatrical release, it would have been a case of kids dragging their parents to see it, with the parents coming out afterwards laughing more than the kids.
There's plenty of original music here. At first, I thought it was all going to be musical, but right about the time the story picked up, the prevalence of songs as opposed to spoken dialogue changed. That made for a good change in feel, and worked well. The music, as well as the story, allowed Jess Harnell's singing talents to take center stage, and he shows just why he's doing well as a professional singer (though in places where he's not immediately known). Just about everyone gets a chance to show off their musical talents; those who think that Pinky can't sing get a dramatic rebuttal, and even Sherri Stoner and Ben Stein take a whack at it, with humorously bad results. I don't know if Sherri can sing, but Slappy sure can't.
TMS's animation is at the top of the heap. Their Warners are generally recognized as the standard to which everyone else aspires, and, if anything, they've raised the bar here. Not once did I catch an error in modeling or in continuity. There are several scenes with very fast action, all handled quite well, and more than a few difficult pans. There's also a fair amount of CGI, though it's so well done and so unobtrusive that you'll have a hard time picking it out. This is the first cartoon I've seen that combined cel animation and CGI in a manner that wasn't jarringly dissonant.
About the only negative I can bring up is the final bit. The writers resisted the tendency to over-senitimentalize right until the very end, but there they succumb to temptation and deliver a message with a heavy hand. Animaniacs can and does do better than that. Even so, it's not objectionable enough to make you want to throw the tape in the trash after seeing it; the rest of the movie is way too good for that.
The credits had a pleasant surprise; every major and nearly all minor speaking roles are credited to the voice actors who performed them, and the rule the TV series follows about only crediting a voice actor once even if they play multiple characters is not followed here. The viewer is shown exactly who voiced everyone. There's also a disappointment: no gag credit. I don't know why not, but I expected to see one and didn't.
Overall, Wakko's Wish is a winner. It's well worth ordering and waiting with bated breath for it to hit your doorstep on December 21. Animaniacs fans, and anyone who enjoys a good comedy, will love it. Tom Ruegger and his team have done a great job.
Thanks, guys. If it had to end, this is the best way I can think of doing it.

The New York Yankees Fall Classic Collector's Edition 1996-2001 (2005) Review

The New York Yankees Fall Classic Collector's Edition 1996-2001 (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Make some room on your DVD shelf next to your Yankeeographys because MLB Productions have a hit on their hands. They answered the 2004 Boston Red Sox box set with a Yankee compilation that was second to none.
While the Red Sox set included only the 2004 World Series the Yankees collection includes some of the greatest World Series Games of the Joe Torre Era. The Red Sox set is guaranteed to last 86 years so it should keep the Sox fans happy for a long time. This set includes five complete World Series Games, all of which are Yankee victories of course. And if that wasn't enough, in addition to the complete games there are two bonus disks.
As exciting as the complete games are, unfortunately it doesn't include John Sterling and Michael Kay like the YES Network Yankee Classics do. It does include the original national broadcasts, which has commentators that feature Bob Costas, Joe Buck, Tim McCarver and Joe Morgan. The picture couldn't be sharper and it does seem to be a full featured DVD as opposed to some past releases.
The full games included 1996 Game 4 which features Jimmy Leyritz leading the Yanks back from a 6-0 deficit to a 8-6 extra inning triumph that tied the series at 2 all. The next game is another come from behind victory. The third game of the 1998 series features the Bombers beating San Diego ace reliever Trevor Hoffman.
The third complete game is another game three, this one again against the Braves that features a walk off homer by Chad Curtis. Mariano Rivera took a win this time around instead of his usual save. The forth complete game DVD is a Game 5 series ender against the Mets in 2000, the first Subway Series since 1956. The Yankees won it in the top of the ninth on a single by super sub Louie Sojo. Mike Stanton got the win in relief of Andy Pettitte. The loss went to former Yankee farmhand Al Leiter.
The final complete game while a Yankee victory is unusual in the fact that the Yankees lost this series to the Arizona Diamondbacks. What made this game unique was that this was the 911-year and due to the suspension of baseball that year at midnight of that game it became November. It was the first baseball game played in November. And Derek Jeter homered in the bottom of the tenth thus becoming the first "Mr. November".
The two Bonus DVDs are worth the price of admission on their own. They include all the MLB World Series videos plus a plethora of bonus footage that includes Roger "Rocket" Clemens 2000 ALSC game 4 masterpiece. Other inclusions are highlights from Gooden's No Hitter, David Cone's and David Well's Perfect Games, Jeter's ALDS series saving flip, and many other highlights by names like David Justice, Jim Leyritz, and Paul O'Neill. There is abundance of behind the scenes footage that includes locker room, interviews and press conferences and much, much more.
The packaging is a Trivia Buffs delight as it is full of boxscores, highlights and facts. It will jar your memory reading the cases alone.
These disks are a must have for Yankee fans. As soon as I posted the banners I saw many of you pre order these fine DVDs. So what are the rest of you waiting for?

The five quintessential games that defined the beginning of a new era. Pinstripe Pride returns with this extraordinary collection of the Bronx Bombers greatest World Series games from one of the greatest chapters in Yankee history. Under the leadership of manager Joe Torre, Yankee baseball set a new standard of dominance across the Major Leagues. Relive the most amazing Yankee moments--Jim Leyritz blasting a clutch round-tripper off Braves closer Mark Wohlers, Scott Brosius becoming the 8th player in history to hit World Series home runs in back-to-back innings, Tino Martinez pushing Game 4 of the 2001 Fall Classic into extra innings, and Derek Jeter earning his title as "Mr. November" with the game-winning home run. The perfect companion to the ultimate baseball DVD experience are SleeveStats, offering dynamic official stats that provide trivia, game summaries, and player information right on each DVD's cover. Included in this dynamic piece of memorabilia are these complete games: 1996 World Series Game 4 vs. the Atlanta Braves, 1998 World Series Game 3 vs. the San Diego Padres, 1999 World Series Game 3 vs. the Atlanta Braves, 2000 World Series Game 5 vs. the New York Mets, 2001 World Series Game 4 vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks. PLUS two bonus discs featuring: 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000 World Series Films. DVD Features: 2000 ALCS Game 4: Rocket's Masterpiece; 2001 AL Pennant: Torre's Toast; Doc Gooden's No-Hitter Footage; David Wells' Perfect Game Footage; David Cone's Perfect Game Footage; 2001 ALDS: Jeter's Game-Saving Flip; 1996 ALDS Game 2: Palmer's E Provides Win; 2000 ALCS Games 6: Justice Rocks Rhodes; Pitch-by-Pitch: Leyritz vs. Wohlers; 1996 World Series: Last At-Bat; 2000 World Series Clubhouse Celebration; 1998 World Series MVP Trophy Presentation; 1999 World Series Trophy Presentation; Looking Back: O'Neill Reflects on Last Game.

Astro Boy - The Complete Series (2004)
Average Reviews:

PLEASE, stop complaining that this isn't the original Astro Boy series. This has to be the most absurd basis for a review I've ever read. It's like yelling at a waiter for bringing you EXACTLY WHAT YOU ORDERED even though in your mind you really wanted something else. It's insane. You're not even reviewing the DVD set that this section is reserved for. You're just mad because you weren't paying attention. It's not like Amazon fooled you. If you had bothered to read the DVD specs in the first place, you would have realized that this set is from the 2003 TV series (which is beautiful and true to the "original" 1963-66 Japanese series). So, open your eyes next time. Don't bash it before you've seen it.
Any "true" Astro Boy fan will be happy to own this collection.

The Batman vs Dracula (2005) Review

The Batman vs Dracula (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As far as animated Batman series go I much prefer the series that ran during the '90's on the WB rather than the current incarnation. In fact I've only seen a mere handful of the new series and just wasn't inspired enough to tune in for more. Well, if this direct to DVD movie is anything to go by I may have to change that attitude.
I had no intention of buying this DVD (no really, I swear I didn't) but something made me take a chance on it while I was picking up the other Batman DVD releases on that fateful Tuesday afternoon. Frankly I'm glad I did because "Batman vs Dracula" is really a dang good animated Batman adventure and a fine Halloween treat to boot. Now I won't claim it to be perfect (because it isn't) but it is a more than decent direct to DVD release.
The story involves Joker and Penguin escaping from Arkham Asylum in search of a treasure hidden within the depths of Gotham Cemetary. The Joker/Penguin alliance falls apart and it is the Penguin who stmbles not upon the treasure but the remains of Count Dracula himself. In true Hammer film style Penguin accidently resurrects Dracula, becomes his thrall and the two begin to unleash a reign of terror upon Gotham City as the Count begins to transform its citizens into vampires. The creation of these "Lost Ones" is blamed on the Dark Knight and he begins to realize he has more on his hands than the average maniacal super villain he usually has to contend with. The irony of two individuals who use a bat as their avatar to achieve their ends is not lost upon Dracula (or the writers) and he soon sets out to destroy the Cowled One. I won't go into any more of the plot, you get the general idea. However I should point out that the writers have included a few more story threads and plot twists than what I've revealed here and thats what makes this film both enjoyable and a bit frustrating. On the one hand there is more substance to the story than I would have expected for what is generally considered "kiddie fare" and while there are some good adult oriented story ideas and concepts they aren't always as fully explored as I would have liked. Still, its hard to fault this film too much. I can tell that the film makers were genuinely enthusiastic about the project and that really comes across in the final product more than any flaws and plot holes the film may have.
A word of warning to parents of small children. This film does contain considerable amounts of blood and violence not to mention the sheer creepiness of many of the vampire scenes. If you have little ones who are easily frightened you may want to pass on this particular Batman adventure. When I say that the vampires are creepy I mean just that. There were one or two moments when even this jaded horror movie junkie got a goosebump or two. The sight of a vampire Joker lapping blood up off the floor (while not the creepiest scene in the film) is one I'll not get out of my head for awhile.
As for the DVD itself: the transfer is good and crisp and the sound is presented in Dolby 5.1. No widescreen unfortunately. A few meager extras such as the voice actors hamming it up, a science vs superstition segment, and trailers round out the supplemental features.
Bottom line: this isn't the greatest animated Batman yarn out there but it is a good thrill ride none the less. It offers more substance than many films of its kind and will appeal to adults and older kids alike. I can't reccomend it for sensitive younger viewers but for the older kids and adults who would like a good Batman Halloween treat you can't go wrong with this one.

I bought the documentary..."bought and sold; an investigative documentary about the international trade in women" and thought this was a very good and insightful film.the documentary talks about the evil traffikers of women from around the world lying to the ladies saying they can be rich and have anything their hearts desire only to find out they are prostitutes in a foreign country and often times not even being paid either, which is awful. most of the pay goes to the pimps and the prostitutes live on credit ,which is barely enough to live by and support their families they left behind at home. the documentary talks to the few prostitutes who arent afraid to speak up of this practice about the horrors of the traffiking of women. most ladies are afraid to speak out because the russian mob and other criminal groups control them and speaking out could mean death to them or family members.they even talked to a lady trying to help them but far more needs to be done for these ladies. i think many people still dont know traffiking of women still goes on in modern society and their i think lies the biggest problem. this is a much reccommended documentary of the traffiking of women. i only wish it was longer instead of 42 minutes or so but it's still worth the watch!

Dr. Denmark was my pediatrician. I am 51 now. She was also the pediatrician to my children, and 2 of my grandchildren. She is an amazing woman. At the age of 108 she is healthier than I am and her advice on raising a child is priceless. I can't even put into words how much we love her and rely on her book "Every Child Should Have a Chance". If you can get your hands on that book and you are expecting or have children at all, then BUY THE BOOK also! You will never regret it. I'd also like to express my utmost thanks to the amazing mothers who put this DVD together.

Bullfight: La Fiesta Brava DVD (2004) Review

Bullfight: La Fiesta Brava DVD (2004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you get charged $50 for a hamburger, you expect something
special--something more than a $5 fast-food burger. With this
DVD, for your $90 you get 50 minutes of video, much of which is
about the ancient hstory of bullfighting, scenes of ganaderos
making notes about the quality of calves, etc, and about 10-15
minutes of a corrida meat-and-bones (to continue the hamburger
analogy) with a very skimpy couple of minutes on the final
tercio--the work with the muleta, which nowadays is the heart
of the fight. If you want to learn a little bit about the
bullfight and don't mind spending the $90, then this dvd is OK.
1) If this DVD cost $15, say, I'd give it 4 stars--reasonable
value for the money.
2) For $90, just like a $50 hamburger, you should get something
special: a book on the basics of bullfighting, such as Marvin's
Bullfight or Hemingway's Death in the Afternoon (a bit dated
but still excellent)--both available from Amazon, or Fulton's
Bullfighting (used copies through Amazon), plus about 5 hours
of video. Footage of some of the past figuras, footage of the
different major styles--Ronda, Seville, Tremendismo, etc,
Footage of the cape and muleta passes, showing good and bad
examples. Footage of adornos. Examples of how tremendous
emotion can be generated, and footage of cowardly torear.
Footage of how to distinguish a good bull from a bad one,
footage of what makes a good kill, what makes a bad kill.
Overall--about 2 1/2 hours to show what to look for in a fight.
Then a complete--start-to-finish--decent corrida at a good
ring to see how the previous footage applies. A corrida takes
2-3 hours. Such a package would be a good buy for your $90.
3) Or--buy Marvin or Hemingway, read the book, and then buy
a bullfight DVD of a corrida. There are half a dozen places
in North America you can get such DVDs--including ebay
(e.g. lasaves & dalbo9) and torosfilms.com (mostly Mexican
fights). Most of these DVDs are in Spanish, with some in
French and some documentaries in English: prices run from $7
to $20 for a 2-3 hour corrida on DVD. If you don't know
Spanish but have read one of the books, you'll still enjoy the
DVDs--the excitement of the crowd and the TV commentators will
come through very well. Look for the corrida at the Plaza
Mexico Feb. 5th, 2005--that's one of the best in the last 10
years, or look for a corrida wil El Fandi--he usually puts on
a very dramatic show. The DVD sellers on ebay, etc, will
list the bulls and matadors and usually the trophies awarded--
"dos orejas y rabo" is "2 ears and the tail" indicating a very
good fight.

Marijuana Abuse: Blunt Facts DVD Review

Marijuana Abuse: Blunt Facts DVD

And only 24 minutes at that. The people who produced this film must have been high.
There is little difference between the wild assertions made in this video and other classic anti-marijuana films like "Reefer Madness."
Like this -- "once they've started abusing this drug, individuals begin a downward spiral." That paints all marijuana users with a very broad brush, to say the least.
To be sure, this film is "blunt" but there are few actual facts presented and a lot of anecdotal "evidence" to support the claims made. Children should not use marijuana or any other illegal drugs, but when you grossly overstate the dangers of illegal drugs, you undermine the goal of dissuading people from using them.

The Verdict (1982) Review

The Verdict (1982)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
During the first 25 years of his career, Paul Newman played characters who were confident and self-assured. Being a great actor, Newman was always able to infuse his characters with frailties and vulnerabilities that made them well-rounded and three dimensional. From Rocky Graziano to Cool Hand Luke to Doug Roberts (The Towering Inferno), Newman played self-confident characters who were strong and took charge of a situation. Perhaps this lack of frailty is the reason why Newman was able to play much younger characters well into his 50's (in 1981's Absence of Malice, the audience fully accepted that the then 56 year old Newman could be romantically involved with the then 35 year old Sally Field).
In The Verdict, however, Newman is almost shocking in his hesitancy and self doubt. As attorney Frank Galvin, life has beaten him down so much, he seems like a man far older than his years who is afraid to do anything for fear that tragedy and bad luck will once again crush him. For the first time, Newman seems more like a victim than a survivor -- stammering, hesitant, weak, alcoholic and defeated. Even his courtroom summation at the end of the film is halting and hesitant. In a film full of fine actors (James Mason, Charlotte Rampling, Jack Warden, Milo O'Shea, Lindsay Crouse, etc.), Newman still manages to give the best performance. It's an unbelievably great performance and a great companion piece to The Hustler -- "Fast Eddie" Felson after life has chewed him up and spit him out.
Unfortunately, Paul Newman, once again, did not win the Oscar for Best Actor -- Ben Kingsley won for Ghandi. Unlike with The Hustler, however, Newman wasn't really robbed, but was actually the victim of bad luck. Kingsley was born to play Ghandi and gave the performance of his life. In most other years, Newman probably would have run away with the Oscar. In 1982, however, he had the bad luck to be up against an actor who literally became one of the most revered and admired men in history. While no one can say that Kingsley didn't deserve the honor, it is still a shame that Paul Newman did not win an Oscar for his flawed, weak and defeated Frank Galvin.

The show first telecasted on 9/17/1992 until its last telecast on 4/4/1997 for a total of 5 seasons and 110 episodes.
The cast for this show are:
* Reno Raines/Vince Black ..... Lorenzo Lamas
* Bobby Sixkiller ..... Branscombe Richmond
* Cheyenne Phillips (1992-1996) ..... Kathleen Kinmont
* Lt./Marshal Donald"Dutch"Dixon ..... Stephen J. Cannell
* Sgt.Frank"Woody"Bickford ..... Ron Johnson (Occasional)

In the fall of 1994 (Season 3), Dutch Dixon caught up with Reno, who then went on trail for the murder Dixon had originally pinned on him at the start of the series (Dutch Dixon is the corrupt cop hunting Reno down. It was he who had murdered the cop Reno had been framed for killing, and he had also been responsible for the fatal shooting of Reno's fiancee.)
Sleazy Hound Adams was set to testify with evidence that would have exonerated Reno and pinned the crime on Dixon, but Adams doubled-crossed our hero and Reno was convicted of murder with special circumstances. While being transferred from one prison to another Reno escaped and resumed bounty hunting for Bobby and his search for Adams or other evidence to prove his innocence.

Powerpuff Girls Power Pack (The Mane Event/Down 'n' Dirty/Powerpuff Bluff) (1998) Review

...The Powerpuff Girls is not another standard animated superhero TV series with cute moppets. First, the writers of the Powerpuff Girls ensure that the stories are written well and respect the viewer's intelligence instead of pandering to morons (a common mistake found in most animated TV series). Second, the better stories on this TV series show some common situations that a kid can relate to and how to resolve them without being too preachy. Third, there are lots of warped humor, hip contemporary references, sight gags, bad jokes, and hidden puns (e.g., Ms. Bellum's home address in "Something's a Ms."or each Powerpuff Girl using an eyebeam near the end of "The Main Event") found throughout these episodes. For these reasons, both children and adults will find this TV series fun to watch.
To honor the release of the Powerpuff Girls Movie, this review looks at the Powerpuff Girls Power Pack, the DVD boxed set that collects the first 3 Powerpuff Girls DVDs: "Powerpuff Bluff", "The Mane Event", and "Down `n' Dirty". In addition to over 5 hours of Powerpuff Girls TV episodes, this boxed set has some nice bonus features...
Get this boxed set if you love the Powerpuff Girls (or know someone who does) but have none of these DVDs in the video collection. This boxed set makes a nice birthday or Xmas present for any serious Powerpuff Girls fan.
If you don't know if you like the Powerpuff Girls, I recommend that you watch the Powerpuff Girls Movie (which tells how the Powerpuff Girls became the local superheroines of Townsville) followed by any three of the standout episodes on the above list from the Cartoon Network or any Powerpuff Girls video before deciding. But be forewarned: You may wind up enjoying the Powerpuff Girls after watching the third episode.
