I remember watching this movie when I was young. A guy who attends night school comes up with these wild ideas to pitch to his girlfriend's boss (one of the NBC exec's) and his ideas are all wrong. That is, intil he discovered a chimp who can pick the top rated shows of the week. It's easy to laugh out loud when you're watching this movie, and it's one of the classics that entertain without the use of sex, drugs, swearing, any of the stuff used in hollywood today. Two thumbs up!

The Animated Stories for the New Testament The Good Samaritan Review

The Animated Stories for the New Testament The Good Samaritan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a an enchanting animated story portaying the parable that relates the greatest commandent- loving ones neighbor especially if its an enemy- as one loves ones self. Quite an unpopular sentiment in this day and age. It portrays a sneaky lawyer who asks Jesus what is God's greatest commandment in hopes of catching him in a lie. Jesus responses with a parable of a Jew being left bleeding on a roadside after being beaten and robbed. His own countrymen pass him by with little pity or a desire to help. He is rescued by a samaritian- a native of that ancient town of evil Samaria, the former capital of the ancient kingdom of Isreal during the days of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel.
His wounds are tended and his care is paid for by this man who he has been raised to hate since childhood. What irony, very appropriate for this day and age. One cannot be judge by skin color, religion, race or intelligence. They must be judged if they must be judged on thier own merit. One must care for one's fellow citizen of earth without these thoughts clouding thier decisions. Following this story the man who asked the question cannot accept the answer to this question: Who is thy neighbor? The answer is everyone.

The Christmas Dinosaur Review

The Christmas Dinosaur
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One of my best purchases. I got this cartoon for my 2 yr old grandson, who loves dinosaurs, and it was a great success. I watched it with him and his brother and sister, and we had to watch it 3 times in a row until he fell asleep. It is his new favorite movie of all time. He even chooses over Disney Cars.

The story is about a young boy who wants high tech robot for Christmas, but gets gift from relative from far away and decides to sneak and open it. Inside he finds an old dinosaur egg. He was disappointed until it hatches, and then he has to keep his new pet Pteronodon / Pterodactyl away from his parent and the noisy neighbor. It grows fast and he decides he has to take it back to where it came from. Very exciting and funny.
I watched it with kids and grandkids (all ages 2,4,6,10,13,51,31,32,29)and it was so much fun. Now going to be new family tradition to watch this during the Christmas holidays.

Let Me In (2010) Review

Let Me In (2010)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let Me In is one of the most beautiful films of the year, and probably the best remake that I have ever seen. It is based on the Swedish film, Let The Right One In, which was released two years ago to monumental acclaim from both critics and art-house audiences alike. This touching story, concerning a young man's crush on a 12 year old vampire named Eli, captured the hearts and minds of everyone who was lucky enough to see it. If Ingmar Bergman were to direct a vampire-themed film, it would look a lot like this. However, one should not think of the film as yet another entry into the recent "vampire" craze. It is much more than that. This is the film that Twilight only wishes that it could be.
The remake deviates structurally from the original, only in that the opening is a bit different, and a few minor characters have been altered or dropped altogether. The integrity of the storytelling remains intact, and as a result, much of the remake resembles the original in all of its snow-drenched glory.
Kodi Smit-McPhee plays Owen, a lonely young man who is constantly bullied at school in the most brutal fashion. He spends his evenings at home playing with knives, and spying on the attractive neighbor next door. In addition to these disturbing quirks, he has an almost addictive fondness for Now and Laters, and constantly eats the candy throughout the film. Chloe Moretz plays Abby, a young girl who moves in next door with a man that we initially assume is her father. The two meet on the playground one night, and bond over the intricacies of a Rubick's Cube. Soon, Owen develops a crush on his new friend, oblivious that Abby is really a vampire, and that her "dad" is in fact a serial killer, who creeps out into the night, stalking and killing random victims in order to bring buckets of blood back to Abby, in order that she will survive.
Meanwhile, an older cop tries to figure out who the mysterious killer is, as the bodies continue to surface. As far as Owen is concerned, the bullying still continues at school, but with a little advice from Abby, and a little bit of weight training, Owen realizes that he can stand up for himself in one of the film's most shocking - and darkly comic - sequences. It doesn't take long for Owen to realize who and what Abby really is. In all of his fright and confusion, he decides to stay by her side, and as a result, Abby vows to protect Owen in the only way that she knows how.
As I said, this is one of the best films of the year. Both of the leads deserve Oscar nominations for their layered performances. The cinematography is breathtaking. The score is beautiful, although there are moments in the film that could do without a background score. This is my only criticism of this otherwise perfect film. Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) has crafted a worthy tribute with Let Me In.
It is worth mentioning that this film is rated R, and while the film centers on two adolescents, it is not a film for the 12 and under crowd. It is much too disturbing at times, and the language is pretty rough. I would also encourage Twilighters to see the film, so that they may have a clear example of a film (Let Me In) and a product (Twilight).

From Matt Reeves - the director of Cloverfield - comes the new vampire classic that critics are calling 'chillingly real" (Scott Bowles, USA Today), 'one of the best horror films of the year" (Cinematical) and 'a haunting, touching and unforgettable thriller" (Pete Hammond, Boxoffice Magazine). In bleak New Mexico, a lonely, bullied boy, Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee of The Road), forms a unique bond with his mysterious new neighbor, Abby (Chloë Grace Moretz of Kick-Ass), who moves from town to town with the man who appears to be her father (Oscar Nominee Richard Jenkins of The Visitor).Trapped in the mind and body of a child, however, Abby is forced to hide a horrific secret of bloodthirsty survival. But in a world of both tenderness and terror, how can you invite in the one friend who may unleash the ultimate nightmare?Based on the Swedish novel, Let the Right One In, 'Let Me In is a dark and violent love story, a beautiful piece of cinema and a respectful rendering of my novel for which I am grateful." gilmore girls, is the kind of show, you cry with, laugh with and believe me, once you see it you will love it.
the cool thing about this serie, is that is a good drama, with very realistic characters, that you can relate to, but it also has a great touch of humor. the dialogs are amazing! it's very fun to see how the writters, include pop culture into the story.
the characters are so sweet, even the bad guys can be loved, because a good thing in this show is that none of the characters is perfect, so we can se the good side and the bad side of the story
I reccomened 100% to buy this set of dvd, you will never regret it. gilmore girls rock!

Gilmore Girls: The Complete Series Collection (2007) Review

Gilmore Girls: The Complete Series Collection (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I want to preface this review by saying this: I envy each and every person that will forever be able to pick up this set and experience the magic, whimsy, and zanyness of the Gilmore Girls fresh and anew for the first time.
`Gilmore Girls' which ran from 2001-2007 on the WB and CW networks is a show that is simply about a mother and daughter. But it goes so much further than that. This particular mother/daughter combo are best friends and separated in age by a mere 16 years. Yet, more than the interactions between Lorelai and her daughter Rory, typically the zany towns-people are the characters that steal the show. Their incredibly charm, matched with `the Gilmore Girls' wit, all set within the picture-perfect New England town of Stars Hollow, makes "Gilmore Girls" seem almost like a story book fantasy.
The series begins with Lorelai reluctantly starting to rebuild her relationship with her waspy high-society parents, after they agree to fund Rory's private school education. Throughout the seven seasons the audience watches as Lorelai relationship with her parents start to blossom, as well as the bond that forever strengthens between her and her own daughter, Rory. Lorelai was raised as a princess, but always hated her parents for the rules that society put upon her - hence why she ran away from home when she was 16 and pregnant. Throughout the years as well, the audience watches as Rory grows from an innocent and naĆÆve 15-year-old girl, into a mature and seasoned 22-year-old college graduate.
It's impossible to put into words just how magical this show really is. And it is not the perpetual `chick-flick' that many write-it off as. It is infact probably one of the smartest and best written television shows to grace the small-screen in recent years. One would need several PH D.s in Popular Culture to get even 80% of the refrences that these girls throw around. And beyond that the performances of the actors makes this show something special. And, although the show started as a drama, the humor was always present and by the middle of season one the glimpses of the great comedy to come started to make themselves known.
My review my sound like a very proud grand-parent raving about their grandchild, but that shows the love I have for this magical series. I watched from the very first episode at 14 years-old with my best friend until the series finale in my apartment during my sophomore year of college (with the same friend by my side, traveling 700 miles so we could watch it together). I have loved every moment, and will buy this set in a heartbeat.
This DVD set includes all 153 episodes on 42 DVDs in their original full-frame broadcast video with Dolby Surround Sound. Special Features include a "Welcome to the Gilmore Girls" documentary, deleted scenes from select episodes, pop-culture montages, a `gilmoreism' book, commentary on "I Jump, you Jump Jack" by series creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, as well as several `behind-the-scenes' featurettes.

Xiaolin Showdown - Season One (2003) Review

Xiaolin Showdown - Season One (2003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It took me several days to write this review, seeing as how I'd have to admit to zillions of online strangers how much I love a kid's cartoon. I swear I don't usually watch this stuff! It's not my fault! I just can't stand any more reality shows!
All right, down to business. Other reviews have covered the basics so I'll gloss over them quickly. Four kids--Clay, Kimiko, Raimundo and Omi--are brought to a temple in China, to train as warriors and locate magical artifacts. These artifacts were de-powered and hidden all over the world thousands of years ago, but are regaining their magical potency one by one. The young warriors must find them before they fall into the wrong hands. Those hands belong to an evil boy genius, his nagging ghost mentor, and a host of other interesting villains.
The artifacts give powers to whoever is holding them at the time, and I have to applaud the creators coming up with such an assortment of pleasing things. They can let you talk to animals, stretch yourself like chewing gum, summon a whirlwind, blast fire, or fool with the workings of space and time. Most artifacts require skill and discipline to use correctly. Some give you a new ability, but take away one that you already had. Others backfire. A few are too dangerous to be used at all. The characters have to think about using them; they can't just flail them around.
But the show isn't just about finding and mastering weapons--it's also about finding and mastering yourself. And while cartoons that moralize really rub me the wrong way, I approve this time. The characters learn to find the rational way to approach a problem, and even better, consider how their own strengths and weaknesses factor into a situation. A presence of forethought, more than skill or luck, is responsible for the good guys' victories. That's what sets Xiaolin Showdown head-and-shoulders above most other kid's shows.
Speaking of forethought, it has a glorious absence in the monks' adversary Jack Spicer, who is now my new favorite 'villain'. If this show was done live-action, I'd accuse Jack Spicer's actor of stealing the show. A cape-swirling, self-styled "Evil Boy Genius", Spicer builds armies of robots, grins and rants, chickens out, gloats and whines about the pitfalls he encounters on his lonely path to greatness. Brilliant yet foolish, egotistical, star-struck, greedy and impulsive, he is Daffy Duck trying his best to be Ming The Merciless. He's not much of a villain, but a perfect troublemaker and hilarious to watch. He's too haphazard--and a bit too nice--to be the evil genius he wants to be, but when he gets his act together, watch out. He has a little knowledge, and it's dangerous.
But Jack Spicer never stops to think about anything, and this begins and ends with him being chewed out by his ghostly sidekick, Wuya. Wuya is the squidlike, floating spirit of an ancient witch, who has teamed up with Jack Spicer for lack of a better partner. She's the brains of the outfit, but very much hampered by the fact that she's not solid and can't do things for herself. She can't force Spicer to do anything, just yell and egg him on, and she would clearly love to smack some sense into him.
None of the villains can get along with each other when they team up, and they double-cross, back-bite and dump each other constantly. The importance of compassion and teamwork is drawn clearly here--if you can't find a way to work with others, you're not going to get anywhere. And the good guys also do less-than-admirable things to each other, out of jealousy or anger, with similar results. Just *saying* they're 'good' is not good enough; the heroes have to learn to walk their talk.
The series explores the idea that humans are neither totally good nor totally bad, and yes, I know, it's just a simplistic cartoon...but the results are pretty interesting. Certain characters cross the good/evil line in either direction, and query each other or themselves on their true natures, especially after Volume One. This is the main reason WB needs to come out with Volume 2 on DVD. Ahem.
You can probably tell that I think this show goes beyond battles, but the fights are great too. When two people want to claim the same artifact, a Xiaolin Showdown is declared and the combatants fight using whatever artifacts they already have. But that, to me, isn't the interesting part; the battlegrounds are. Declaring a Showdown suspends the laws of reality while it's fought, and everything changes to a surrealistic landscape that never fails to amaze me with it's sense and creativity. These showdowns take place in space, in giant pinball machines, in a forest of impossibly tall trees--even a common haystack gets a fever-dream makeover. I love these sequences and, frankly, always wish that the animation was higher-quality so I could enjoy it even more.
Well, that's enough. It's a really good show with heart, brains, humor, a believable theme, magic shiny things and robots and stuff. Hang on for a good wild ride.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Alvin and the Chipettes in Cinderella Cinderella (2010) Review

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Alvin and the Chipettes in Cinderella Cinderella (2010)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The animated series "Alvin and the Chipmunks" is one of those animated series that has been part of the childhood of several generations. First beginning as a music group created by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. back in 1958, the trio which featured Alvin, Simon and Theodore were on top of the charts with their song "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" and eventually giving more exposure to the trio with the animated show "The Alvin Show" which started in 1961 and lasted through 1962.
But the chipmunk trio would return in a new animated series that would last through 1990 and feature a female chipmunk trio known as the Chipettes which featured Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor. During the eight and final year of the Chipmunks animated series, the series concluded with "The Chipmunks Go to the Movies" in 1990. The theme of the episodes were the Chipmunks and Chipettes doing a parody of popular films and television shows.
This DVD is the latest DVD release in the "Alvin and the Chipmunk goes to the Movies" series and the DVD features a total of three episodes which are:
* Cinderella? Cinderella? - (Episode 41) Brittany doesn't do her chores and Miss Miller tells her that if she wants to go to the dance, she needs to clean her mess. Brittany who is saddened, goes to sleep and dreams that she is Cinderella.
* Alvie's Angels - (Episode 61) Featuring a parody of "Charlie's Angeles", the Chipettes are Alvie's Angels who are on a mission to find the jewel thief Chazz Fleming.
* The Brunch Club - (Episode 55) Featuring a parody of the movie "The Breakfast Club". Alvin and the Chipmunks and Brittany and the Chipettes are stuck in detention. But someone knocked down the statue of Thomas Edison. Who did it?
VIDEO & AUDIO:
Animation for "Alvin and the Chipmunks Go to the Movies - Star Wreck" definitely shows its age. Since these episodes are 20+ years old, you're not going to get pristine picture quality . I will say that compared to the 1961 episodes seen on the DVD "The Very First Alvin Show", they must have remastered the 1961 episodes because they look clean and colors are nice and sharp.
Blacks are nice but compared to the late 80's and 1990's animation, although better with artistic backgrounds, these three episodes has its share of dust and comes out a bit blurry and soft. But if there was one thing that caught my attention is that the background artists did a good job painting the backgrounds (where many tend to not show as much shading of colors). The series is presented in full screen format.
As for the audio, audio is presented in Dolby Digital and in English Stereo. Audio is clear and understandable during the dialogue segments but for music, sometimes the words are hard to pick up. But for the most part, audio is clear and for those with a home theater-based receiver, the best option I found was to watch the series with stereo on all channels.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
There are no special features included. But there is a preview for upcoming "Alvin and the Chipmunk" DVD releases.
JUDGMENT CALL:
I grew up with "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and can easily remember watching the television series during my younger years. So, it's definitely a blast in the past to see these episodes on DVD. For the most part, the episodes are lighthearted as they feature both Alvin and the Chipmunks and also the Chipettes as various characters from popular Hollywood films.
With the upcoming release of "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" on Blu-ray and DVD, for the parents with children who want more Chipmunks or Chipettes can definitely show children these films.
The episodes are not violent and are family friendly. For the most part, as an adult, I think that this series can definitely be enjoyed by children and adults but possibly may not be enjoyed in the same manner as with children of today who are not familiar with the '70s TV show "Charlie's Angels" or the '80s film "The Breakfast Club" but then again, it's not really essential for them to know the film or TV episodes these episodes are parodying.
As for the DVD, I wish that they would include at least five episodes instead of three. As for the picture quality, the animation does show its age as some episodes are very soft and has its share of dirt and scratches (which is common with older animation on DVD).
But for the most part, fans who grew up with "Alvin and the Chipmunks" can be happy with this release, especially those who are familiar with the movies..
If you are a fan of this classic animated series, definitely check out "Alvin and the Chipettes in Cinderella, Cinderella".

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from these 30-minute segments - or as Tom Cavanaugh as host. What I got was much more than expected: a fun, fast look behind the scenes of the nation's most prestigious museum. Learn about magic lanterns, Phyllis Diller's thousand-joke card catalog, taxidermy, and more.
I was really impressed. Cavanaugh kept the content from becoming too boring. He is lively, and his bounce is the perfect balance to the quiet personalities behind the museum.
These are short and easy to watch - perfect for home schoolers, or those who like tidbits of trivia. Definitely worth the watch.

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations - Collection Four (2009) Review

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations - Collection Four (2009)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Season Four of No Reservations is where I think the show really started to pick up steam on the entertainment side of the house. Whereas the show used to revolve simply around Tony going to various locations and eating food, this is where the Travel Channel really started figuring out that Anthony Bourdain is probably their biggest star asset.
If you're a food show purist, you will probably be a little annoyed with the increased frequency of the "Tony, go hurt yourself," skits in the various locations. Season Four includes the zip lining and cave diving bits as well as the Greek shipwreck party and the night out at Kilauea. The entire episode focusing on Anthony going back into the kitchen at Les Halles will probably irk you too as there is little to no actual food tasting being done.
If you're a Bourdain fan, this will most likely be one of your favorite seasons; probably because of the Les Halles episode (and lets be honest, Eric Ripert makes everything better). This season is a very introspective one and it seems like Tony's really taking the time to figure himself out during the course of the season. You see a lot less of the old "A Cook's Tour" and "No Reservations: seasons 1 and 2" Bourdain - the smoking, drinking, swearing version of Tony. Yes, he still swears a lot, but as he made his transition into fatherhood, the mantle of responsibility was almost palatable (no pun intended). This led to some great personal moments in the Uruguay episode with his brother Chris, trying to reconnect with their family's history. Serious items aside, there's the great Southwest road trip episode with Alice Cooper and the always entertaining Ted Nugent.
If you're a foodie, there is so much to drool over in this season. There is a cavalcade of culinary giants showing up in these episodes: the before mentioned Eric Ripert, Masaharu Morimoto (Your Iron Chef!), Marco Pierre White, and he finally buries the hatchet with Emeril Lagasse. The entire episode on Spain is nothing but pure, unadulterated food porn. As always, Tony's love of Japan really shows through every time he visits the country, and this time is no different.
One of the things that makes No Reservations such a great show to watch is the fact that you're not just sitting there watching Tony eat multi-hundred dollar meals, but instead he's getting down at street level, attempting to eat what the locals eat. If you're lucky enough to have Tony visit an area or country where you grew up in an episode, you come away thinking that he has somehow managed to truly capture a little bit of your hometown. Now imagine that he's doing that for each and every location that he visits and you get an inkling of why this show is so great.

This is a History Channel show about the semi-famous Battle of Leyte Gulf. Called the largest naval engagement in history, the show is specifically about the role played by 'Taffy 3', a group made up of six small escort carriers, three destroyers and four destroyer escorts. This force, with the aid of aircraft from Taffy 1 and 2, went toe to toe with a vastly superior Japanese force of battleships, cruisers and destroyers...and won.
The story itself is a good one and one worth retelling and covered pretty well in 46 minutes. It has some input from some of the survivors and the author of the book by the same name. However, it's obvious that the budget for this show was tight. The graphics are just pictures with fire, for example, superimposed over it to demonstrate a ship getting hit and burning. Pretty low by the standards for THC these days. Episode 8 of season 1 of Dogfights uses 3d graphics and looks much better. As does episode 9 of Battle 360, though that show doesn't devote much time to the Taffy 3 part of the battle.
This disc is made and distributed for THC by some company that makes discs for anybody, hence the plain black box. But it's a good copy and doesn't sport the H bug in the corner, which is nice. There are no extras of course.
You don't really need this show unless you want it for a collection like I did. And it's $25, the standard price for single episodes since the 90s but one I've always concidered too expensive. The show is good enough but for a few bucks more you can get the whole season 1 of Dogfights (11 episodes) or Battle 360 (10 episodes).
