(More customer reviews)I don't have cable; I discoved this series through a certain red-envelope service. I find the whole series eye-opening, informative, and entertaining. I've seen several seasons now and this episode is one of my favorites.
John and all his family and friends have Boston accents. So "hard" becomes "hahd." "Rather" becomes "ratha" and "sweetheart" becomes "sweethaht." If you liked "Fargo" due to the Minnesota accents, then you'll be entertained here.
This particular episode touches upon those who handle death poorly. Several deaths, particularly in succession, is what feeds John's habits. He especially mourns for his heterosexual life partner Paulie. You can tell that John and Paulie were like Oprah and Gayle. It's touching to see, really.
At one point, John starts fighting physically with a friend. His friend has a nice hairy torso and nice upper arms. John loses his shirt and you get to see his cuddly belly, porcelain skin, and lightly-sprinkled chest hair. This thing about "Intervention" is: well, some of the addicts and their male relatives are hot! Drugs and alcohol haven't deprived them of their pulchritude. Watching John and his buddy in fisticuffs reminded me of the last scene in the Pet Shop Boys' video "Domino Dancing."
This has a positive ending too. If you see any episode, make sure to peep this one. I wish I could add John to my facebook list. He's swell!

(More customer reviews)I give credit to the History Channel for touching on this taboo subject but I thought it was a cursory examination of a international conspiracy to hide Japans hidden holocaust. Japan perpetrated atrocities not only on the chinese people of Manchuria but also imported close to one million Koreans to death Camps during World War II. Oddly it failed to make a single mention of this fact .One can only assume fear of reperations to Korea and strong U.S. relations have helped omit this bitter tyranny in history Japan has yet to admit.

(More customer reviews)This dvd biography only scratches a small surface to Malcolm X. This dvd is recommended for the amateur to the person, to the cause, to the movement. I would recommend this dvd ONLY if you have never had any exposure to Malcolm X. It's only about 30 minutes in length. It gives a poor description of Malcolm X. It does not show any footage that you can't see for free at the public library. It is overpriced and probably not worth spending the enormous retail suggested price.

(More customer reviews)interesting idea. 3 experts talk about a game as it's being played. i think it would of been better if the game had already been played and on tape, because ,the experts could of gone more indepth on each hand. as it was, they had to get their comment out "too" quickly before the next hand was finished. several times sklanky would be trying to make a point and was basicly "shhhhed" by the host. although they never argued, "mike the mouth" {more of a loose aggressive player} and david sklanky {tight aggressive} would dis-agree at times. the host had to stop slansky and the mouth from taking sometimes so bruson could {would have to} talk. i was very interested in some of "mike the mouths" comments. there really isn't that much in print on the more "loose aggressive" styles of poker. i enjoyed seeing and hearing david sklansky talk. i've read most of his books and in my minds ear he always sounds a liitle "gruf". and the back photo's of him and mason malmuth make them look like a couple of "hit men" or "serial killers". he came off "almost" normal.{just kidding}.

(More customer reviews)This DVD is a impressive account of the nine men in the United States Military to hold the rank of five-star. Fritz Weaver does an excellent job narrating the interesting and challenging lives of nine of the most brillant men that the United States was fortunate to have in the ranks of it's military. Weaver explains how Omar Bradley who had a humble beginning, and was the son of back woods people. But Bradley's parents moved up just a notch, his father was a school teacher who built libraries in the Higby, Missouri schools. While working for the Wabash Railroad Omar Bradley met a sudden opportunity to take the test for West Point.
In the fall of 1940 when Japan joined Germany and Italy in a Tripartite Military agreement, George Marshall promoted Bradley to the rank of Brigadier General (one star), skipping him over the rank of full colonel and making him the first member of his 1915 West Point class to achieve the rank of General Officer.
Then there are other generals- George Marshall, the Army Chief of Staff. Everywhere Roosevelt turned he heard that Marshall was the best the army had. Douglas MacArthur who fought the Japanese in Pacific Theatre and would lead a daring amphibious end run on September 15, 1950 at Inchon in the Korean War before being dischared by President Truman for his standard head-strong arrogance. Dwight D. Eisenhower who would become the Supreme Allied Comamder and lead the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. He would also turn the tide in the Battle of the Bulge in December of 1944 when the German dictator Adolf Hitler threw 24 divisions and 2 Panzer armies against the thinly held sector on the Belguim-German border. We can't forget Hap Arnold, who brilliantly led the Army-Air Forces, and became the only officer to wear five-stars in two services, the Army Air Coprs, and the Air Forces and the only five-star general in the United States Air Force.
Weaver narrates well and keeps your attention as he tells about Admiral William F. Halsey, an agressive sailor who earned his pilot wings at age 52. Halsey's agressive fighting spirit helped to defeat an enemy that seemed to be an unstoppable force-the Japanese Imperial Navy. On November 13, 1943 in the battle of Guadalcanal the US Navy and Japanese ships faced each other at close range. In the flaming night battle, the USS Atlanta went down, the Juneau was sank, taking with it the Sullivans all five brothers of a single family, Admirals Scott and Callaghan were killed, US lost of life exceed the enemy's, but Japanese offensive strength was broken. Then there is Admiral Ernest King, who had a keen eye for those who would succeed and those who would not. No commander would go into action without King's stamp of approval.
There's Admiral Chester Nimitz who stood seventh in his class at the Naval Academy. He commmanded the Pacific Fleet, and moved a naval force of aircraft carriers, battleships, destoyers and thousnads of men across the Pacific to defeat the Japanese.
Admiral William F.Leahy was a advisor to President Roosevelt and then Truman. He informed Truman that if United States military had invaded the Japanese homeland, the casualities would be a blood bath that the American people would not bea able to withstand.
There has not been a Five-star appointment since 1950. But those men who were appointed to that rank help bring America from tragedy to triumpth. If you want to know more about thier military careers, the positions they held after the war, you need to see this video.

It was difficult for me to understand the scope of the event, what it signified in the history of South Africa's people, and what the impact would be worldwide. Still, despite the fuzziness of childhood memories, Mandela's face has remained an icon of liberty, a symbol of the breaking of bonds, of reconciliation, and of freedom.
It is only natural then, that Mandela should be counted amongst the Lives That Changed the World in Smithsonian Networks release this month of their 2007 documentary of his life on DVD. Lives That Changed the World: Nelson Mandela is a 45-minute homage to the man who was so instrumental in building peace in the apartheid-torn country of South Africa.
Having inspired countless individuals with his journey from terrorist to Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Mandela's personal influence on ten people is explored alongside historical footage in this exploration of his life's impact. Among these individuals are his daughter Zindzi, who spent her formative years apart from her father due to his imprisonment, his former prison guard, a South African musician who was influenced by Mandela's revolutionary vision, a Canadian schoolteacher who shares about the impact of Mandela's release on his teaching, and others. Perhaps the most touching however is the testimony of Adriaan Vlok, former minister of law and order during apartheid rule.
Vlok shares his experiences seeking forgiveness and reconciliation for his sins both publicly and privately - the only apartheid-era minister to do so. His humble and heartfelt thoughts on the process of reconciliation brought me to tears.
The DVD features a standard scene selection menu, stereo and surround sound audio options, and optional English subtitles. The compact running time of Nelson Mandela makes it an easy-to-schedule supplementary learning opportunity for Black History Month for junior and senior high students. Younger children may be disturbed by the historical footage of the civil unrest and violent governmental retribution that took place in South Africa.
How can such a man's life be measured within the span of a brief documentary? Simply put, it can't be. Nelson Mandela does not touch upon Mandela's early life, nor does it speak to his relational ties with any apart from those interviewed in the film. As such, the DVD can't be considered a true biography. What we can glimpse however, is a part of what Nelson Mandela has meant to this world, and pass on his vision of peaceful equality to our own children.

If you answered yes, then get ready for an awesome documentary.
Ok, the good.
Great acting, great score, great pacing etc...
There was a ton of history thrown in here.
The parts on ancient Greece were incredible.
There was a ton of information in there I did not know about or had forgotten.
But as good as the parts on ancient Greece were the Aztec parts were the icing on the cake.
I've always found the Aztec culture fascinating.
Scary but fascinating and the documentary does an excellent job of providing answers as to how their civilization got started and how it ended.
Their bloody rituals were also explained in detail without being overly dramatic or graphic.
The bad?
Nothing.
Everything about this documentary was done right and done extremely well.
For people who are into history this comes...
Highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)I got this as a gift from a friend who knew I was an Ina fan. This set is basically a three-disc compilation of nine episodes of her Food Network show. They're from earlier in the show, so better than the more recent "Back to Basics" thing that she has been doing. There are a lot of recipes included, about 4-5 per episode so you're getting a good 40 or so recipes, all of which look delicious and are deceptively simple.
Buy this if you don't have regular access to Food Network to watch reruns of Barefoot Contessa; otherwise, get a cookbook, which would be an easier reference than a DVD.

Great for understanding some of the engineering achievements of the past. Many of these students will travel to France to see the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the fountains of Versailles, and this is an informative introduction for that experience.

Some of the footage is quite spectacular and the historical information is excellent. This is a must for anyone interested in German culture and this DVD is particularly suitable for lower levels of German classes because the commentary is in English.

PCN Tours Gettysburg Battlewalks: General Meade After Pickett's Charge Review

(More customer reviews)I would say that this DVD is very educational and interesting. The Park Ranger is very accurate in what he has to say in this video. You have to imagine what went on during this event in the Civil War. I am hoping they could come out with a reenactment of this battle and the thoughts that Gen Meade was thinking when he encountered the attack. I think Gen Robert E. Lee was a very sensible leader and he made the the wrong mistakes in not knowing that his army was not prepared with more than enough artillery to support his troops for this battle. The video was very exceptional and interesting and the Ranger was very detailed in what had happened that 3rd day of July 1863 at Gettysburg, Pa. The audio/ video team did a very good job in executing this assignment out in the field. I would rate this DVD a 4****'s for this detailed subject about Pickett's Charge and the thoughts in which General George Meade had to encounter the attack toward the enemy.

Also, because it was produced in 1999, it does not cover the latest developments. But, it is very thorough and includes extensive archival photo and film footage, plus interviews with Bob Hoover, several aviation historians, jet engineers, and others who have been a part of the development of jet engines. Since I use this video to teach turbine engine operation, I would have liked more coverage on the evolution of the technology and design of jet engines.

(More customer reviews)Back in the day, when Cartoon Network was in their prime, they had a killer lineup every Friday night. This included Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, and my personal favorite, a show about a cowardly dog named Courage. I was hooked from the first episode I ever watched, which featured the little black duckling. This show had it all. Great stories were first and foremost. They were like mini-films. The stories were ridiculous, but it didn't matter because they were treated in such an epic way. The animation was great, and the backgrounds were out of this world. As much as I liked Dexter and Powerpuff Girls, their backgrounds were VERY simplistic. It was refreshing to see the style used for Courage, where the backgrounds displayed so much detail and atmosphere, which drew you in to the story all the more. As for Courage himself, true, he was a coward, but in each episode, he had to find a way to put that all aside to save his owners, Muriel and Eustace. Courage was the kind of hero you could relate to. He didn't wanna be the hero, and if you had to go up against some of the crazy stuff he did, you wouldn't wanna be either. But there was something about the dog's anxious disposition and terrified personality that made him a likeable character. He didn't talk much, but what he said mattered. "I know I'm not gonna like this" was his battle cry when it came time for action. Then he would pull out some off-the-wall prop or devise some master plan to save the day, and things would go back to normal again, except for the fact that most of the time, the family house was destroyed by the end of the episode.
This is one of the best cartoon series ever made. It's timeless and truly fun to watch. I'm ordering a copy, and so should everyone else who enjoys good storytelling.
P.S.- It's too bad all the negative reviews for a DIFFERENT DVD release are showing up here. Those are for the Australian release, not this one.

16 & Pregnant, Season 1 Review

(More customer reviews)The show is terrific. It sheds realism onto the difficult and controversial topic of teen pregnancy. Instead of irresponsibly trivializing the issue, "16 and Pregnant" focuses on the hard-core real-life drama of having a baby and raising it while still being a teenager. The episodes often have re-curring sub-topics, such as parental relationship to the pregnant teenager, finishing high school/earning a GED while pregnant, facing the intense demands of a screaming newborn, trying to keep your relationship going strong while coping with a child.....etcetera....the only downside to ordering the DVD, that you should expect ( I wish somebody had told me this before I ordered the DVD ) is not to see the episode "Unseen Moments: Season One". In the first season of "16 and Pregnant", we had six hour-long episodes sharing the stories of teen parents. After the last parent's episode, we had one episode that was the "Reunion Special" and we had the episode "Unseen Moments: Season One". "Reunion Special" IS included on the DVD, but the "Unseen Moments: Season One" episode is not. Kind of a drag, since technically it IS part of the first season. There are also no English subtitles, so some of the dialogue is difficult to understand.
As for a summary of the stories in Season One, here is a brief synopsis:
Episode #1: "Maci". Maci is an overachieving teen whose life heads in a whole new direction after she gets pregnant. Her fiancee, Ryan, is very immature and Maci is not sure if she can depend on him or not.
Episode #2: "Farrah". Farrah is a pregnant teen who risks losing her friends due to her pregnancy. She also has issues getting along with her parents and finding the right place for herself emotionally.
Episode #3: "Amber": Amber is an expectant teen who drops out of high school and moves in with her older boyfriend, Gary. The pregnancy and the animosity between themselves and their families threatens to destroy their relationship.
Episode #4: "Ebony": Ebony is a teen mom-to-be who is trying to maintain her high goals, along with her impending motherhood. She and her slacker fiancee, Josh, try to deal with making sacrifices in order to make their family work.
Episode #5: "Whitney": Whitney is a childish yet likable pregnant teen who is trying improve her living situation with her boyfriend, Weston, her mother ( who is also pregnant ), her mother's boyfriend, and her grandmother.
Episode #6: "Catelynn": Catelynn is an expectant teen from the wrong side of the tracks. She is fortunately in a good relationship with her boyfriend Tyler, but the couple faces the toughest decision of their lives-adoption-without their families' support.
Tough stuff. Emotional.
The "Reunion Special" episode is on the special features disc. It is a Q&A forum with the teen mothers and a live audience. It is very interesting and Dr. Drew Pinsky does a very good job of neutrally hosting it.
I would recommend this show to teen moms, young moms, or even anybody who knows a teen mom or a young mom. If I had watched this show as a teenager, I would have looked at it from a teenager's point of view, and the parents' opinions in the show probably would have annoyed me. But now I am an adult, and I can see both sides-the parents' points-of-view, and also the angst-ridden points-of-view from the teenage moms and their boyfriends.
Very good show. Just wish the DVD was better :-(

This is a concise & objective view of a special breed of sailor - those called to minister to the sick & injured, primarily sailors & Marines, but Corpsmen "don't stop & look for a Marine or Navy uniform". The history begins with just a brief mention of "lob-lollie boys" who helped ships' surgeons in the earliest years of United States formation as a nation. the next brief glimpse comes with the Civil War. In this case, it seemed as Hospital Corpsmen were no different than Army medics & were called "surgeons' stewards". Finally, when the video addresses WWI, it seems the distinct history of the Hospital Corps becomes evident. During WWII, the viewer is told Hospital Corpsmen are known as Pharmacists' Mates. I would have liked to have heard when that designation was used & why & then when the designation Hospital Corpsman started to be used. The histores of Korean War & Vietnam War were satisfactory, given the time requirement for the entire program. In the end, it made me proud & I can proudly say "I was one of them!"

(More customer reviews)I have to admit, whenever I think of this show I think of life back in 2006 when it premiered. I was at a pivotal time in my life. This show was a breath of fresh air and it often reminds me of the girlfriend I had at the time as she loved this show as well. Being that she lived in North Carolina and I in Atlanta, we both would watch the show every Friday and then go out and party in our respective cities. We would text each other all night and weekend about the show and what was funny and what hit home the most. Being that we're not together now, I often think of her when the show comes on and she's communicated the same about me. In watching these episodes, it reminds me of that time with her.
This was a wonderful show. I am very disappointed it ended and not many people took to it. I can't say one bad thing about this show and how it was written / filmed. Hands down this show was one of the best series ever made.
Season 2 was more of a hiccup due to the Writer's strike, as all the shows were never completed.
The first 3 seasons chronicles the lives of Jason, Tim, Smash, Lyla, Matt, Landry and Tyra (along with Coach Taylor and his family). With Season 4 and 5 it chronicles new characters Vince, Luke, Becky and Jess. Season 5 was more heartwrenching. What more can I say about this show. It was just great. I have an empty feeling now that it is over with and there is no more anticipation for what else is to come. You want the best for every character and when something bad happens it almost hit home as you can relate to their struggles.
I've made it a point to share and tell everyone about this show who wants to hear about it. It's one of the best and I wish all the people and actors associated with it the best in their future endeavors. If you haven't watched this.. Please start with Season 1 episode 1.. and enjoy the journey as I have. I hope this will help you choose to watch 76 hours of one of the best shows that ever graced television.

(More customer reviews)Finally, the second volume of the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars by the Samurai Jack production team. Director Genndy Tartakovsky, obviously a fan of the Star Wars Saga, fills this series with more scenes that fans have waited for that even George Lucas hasn't delivered, for example: The "Knighting" of a Jedi, Windu fighting airborne, while Yoda fights an overwhelming invasion force on Coruscant, much more. The angular stylized animation is a visual feast for all generations. This volume continues where the first left off, with General Grievous, while the war continues, Anakin Skywalker undergoes his final rite of passage, while Master Shaak Ti and other Jedi try to defend the Supreme Chancellor from the General. Clone Wars Vol. II. aired just before the release of Episode III., the series efficiently bridges the Episode II/III. gap, the events in the final chapters (21-25) leading directly to the opening of the movie. Unseen events from the opening crawl are elaborated on like how the Chancellor is kidnapped, how Coruscant strike happens and C-3PO, voiced by the "real deal" (Anthony Daniels), revealing his new "suit." After the 3 minute chapters of "season one" the extended 12 minute chapters are better suited to the more envolved story-line(s).
A must-have for Star Wars and animation fans. Clone Wars Vol.II., like it's predecessor, is an excellent vehicle to introduce the uninitiated to "the Saga."

Attila (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)Here is a wonderful movie that mixes fact & fiction, sometimes telling factual events in a fictional way. All in all, however, it is a film that is well done & well worth viewing.
It is a fact that Attila did set foot inside the walls of Rome as a guest. However, it is false that he was the guest of Flavius Aetius while both were grown men. As a matter of fact, as a boy the two were "exchanged." Atilla lived in Rome while Flavius Aetius lived amongst the Huns. It was then that Attila swore that he would return one day not as a guest of Rome, but as its conquerer.
It is dubious that Attila obtained a liking for the hot baths of Rome during his youthful sojourn in the city. By all accounts of the period historians, the king of the Huns lived a very simple and Spartan existence, despite the excesses of his officers and his extravagant wealth. Gerard Butler also portrays a bit more of a debonair and "GQ looking" Atilla than I ever imagined the historical Atilla. However, that is forgivable. After all, this is Hollywood, right?
It is a fact that Valentian III personally murdered Aetius (bad idea) in 454 A.D. As someone supposedly told Valentian, "With your left hand, you have cut off your right hand." Also, the Romans did sign a treaty with the Visigothic king Theoderic I to aid in fighting the Huns. This was a reversal from earlier times when the Romans and Huns ganged up on the Visigoths. This is recounted accurately in the film.
All in all, this was an extremely good effort. It is very hard to display the dwindling years of an empire's hegemony in 3 short hours. This movie does an excellent job with the material at its disposal. The battle scenes are fairly well done, and they even pull off a passable battle of the Catalaunian Plains in the climactic sequence. However, the armies are a bit undersized; it quickly becomes evident that the film's budget did not have the resources for an extensive use of extras. But, the battle scenes are well choreographed & do show off the "tortiose" formation of the Legions.
After the death of Attila, Rome held on to her supremacy for a few more decades before finally seeing her empire fade into the darkness. Rome was one of the greatest and most long-lasting empires the world has ever seen. It was people like Atilla and Shapur who helped push it over the precipice. As such, Atilla became one of the most feared, hated and respected men in all of history. Herein lies his story.

(More customer reviews)First of all, I agree with many of the reviewers, posted here, that the advertising of these cartoons as unedited while presenting edited material is terrible! However, this could have been a mistake and I think we should be willing to give WB the benefit of the doubt on this one, provided they make good and get us the replacement discs as soon as possible. However, if what the other reviewer says is true and WB does NOT intend to replace the Disc with the correct material, then they open themselves up to a law suit for advertising the set as one thing but delivering something else.
Now, I would like to start by commending WB and the forces and talents behind the scenes who have worked long and hard to get this classic material out there on DVD. It is great to be able to own them in this format and the extra materials, such as the Bill and Joe Story and the Scott Bradley piece are very interesting and informative. This is true, particularly, of the Scott Bradley piece, in which Mr. Bradley regales us, in his own words, (dramatized from an article he wrote for a magazine in the 1940s) of his process and thoughts on scoring these wonderful shorts. It was very detailed and specific; intelligent and fascinating. I also enjoyed the stereo title that was very nicely presented. So let me say thank you, here, to all involved in the process of getting these cartoons released on DVD and PLEASE keep the classic titles coming! We love them, we want them and we thank you for them!
That aside, I have to say, particularly with these "Tom and Jerrys", these prints are NOT recently restored, (with the exception of the Cinemascope prints, which are gorgeous!). The majority of the prints are identical, wobble for wobble and scratch for scratch, to the ones offered on the Japanese DVD sets that have been out for some time. Yes, these shorts do appear somewhat sharper on DVD and the colors are saturated, but re-mastered, I think not. Just take a good look at "Designs on Jerry", for one, and you will be convinced. There is so much debris on that print that it appears to be snowing on screen. In fact, most all of the standard prints on this collection have emulsion scratches and scrapes and "boogars" (as they say in the industry) and that is dismaying to say the least. Compare these Tom and Jerry shorts to the ones in the Looney Tunes collections, (where they actually DID go back to the original materials and re-master the shorts) and you will easily see the difference in quality. Why, even the sound on most of the Tom and Jerry selections is garbled during the first few feet of film and that is just ridiculous.
Actually, I was surprised to read that a few of the reviewers on Amazon comment on the fact that these cartoons have "never looked and/or sounded so good". They actually look and sound very much the same as the prints on Boomerang and Cartoon Network, or in past releases of the material in different formats, (in some cases worse) and appear to be the same prints, redone around 1995. The commentary, by Jerry Beck, is very interesting and insightful, but he remains silent through a good deal of the cartoons and I would really like to hear more detail regarding the process of making these little gems and about the animators who worked on the shows. Perhaps even a comparison of the thumbnails by Joe Barbara and the finished scenes in the films. Now that would be something!
I have discussed this release with a number of friends and colleagues in the animation industry and there is a consensus there. We are so pleased and happy that WB has been talked into releasing classic animation to DVD, we only wish that they would consistently put their best foot forward and put out the very finest quality material they are able to present on EACH AND EVERY classic DVD offering. Please restore them fully and let us enjoy them in the quality they deserve. In the long run, these cartoons are not going anywhere. They will always be around and in demand and they are, indeed, a unique American art form. Down the road, as formats change, as technology improves and as new generations discover the magic of the Hollywood cartoon, I am sure immaculately restored prints will be well worth the while.

DVD FitPrime FAST CHEETAH Tracie Long from creators of THE FIRM Review

(More customer reviews)This is the third video I've tried from the old FitPrime series, but it's the first that was a mainly cardio focus. I've found the FitPrime workouts to be quite quirky, but I think that's what I like about them. In particular, I appreciate the variety of unique moves combined with simple choreography and an overall great workout.
The Fast Cheetah DVD is very well-chaptered as listed below. I've added my own brief descriptions of each segment as well as approximate times.
1. Step Climb, 3.5 minutes. This warm-up uses the tall box for slow step-ups/overs, nicely warming up the lower body and beginning to get the heart rate up.
2. Warrior, 2 minutes. This brief stretch incorporates warrior pose from yoga.
3. Ball Toss, 2.5 minutes. Here Tracie uses a medicine ball to "play": she does side steps tossing the ball lightly back and forth plus throws the ball in the air while doing squats. I don't have a medicine ball, so I just used a light (3 lb.) dumbbell; this wasn't a perfect substitute, but it worked fine.
4. Step Chug, 3 minutes. Here Tracie sort of stomps on the box for the "chug" plus does v-steps and small hops.
5. 4-limb Squats, 4 minutes. Using light weights, Tracie incorporates some toning into the cardio by working the delts and biceps. This segment also contains plenty of balance moves.
6. Push-pull, 5 minutes. This section includes knee-ups and jumps from a lunge position.
7. ND Handstand and Hip, 2 minutes. Beginning on the non-dominate side, you perform "handstands" on the tall box--these aren't as scary as they sound, as you basically just put your hands on the box and jump up to raise your hips (ie, you don't actually come all the way up into a true handstand position). This segment also includes squats.
8. Hyper Sweeps, 2 minutes. Here you keep your hands on the box for squats and rear leg extensions.
9. Kickbox, 2 minutes. Tracie incorporates some simple kickboxing moves with knee-ups, side kicks, and punches.
10. D Handstand and Hip, 2 minutes. #7 repeated on the dominant side.
11. Climb and Jump, 2 minutes. More tall box climbs, this time with jumps and rear leg extensions.
12. 4-limb Cross, just under 3 minutes. The light weights are again used for more delt and bicep work with squats and dips.
13. Ball sports, just under 3 minutes. This segment is kind of fun; you again use the medicine ball to simulate sports moves.
14. Ball balance, 2 minutes. Uses the medicine ball for balance and stretch.
15. + AWS Spring Hypers, 1 minute. Not sure what this name means, but it's basically some cool-down work with the ball involving slow squats, balance, and reach. At the end, you add ankle weights for the floor work.
16. ND Bridge Pecs, 3 minutes. With one foot on the box and the ball between your legs, you do bridge work followed by push-ups.
17. D Bridge Pecs, 2.5 minutes. Same thing repeated on other side (the segment is shorter due to less set-up time).
18. Prone Spine, 3 minutes. This is some basic back extension work; ends with a plank.
19. Supine Abs, 4 minutes. Simple crunches for the upper and lower abs plus obliques; also includes some inner thigh work. The ankle weights are removed at the end of this segment.
20. Crunch Stretch, 3.5 minutes. There are just a couple of additional moves for the abs without the weights, then Tracie performs a final stretch mostly on the floor.
The workout comes in right at 55 minutes. Overall I enjoyed it, although I think I'll need to do it a few more times to really get the moves down--sometimes I get confused on the tall box climbs. Overall, I liked this workout and think that it will be a nice alternative cardio option.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Fifth Season (1997) Review

(More customer reviews)One of the most extraordinary things about BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER is that in Season Two they managed to produce one of the greatest seasons in the history of television, and then managed to pretty much equal it for the entire run of the show. Amazingly, each year they did this by taking the show in completely different directions. In the season opener Buffy meets and defeats the most famous of all vampires, Dracula, but the show demonstrated its willingness to take extraordinary risks by ending the episode with the startlingly revelation that Buffy has a sister. Buffy, of course, is an only child, but the brilliant thing was the way the show continued for several episodes as if Dawn, Buffy's new sister, had always been a part of the family. Moreover, Dawn isn't just a part of her immediate family: all Buffy's friends have their own relationship with Dawn, and she is clearly completely integrated with everyone in the community.
There are Buffy fans who like and dislike nearly every aspect of BUFFY. Some did not care for the addition of Dawn to the cast, but I loved it, partly for the virtuosic manner in which they integrated her in the cast, and partly for the astonishing story line that developed out of who she truly was. Dawn, an entity of pure energy that is a key to a demon portal, was created by monks as a real human being, a real sister to The Slayer, in order to guarantee that Buffy would protect her with her life. I love the way that all the Scooby Gang completely accepts her, and the profound questions it raises in Dawn herself, as she desperately attempts to come to terms with the knowledge that she isn't who she remembers herself to be.
Old subplots are resolved and new ones emerge. Buffy's romance with Riley, nearly universally loathed by Buffy fans, thankfully ends. Giles takes over the ownership of The Magic Box and Anya becomes his enthusiastic assistant. Spike, still harmless due to his implant, is horrified to realize that he is in love with Buffy. Joyce is stricken with a brain tumor and eventually dies of a brain aneurysm, which leads to what is in many ways the most remarkable episode in the entire history of the show, "The Body." Most of Buffy is shot employing a quick, fast moving pace. But this episode intentionally slows down time, intensifying and emphasizing every nuance of Buffy's overwhelming grief and panic at discovering her mother's body. In my opinion, it is the single best representation in either film or TV of human reaction to the death of a loved one.
Season Five's primary story arc is, however, that of the hell goddess Glory and her attempt to recover The Key (Dawn) that will allow her to reenter her hell dimension. Glory is, with the possible exception of Angelus, the best villain in the history of BUFFY and ANGEL. She is a goddess portrayed as super consumer (her nice shoes and pedicures causes Dawn to remark, "She has really nice feet"), going on spending sprees to placate her sorrows at being trapped in a dimension not her own. Her whacky wit and (for a goddess) naive stupidity combined with her considerable power creates excitement nearly every second she is onscreen. In a season of many highlights, I especially love the episode where Glory's minions wrongly assume that Spike is The Key, and bring him to Glory, who tortures him to find out who The Key truly is. Despite beating him badly, he refuses to tell. Buffy's intense and heartfelt gratitude signals a change in attitude on the part of the Scoobies, and hints that behavior and compassion are as much a mark of someone becoming good (despite being a vampire) as having a soul (in the case of Angel). The final episode, "The Gift," is one of the truly epic moments in the entire series, and yet another of the classic moments that BUFFY left us. The final shot of the season is simply heartbreaking.

TR3 Making of Ricky Martin MTV Unplugged - La Otra Camara Review

(More customer reviews)This DVD is an advance promotional film for Ricky's celebrated 2006 appearance on MTV's UNPLUGGED. Ricky and the musicians are seen rehearsing and also comment on the music and production (important note: all speak in Spanish except for a rare sentence in English here and there and there are no subtitles). The film runs about 30 minutes and the lone "bonus feature" is the complete song "Tu Recuerdo" from the program.
This DVD has a curiously steep list price given the actual concert program is also on DVD for less than half that amount, however it appears this DVD may have initially been a "promo" release in it's original release at a low budget price like several other DVDs of this nature, seemingly confirmed by the number of Amazon marketplace sellers who have it at a very low price. If you're a major fan of Ricky Martin's you will no doubt want this DVD for your collection but for the newer fans or ones who just want the music I would recommend purchasing the actual program RICKY MARTIN UNPLUGGED or some of his other excellent DVDs like 17 or ONE NIGHT ONLY instead.

The DVD includes interviews with teens who were suicidal. Their stories are motivational. They talk about their own experiences, as well as how they have learned to help other teens avoid suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

The best thing going in this movie was the unbelievably sexy Stephanie Beaton who jumped out of the "horror genre" to make this straight to Skinamax flick. The plot to the movie is "laughable" as are most movies of this type, but lets be honest with ourselves, no idiot buys this movie for the superb acting, its all about the T&A!!! Another thing to enjoy is that most of the sex scenes aren't completely drowned out by cheesy violin porn music, which we all hate, and a lot of them aren't in super slow motion and are actually believable!!! Overall I give this movie 4 stars, but only because of Stephanie Beaton

As I write this review, just after the end of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, the future of the show is very uncertain. The ratings after the show's move to Friday night in February 2009 were never strong, although it persistently ranked #1 among shows having the largest percentage of their viewers watching via DVR. The brute fact is that TSCC did not lack for viewers; it lacked for live viewers during broadcast.
I hope very much for a Season Three of TSCC. This was easily one of my favorite shows for the 2008-2009 season. When it was on Monday nights, I watched it live rather than either CHUCK or GOSSIP GIRL, two shows that I enjoy. When it moved to Fridays I intentionally stayed home to watch it (and then for six glorious weeks DOLLHOUSE and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, for what was perhaps the finest nights of TV I've ever experienced). Although the show lagged a bit just after its midway point (unfortunately right when it moved to Fridays), it remained persistently fascinating for the entire year. If I had access to a button that would allow me to choose between either having the upcoming film TERMINATOR SALVATION or TSCC vanishing, then we would never have the movie but would get a Season Three of the TV series. My preference is based on a love of character development and a richly articulated story, neither of which is possible in a 120-minute movie. Besides, most movies quickly degenerate into a special effects extravaganza, and the previews of TERMINATOR SALVATION definitely leads one to fear that that is precisely what we will get this summer.
I do have a couple of complaints with the TV series. I think that the writers sometimes allowed it to drag a bit in Season Two. And while I'll grant that "Sarah Connor" was in the title and that John Connor is ultimately the crucial character in the Terminator saga, far and away the most interesting character on TSCC was Cameron. Most of the weaker episodes were notable for having little or no Cameron. Most of the truly great moments on the show had Cameron front and center.
Let me interrupt myself to insist that if you DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED, to not read any futher!
Season One focused primarily on tracking down the possessors of a computer with an advanced AI named "The Turk" (the name alluding to a famous 18th century chess playing machine in the shape of a Turkish male that vanquished many opponents before it was revealed that it was a hoax, a chess master actually hiding inside the machine). That apparently accomplished, Sarah, John, and Cameron embarked on a series of clues that led them to the ZeiraCorp, headed by a shape shifting terminator played by Garbage lead singer turned actress Shirley Manson. One of my favorite things about Season Two is that for nearly the whole season we are led to believe that Catherine Weaver (Manson) is an evil Cyborg. After all, she kills numerous individuals and resurrects deceased evil Cyborg Cromartie to serve as the body for John Henry, the super computer that her company is building. But in the season (series?) finale she is revealed to be on the side of the angels. Or is she? Given an easy opportunity to kill John and Sarah, she not only does not do so, but saves their lives. And both John and Sarah seem to take her at her word. All season long viewers had been looking forward to a Weaver/Cameron encounter, but instead we see Weaver insisting that she is fighting SkyNet, just as they are. The whole plot is further complicated by Cameron apparently refusing Weaver's offer to join her cause. The fact is that at the end of the season Cameron and her agenda remains a total mystery.
For the past year I've been engaged in a detailed study of robots in the history of myth, literature, film and television. TV robots and Cyborgs have been widely prevalent but also not terribly complex. I deeply love a character like Sharon Agathon on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, but Sharon is so clearly human - even if a Cyborg - that she doesn't really challenge our understanding of human/robotic relationships. She looks like us, acts like us, and feels like us. It is difficult to say in what significant sense that she isn't as much as a person as any human. Cameron is perhaps the most complex, challenging robot/Cyborg we've ever seen on TV. Summer Glau brilliantly portrays her as something both more than and less than human, something undeniably strange and "other." She apparently lacks feelings, yet definitely has her own motivations. She is a machine, yet at times seems eerily human, such as taking pains over her toe nail polish or practicing ballet. She even tries, in one Season Two episode, to make a friend of her own. Seeing her make her very odd overtures to a wheelchair bound guy is one of the strangest things on the show, including her telling him that the cancer that he previously suffered from has returned. Though she intends it kindly, she doesn't grasp why her telling him something that she shouldn't be able to know and that he finds so emotionally devastating effectively ends their friendship. Even odder is that the sudden ending of their relationship seems to have no impact on her. There is absolutely no question that within the next half-century robots will begin to play an increasingly important social role in human life. In Japan especially scientists are working hard on companion robots for children and for the elderly. It is impossible to imagine that they will not also play a role with many other humans as friends (most people consider their dogs to be friends and they can't talk like robots are on the verge of being able to) and even romantic companions. Cameron is the only robot on TV that I know of that raises many of the questions about robot/human relations that will be increasingly pertinent in the coming decades. If TSCC is not renewed for a third season, ending Cameron's story will be one of the great losses on the show. At the end of Season Two she remains a complete mystery. I personally want that mystery resolved.
Though we didn't need additional proof of it, TSCC is yet another example of the fact that there is absolutely no connection between quality, viewership, and renewal in American television. It is further proof of just how broken commercial TV is. The brute fact is that TV series are, from the corporate point of view, vehicles for commercials. If they provide a platform for a large number of people to see the commercials that are the economic heart of the shows, they are in the eyes of the networks great shows. Absolutely dreadful shows like TWO AND A HALF MEN or the endless police procedurals on CBS illustrate this. I've never seen a respected TV critic with a kind word for TWO AND A HALF MEN, yet it remains the most watched half hour comedy on television. Thus, it is the best platform for advertising. PUSHING DAISIES was cancelled at midseason despite more critical acclaim than any other series on the four major networks. Perhaps for fans of television the major networks have outlived their usefulness. If they can't find a place for a show as fine as TSCC on their schedules, it is proof that TV is broken. FOX eats up huge gobs of its schedule with the unceasingly awful AMERICAN IDLE while NBC has eliminated five hours of scripted TV in the 2009-2010 schedule so that they can hand it over to the untalented and uninteresting Jay Leno.
But it isn't the networks that are to blame. It is the American TV viewer. As long as we tune in to AMERICAN IDLE, various reality dancing shows, TWO AND A HALF MEN, and police procedurals, they are going to keep giving us crap. I am a radical on this. I actually think that there is an ethics of TV viewing. I honestly believe it is immoral to watch 20/20 or TWO AND A HALF MEN and that it will be unconscionable to watch Jay Leno's new series. Or if you must watch these horrible shows, at least DVR them. As long as they are the best vehicles for commercials, we are going to continue to lament the cancellation of the better shows and the unceasingly continuation of critically unacclaimed and artistically empty series.
The one reason for hope for TSCC is the film TERMINATOR SALVATION, which is likely to be the biggest box office hit this summer. This past year Warner Brothers negotiated a smaller licensing fee with FOX, which was a factor in its renewal. Perhaps the film in combination with a similar deal from Warner Brothers could lead to another season. We can hope.

where the movie left off. You can start here, you don't need to have
seen the original movie. All you need to know is that Buffy is the
current slayer and that a slayer is someone given special superhuman
powers that enables them to fight the supernatural in all their
forms.
Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) has been brought from her old
school (in the movie) to the town of Sunnydale by her mother for a new
start, unfortunately it turns out that as luck (or design would have
it), Sunnydale is built on a gate to hell called the Hellmouth. This
sets the premise for the show, in that frequently various monsters are
attracted to the presence of the Hellmouth and cause all kinds of
mayhem each week.
This tape is the first two episodes of the first
series. It introduces and brings the major characters together for the
first time: Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), Buffy's new watcher
and doubling (as cover) as the school librarian, Xander (Nicholas
Brendon) and Willow (Alyson Hannigan), two of the people so far on the
outer of the in crowd they might as well be in another solar system
and Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), very much part of the in crowd and
someone that the rest of the group continually cross swords
with.
This two part opener is fairly straightforward, it introduces
the Season 1 villain, The Master (Mark Metcalf) who is trapped
underground....
...his henchmen led by Luke (Brian Thompson - best known as the
shapeshifting alien bounty hunter from the X-Files) and Darla (Julie
Benz)...
This
is a great start to the television series and it is amazing how the
actors have portrayed their characters so well from the very first
episode. It also sets the tone of the show, in that not only is there
frequent battles with monsters but also having to deal with high
school, classes, the principal and people who just don't like you
because you're not in the 'in crowd' at the same time.
This tape is
a great introduction to the show and makes a great gift to introduce
the show to anyone who hasn't seen it before, with a great mix of
humour and action. ....
Anyway, as I said these two episodes are better than most
movies made and chances are if you like this sort of thing, you will
especially like this. Hopefully, you will also want to keep following
the show as it is also actually one of the most skillfully written and
insightful shows around at the moment as well.
Highly recommended.

Most cut scenes were implemented with a spinning sky or something similar. Had to stop watching it after only 1 hour. Producer/Director needs to lighten up on the uneccesary effects. I would NOT BUY this.

A must for my friend's wedding gift. The first one went over great in a gift basket earlier this month! It seems to be the perfect gift for either hard to shop for geeks or anybody who needs their mind expanded! So many great things to think about. This was one of the best episodes of The Universe. (I will have one when people start living on the moon or some other planet).
This is the show that opened the conversation of "Sex on Planet Earth" and beyond as a good thing, of its nature, (instead of degrading it). Sex in Space got me and millions of people thinking about Earth's place in a much bigger universe ... and I will go anywhere in a 2Suit (yes it even has Vanna Bonta flying in zero gravity -- she brought the stars and heavens right to my heart, made the cosmos real).

The CGI is awesome. The DVD is BluRay and the HD is great. This episode has the right mix of science and humanity.

(More customer reviews)This is a 2-disk set, covering 8 different people from various walks of life as they come out to friends and relatives who mean a lot to them. The stories are told honestly and thoroughly. Very moving -- you can feel the anxieties of each person as they approach the coming out moment. I like the way the videos periodically display a quote that is about to be said by someone in the video. Very effective. Each "story" runs about 25 minutes. The picture and sound are high quality. We've shown several episodes at our high school's Gay Straight Alliance meetings and they sparked much discussion. I highly recommend this video.

Oprah's mother was an eighteen-year-old housemaid named Vernita Lee. Her father was a twenty-year-old doing duty in the armed forces: his name - Vernon Winfrey.
For the first six years of her life, Oprah was raised on a Mississippi farm by her grandmother. Perhaps the first stroke of good luck for the young child. Oprah credits living with her grandmother probably saved her life.
At the age of six, her mother, Vernita Lee, decided that she could care for her young daughter and Oprah was sent to live with her in Milwaukee. From ages six to thirteen, Oprah stayed with her mother. She was raped by a cousin when she was nine years old and later molested by a male friend of her mother's and by an uncle. The young girl never told anyone about the abuse. Instead, she held her anger and pain inside and she rebelled. She repeatedly ran away and got into trouble.

Her mother decided to put her into a detention home. Fortunately for Oprah, she was denied admission to the home because there were no openings. So, in what may have been her second major stroke of good luck, she was sent to live with her father Vernon Winfrey in Nashville. Before she ceased her promiscuous and wild behavior, she became pregnant and gave birth to a stillborn baby boy when she was fourteen. The death of her baby devastated her and she vowed to turn her life around.
Oprah Winfrey began her career in 1973 in Nashville, Tennessee, as WTVF's youngest -- and first-ever African-American -- news anchor, before moving in 1976 to Baltimore's WJZ, where she took over the chat-fest People Are Talking in 1978.

In 1983, Winfrey moved to Chicago to host AM Chicago, which within three years would become The Oprah Winfrey Show, roll out nationally via syndication, to become what it is today.
On learning from life-- "And what I found is that every time you have to repeat the lesson, it gets worse. I call it God trying to get your attention. The universe trying to get your attention. "Sooo we didn't get your attention the first time. We are going to have to hit you a little harder this time." So I'm still doing it. I'm still learning.
And it seems worse because it gets worse. I say, the universe is always trying to get your attention. Sometimes it starts out -- any major problem you encounter -- as a whisper. By the time it gets to be a storm, you've had a pebble knock you upside the head; you've had a brick; you've had a brick wall; you've had a house fall down. And before you know it, you are in the eye of the storm.
But long before you are in the eye of the storm, you've had many warnings, like little clues. So now my goal in life is not to have to hit the eye of the storm, but to catch it in the whisper. To get it the first time. I think the thing, the one thing that has allowed me to certainly achieve both material success and spiritual success, is the ability to listen to my instinct. I call it my inner voice. It doesn't matter what you call it -- nature, instinct, higher power. It's the ability to understand the difference between what your heart is saying and what your head is saying. I now always go with the heart. Even when my head is saying, 'Oh, but this is the rational thing; this is really what you should do.' I always go with that little... feeling. The feeling. I am where I am today because I have allowed myself to listen to my feelings.
The six-disc collection follows her impressive career, starting with "The Beginning," which outlines the early days of her show; "Heartprints," offering her most emotionally affecting interviews; "Aha!," focusing on moments that provided lessons; and the "Stars, interviews with celebrities. Everything is a highlight.

Biography -- Jeffrey Dahmer -- The Monster Within Review

(More customer reviews)A lot has changed since 1992, when Dahmer was arrested. There have been serial killers who had more victims. In DC, people feared that they could die at the gas station. All hearts have gone out to the victims of Columbine, 9/11, Virginia Tech, etc. Don't get me started on the homophobic way that the press dubbed Andrew Cunanan "Dahmer Part Two." Still, the issues presented here are still fascinating.
I give a lot of credit to Dahmer's father Lionel. One would think that most fathers of murderers wouldn't reveal their heads in public. However, Dr. Dahmer attended the trial and visited his son in prison regularly. He wrote an wonderful book about his ordeal which was turned into a mediocre, low-budget film. He is interviewed here and you can really feel his humanity, shock, and embarassment.
This documentary includes the sistah who screams in court, "Jeffrey! I hate you!!!!" It's still powerful, and makes me teary, almost two decades later. This documentary asserts what Dahmer himself did: he didn't target a race, but a body type. Still, when 12 out of 17 victims of a non-black murderer are black, I can't help if some type of oppression is being enacted. What is this nation saying to Black gay men if a dozen of them can be murdered and no one knows about it until much later?
There are some bad fictional films on Dahmer made and I prefer this documentary to them. Because Dahmer suffered from severe alcoholism, I wonder if this work would be of interest to alcoholics and their loved ones.

-They have switched to a one disc format which means
-less total episodes
-slightly slimmer special features
-Less deluxe of packaging
-they changed the order of some of the episodes (rabbot redux should have logically followed "the last one forever and ever") and they removed the christmas special from the lineup even though it came out before "rabbot redux"Overall though, the inclusion of a sequel to Terror Phone adds alot to the special features. The special features are still really good this time around even though they seem a bit slimmer. They packed ALOT of stuff onto one disc.

However, please know that the above description is incorrect as there is NO interview footage with Beyonce Knowles, Martin Scorsese, Robert DeNiro OR Goldie Hawn. However, there is some new footage in this updated version of the 2004 biography, including comments from Mary J. Blige and Alan Cummings, news footage of Liza's wedding to David Gest and one very short (maybe 5 seconds) clip of Liza commenting on Gest. While it doesn't include as much as promised in the description, Liza purists may want to replace their 2004 version with this newer, updated one.

(More customer reviews)For those of you that do not know, A&E television owns the History Channel and Biography Show, On a regular basis A&E television repackages their shows in box sets and releases them under slightly different titles or packaging, for example this show Investigative Reports Chappaquiddick, is also released under a history channel label titled simply "Chappaquiddick" it is the same exact show nothing different just in a different box from the history channel. So if a seller sends you a Chappaquiddick from the history channel you are in fact getting the A&E investigative reports show , it is the identical same thing repackaged by A&E so dont be confused the seller did not make a mistake, you can even go on the A&E site and see they own the history channel but of course the best price is here on amazon

The medical and scientific professionals are impressive and concise with very easily understood statements. The local public television station has broadcast it on a repeating basis, thereby informing much of the community of the truth about fluoridation. Because dentists and others promoting fluoridation generally have considerable community respect, it is important to counter those arguments with experts such as those on this DVD.

Palette Knife Painting DVD (2004) Review

You can see from the cover photo that the sun is shinning on the mountains from the left side, but on the tree in the foreground it is shinning from, the right. This is a huge technical error that I could not imagine any competent artist making. She does not use a reference, obviously, because the sun does not shine from two directions.
There also seem to be very rushed in a formula driven manner without any stepping back to reflect and make necessary changes. She says you can paint a good painting quickly in half hour. Maybe she can do her method in that time, but a good painting takes time to reflect and change along the way. In my opinion, she does not take the time to see what she is creating.
There are some palette knife techniques to pick up, but I would not buy this video for any other reasons. It could lead a beginner in a wrong direction and has little good information for the experienced painter.

(More customer reviews)This is a nice video overview of the life of Anne Frank produced by A&E's Biography. The people at Biography almost always do a nice job and this episode is no exception. There's not a lot of detail but there are some nice interviews with people like Otto Frank and Miep Gies. Hearing their voices adds something for those who have only read of them. This is what I think is the true power of videos like this--it allows readers to put faces and voices to names.
I think this video is also nice because is fills in the spaces around the period covered by Anne in her diary, particularly what happened after the Franks were arrested and Anne could no longer write. It is important for people who have only read the diary itself to become aware of these other events.
On the other hand, no video (even the best of them--Anne Frank Remembered) can presently compete with the quality of written material out there. There are so many excellent books covering every segment of Anne's life that it would be a shame for someone who is truly interested in Anne to limit themselves to this video.

(More customer reviews)This six Disk DVD Set is extraordinary. The Picture and Sound quality are so very good that you feel as though you are watching it in a theater. The closed captioning and Audio come in other languages besides English. It's jam packed with all sorts of extra bonus special features, plus a special series end wrap party that is a whole lot of fun. Everything you ever wanted to know about Buffy, cast, The Brilliant creator, Joss Whedon and other staff members. I not only highly recommend this Season disk set, but the other six seasons as well. Quite a bit of quality work went into the making of all seven seasons. They are a necessary buy for any Buffy fan! It's completely impossible to be anything but extremely pleased with this purchase as well as the rest of the series. The writing, acting, directing, etc... are extraordinary. This is feature film quality at it's finest, instead of the plain old TV quality that most people expect. Each episode is like watching a movie. The last five episodes build to a finale that is as amazing as any feature film that I have never before seen on television. The final episode was extraordinary, the writing, the premise was ingenious. The acting was the usual above average talent. I believe that the music that Rob Duncan provided was the icing on the cake and made the episode EPIC. It was brilliant music. Of all seven seasons this is truly my favorite. If you don't own any then by all means at least purchase season seven.

(More customer reviews)The title to this collection is misleading. This set is actually a collection of the History Channel's Wrath of God series. While it does concern unusual occurrences, the focus is more on the human element and how people have been impacted by once in a lifetime events. If you are looking for a documentary with a scientific focus this is not it. That being said, this is still a fascinating collection of stories. Some are famous events and others are not well known.
Disc 1 includes: Tornadoes:Nature's Death Spirals, Firestorm:Nature out of Control, Tsunami:Killer Waves and Blizzards:White Out.
Disc 2 includes:Hurricanes-Category 5, Nor'easters:Killer Storms and Flash Floods: Deadly Downpour
Each Episode contains several instances of the topic that include rare footage, interviews and news reports. It is done documentary style and you really get a feel of what it was like and the difficulties and triumphs of the people impacted. Many of the events had little or no warning and because of them many of our current day emergency procedures are better because of the lessons learned. If you enjoy watching the History Channel documentaries and wondered why the Wrath of God series had few episodes available, they were put into this set and given a misleading title. This is a powerful set of stories that are very entertaining and informative.

(More customer reviews)If you have ever fantasized about quitting your day job and making downhill skiing the main priority of your life, you can get a taste of that fantasy by watching this ski movie. Filled with beautiful scenery, extreme skiing, skier profiles, and a fitting soundtrack, The Waiting Game will have you feeling the anticipation for ski time.
The movie opens itself up with several skiiers sitting around a campfire telling about a ski fantasy or goal that they are waiting to have or had to wait for to happen. This theme of anticipation stories ties each scene of the film together. There are more skiiers in this film than should be listed in an article, with each one having their own action scene in a beautiful and famed ski location.
The film takes the viewer to several Utah locations, Haines and Valdez Alaska, and Jackson, Wyoming. Shots from the road travel are included, giving a sense of what the travel time must be like. The filmmakers also include some of each ski towns' scenic backdrop other than it's ski slopes. For example, the port of Valdez is shown before the Alaska ski scenes.
The soundtrack adds to the mood of each ski scene. Without music, an adrenaline rush trip down a slope would look like peaceful lines being drawn on a nice snowy background of your tv. The soundtrack of this film effectively helps the viewer to step into the mindset of the skier on screen.
Narration of the thoughts and reflections of these different people who have dedicated their lives to skiing peppers throughout the movie. Interview footage of Bill Briggs, the legendary Jackson Hole skiier who was the first to ski the Grand Tetons in 1971, shows that for those who make this lifestyle choice, it will be a choice without regret.
Briggs also plays his banjo and sings about skiing in the opening campfire scene. This turns into one of the films drawbacks. Skiiers are telling about what they are or have waited for at the same time, so you can't really understand Briggs or the skiiers.
The Waiting Game comes with a second disc of special features, including a music video of Briggs song. The video doesn't have the skiiers talking, so at least you get the opportunity to hear just the song. There is also an action only version of the film. My favorite on the second disc was the history of heliskiing in Alaska's Chugach mountains. A few product and company promos are included on the second disc. Overall the second disc really does add to the set - it isn't just a few things thrown together to make a set without adding anything worthy of viewing.
I am giving this film a four out of five. I am glad I took the time to check it out from my local library and watch it.

(More customer reviews)"The Andrea Yates Story" is very well done by Bill Curtis. However, its horrible story of how postpartum psychosis ended the lives of five beautiful children is extremely difficult to watch. (Andrea claimed she was convinced Satan was within her, and drowning the children would send them to Heaven instead of becoming condemned to Hell because of her.) The value in watching this video is that it helps others to recognize the dangers and hopefully prevent repeats.
Andrea had become extremely withdrawn after the birth of her fourth child, attempted suicide twice, and was hospitalized for three weeks. The family was isolated from most neighbors - even more than most because of home schooling. Andrea would sometimes stop taking her medications - without telling the doctor.
Meanwhile, voices within her told Andrea that she was a failure as a mother; doctors pointed out that having another child would like bring a relapse. However, "trusting God," and believing "each child is a blessing" her husband paid Andrea's doctors' no mind.
A close friend warned Andrea's husband that Andrea was acting strange towards the children after the birth of their fifth child, and she degenerated quickly even further after the death of her father. Hospitalized another 12 days; new doctor didn't contact Andrea's former physician, and she was released again in only ten days. Three weeks later her medications were reduced, allowing Andrea to become somewhat more active, but with less interaction with her children.
Andrea's mother-in-law began coming over each day to help out - an hour after Andrea's husband left for work. That was all it took for the tragedy to occur.

if you are a beginner who wants to make a decent portrait (without investing much work or time to gain basic painting experience) and you have strong drawing skills (or even a projector) this video will show you how to put a picture together using what i call the ''coloring book method'' : make a detailed charcoal pencil drawing, fix the drawing and prepare a limited selection of colors. now pick the correct 'crayon' for a given shape and fill it with that color. repeat the last step until the ''patchwork of colors'' (his words) is finished
an additional warning for beginners : consider learning to sketch with paint rather than being sidetracked into building a new, separate skill such as drawing - unless you want to. i should also say that this is probably not a video which will take you up a notch in skill ... not that there's anything wrong with that ; Bill Alexander and Bob Ross have gotten many, many people started, after all. but the video stops short of teaching beginners automatic identification of areas where color and value changes can be anticipated, how to implement those nuances in paint, as well as many other basic portrait skills
for an advanced beginner or intermediate painter, given the above, this video will probably not help you advance in skill either, as the method (''trick'' is probably more accurate than ''technique'') demonstrated is simply too formulaic (take a look at the cover photo and tell me your opinion of how well this ''technique'' works)
what this video does, it does well : if you need to make an oil portrait and have no time to waste learning how to make informed color choices or develop sketching skills with oils and brush, this sure-fire method is perfect. otherwise you should be reminded that bad habits are easy to pick up and difficult, if not impossible, to break later
at least you now know how to decide if this video is worth your time

(More customer reviews)I've come to be very skeptical of History Channel programming and I'll explain more later, but as for this .... I was very impressed. This DVD is an overview specific to Washington's military life as a British colonial and later as the General of the Continental Army. It is well done and very interesting.
I was originally skeptical because I've seen some programming from the History Channel where the politics of the program creator, presenter seemed to me to be front and center in slanderous and misinforming ways. Most recently, I watched the "founding fathers" and "founding brothers" History Channel DVDs. Do not waste your time on those. I don't think the Karl Marx fan club could have made a worse presentation of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. It was a ridiculous assault disguised in the form of a historical production. Seriously biased against small government Jefferson and Madison and drooooling over big government, American Monarchy advocating Hamilton. Garbage.

(More customer reviews)The release of "Frasier: Season 10" is a pleasure in itself simply because it allows the "Frasier" fan to complete their collection. Despite being only the penultimate season of the show, its successor season 11 was released before several of its forerunners - most probably due to the hype at the time that it was to be the last ever year of "Frasier".
Season 10 is yet another ingenious run of episodes. It is the season in which the show-makers pick up the pace again after slightly flatter 8th and 9th years. The anticipation that washed consistently throughout seasons 1-7, charting the saga of Daphne and Niles, which finally came to a head in the season 7 finale/8 opening, left the "Frasier" audience satisfied to see the pair together at last; and although it was different, interesting and enjoyable to watch the couple glide into their newfound relationship, the show lost a touch of its sparkle.
The 10th season steps things up again, as "Frasier" heads towards the looming climax, just 2 years away. It concentrates on being funny above all else and allows itself several one-off stories that only need to last the duration of a single episode but which are brilliant in themselves: "Enemy At The Gate" sees Frasier stand up for his rights, when he refuses to pay the $2 fee that is incurred when he enters a parking garage only to change his mind and attempt to exit again; "We Two Kings", the Christmas episode, sees the Crane brothers battle it out over who should host the holidays, resulting in Martin making the decision to work on Christmas Day; "Door Jam" is the wonderful episode in which Niles and Frasier join a ridiculously decadent health spa, only to become obsessed with their desire to enjoy the privileges of the most exclusive members; "Roe To Perdition" is another "Door Jam-esque" encounter, with its carefree Frasier/Niles craziness (this time, they get involved in the distribution of illegally imported caviar); "Daphne Does Dinner" sees Daphne and Frasier's attempts to muster up an event in which Niles plans to unveil a newly acquired painting, which, unbeknown to him, Alice has drawn on; and "Fathers And Sons" witnesses Roz convinced that Frasier and Niles' mother's ex-colleague is actually their real father.
Season 10 has its steadier continual plots too - each equally as entertaining. It begins with Niles and Daphne finally tying the knot - three times! In order to have the wedding they want, the couple get married in secret, only to have to act out a second marriage to please Frasier and Martin (who express that they would be distraught if the pair were ever to get married without them there to see it). However, when Daphne's mother insists that her daughter be wed in a church, a third fake-wedding must be performed.
Other plots involve the slightly more serious situation in which Niles has to undergo heart surgery, and Frasier's love/hate interest of the season, Julia (played perfectly by Felicity Huffman), whose presence causes a sexual harassment case at KACL, scandal with Frasier's accountant and a blazing dispute between Frasier and Roz, culminating in Roz demanding Frasier to choose between her and Julia in the Season Finale.
And this is where Season 10 leaves us...but fortunately we have Season 11 to go to immediately, as the release of "Frasier: Season 10" marks the final part of the collection to be made available on DVD.
Proving to be a nice run-up to the forthcoming end of "Frasier", the 10th season combines, as usual, witty writing with superb acting. It brings along new characters, provoking enjoyable stories, whilst developing the established regulars even further than its previous 9 years has done already. Daphne and Niles' relationship evolves even more, both endearingly and humorously, whilst we witness more of Frasier's unvarying closeness to his brother, and the difficulty he faces when a contemptible lover clashes with his best friend. Ever-constant is the comedy, provided largely by classic "Frasier" ingredients - misunderstanding, the continuous Frasier/Niles battle to be elite, and the exaggeration of the characters' already extravagant and embellished personalities...including the ever-winning Eddie the dog.
Despite not being the final season, season 10 is an enchanting finishing piece of the "Frasier" puzzle, flawlessly embodying the nature of an established, intelligent and successful sitcom in its golden years.

This movie also shows the fake-loyalties associated with working with the mafia, after the gambino family found out how much money was really stolen they decided they wanted it all! Jimmy really seemed to care about his crew, a quality not often seen in the mob, too bad they all had to get wacked out!! All in all a nice story line on a different take as to what happened after luftansa, a must have if you collect mafia movies....

My son is almost two and he adores Blue and Steve and all their friends. This video kept him interested. Of course, he is too young to understand about missing a friend, but he knows about meeting new friends.

Boondocks : Season 1 (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)Before I start the review, I'd like to tell anyone who's a fan of this show to BUY THE COMIC COLLECTIONS. They're even better than the show (which I love), and if this show introduced you to the Boondocks, then you should definately explore the comics that the show is based on.
The Boondocks might just be the best show on TV. First of all, it has some great, memorable characters. Huey Freeman, the 10 year old revolutionary that listens to too much Public Enemy...His younger brother, Riley, who is fascinated by gangsta rap, guns, and bling...Grandad, the guardian of the two boys, who's slightly disconnected from the modern times, but has enough sense to be the occasional voice of reason...Tom Dubois (his name is a play on "uncle tom"), his (white) wife, and his confused daughter, Jasmine, who are the Freeman's neighbors...Uncle Ruckus, the self-hating, caucasian loving black man...Ed Wuncler, the owner of almost all of Woodcrest...His grandson, Ed III, and Gin Rummy; 2 crazy crime obsessed white characters played brilliantly by Charlie Murphy & Samuel L. Jackson...And more
Another reason the show is so great is because it touches on interesting and controversial subject matters. It's a show that can really make you think - about social issues, religion, race, relationships, business, war, politics, and just society in general. Episodes about the R. Kelly trial, Martin Luther King Jr. coming out of a coma, ect., all show that there is no place Aaron McGruder (creator of the Boondocks) isn't willing to go. But the key here is EXECUTION. All of the episodes are executed extremely well. A lot of the idea's they've used on The Boondocks could have turned out to be really stupid episodes, but they do a great job at executing ideas. And lastly, the show is just FUNNY. Every episode makes you laugh at one point of another. That, and the fact that the show is incredibly smart and witty, are what truly make this one of the best shows on TV.
Even with all of that going for it, the music is the x-factor that makes this show even more appealing to me. From the dope opening track, to the constant MF Doom and Dangerdoom tracks being played during the show/promos (I remember most of the promos having the instrumental of 'Bada Bing' from the Danger Doom album in the background), the music sets an incredible tone for the show. Even if you're not a huge fan of MF Doom & Danger Mouse like I am, you should still appreciate the music used here.
Episodes From Season 1:
1. Garden Party - 8/10 - The Freemans are invited to a party at Ed Wunclers house. This one really had me hungry for more. It wasn't the greatest episode, but parts of it indicated that this show had the potential to be great.
Quotable: Riley: Man, I really liked that house. Oh well. I shot a n****!
2. The Trial Of R. Kelly - 10/10 - Riley goes to R. Kelly's trial to defend one of his favorite artists. This is where the series really started to take off. Tons of great moments, and hysterical lines.

4. Grandad's Fight - 8.5/10 - Grandad gets into a fight with a blind man. I didn't like this one as much as most people, but it's still a VERY funny episode. The whole "n**** moment" thing was hysterical.

Riley: I will.
Tom: Right, well, Riley will.
5. A Date With A Health Inspector - 10/10 - Huey & Riley need to catch the "xbox killer" to get Tom out of jail. Probably my favorite Boondocks episode. The whole dropping the soap thing, and all the scenes with Ed II and Rummy make this a classic episode.
Quotable: Rummy: Well no we ain't find none. But I always say the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.
Riley: What?
Rummy: Simply because you don't have evidence that something does exist does not mean you have evidence of something that doesn't exist.

6. The Story Of Gangstalicious - 10/10 - Riley learns that his favorite gangsta rapper isn't really a 'gangsta'...Definately one of the best episodes, and we can all learn a little lesson from this about CERTAIN rappers

7. A Huey Freeman Christmas - 9.5/10 - Riley tries to kill Santa, and Huey puts on the school christmas play, which he has titled 'The Adventures Of Black Jesus'. VERY Funny episode, featuring Quincy Jones as himself.

8. The Real - 9/10 - The whole episode is a spoof on reality shows (Pimp My Ride, The Real World, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, etc.), and Huey is paranoid that a government agent is following him. Another great episode, featuring Xzibit as himself.
Quoatable: Grandad: So you're saying that the car stops, but the rims keep spinning? That's amazing!
9. Return Of The King - 9.5/10 - Dr. Matin Luther King Jr. comes out of a coma to discover how much things have changed after 30 years. This episode really has a great message, and it's a shame to me that Al Sharpton was so against it. If you actually paid attention to the episode, it wasnt offensive to MLK in ANY way.
Quotable: Dr. King: Oh, snap. No, they didn't. A boneless rib sandwich. What will they think of next? I know I shouldn't eat these. But they're for a limited time only.
10. The Itis - 10/10 - Grandad gets his own soul food restaurant, but the customers get addicted. This is another one of my favorite episodes.
Quotable: Riley: Whoa. This is what crack must feel like.
11. Let's Nab Oprah - 9/10 - The return of Ed III and Gin Rummy. Not as good as 'A Date With The Health Inspector', but still great.
Quotable: Huey: (narrating) Ed and Rummy kidnapped Bill Cosby... But, he was really annoying. So they put him back 15 minutes later.
12. Riley Wuz Here - 9/10 - Great episode, about graffiti, art and expression, with Huey experimenting on the effect of black television. The art teacher character is more than a bit weird...but I loved the message, and the ending of the episode.
Quotable: Riley: Don't tell Grandad I left.
Huey: (blankly staring at BET) We got any grape soda?
Riley: ...N****, you stupid.
13. Wingmen - 9/10 - Has a great message about friendship, companionship, and love. Not to mention, its very funny.

Grandad: I ain't got all day, boy. Be deep
14. The Block Is Hot - The only Boondocks episode I didnt get to see...I'll update the review with feedback on it when I get the DVD (or catch the episode on adult swim)
15. Passion Of The Ruckus - 9/10 - Ruckus becomes a reverend, spreading the word of white jesus. This was a great episode to end the season with, and had a great ending...Can't wait for season 2
Quotable: Grandad: "You aint a Jehova Witness now, are you? 'Cause I'm in the Jehova Witness Protection Program.
The biggest problem I had with the show was that it didn't include maybe my favorite character from the comics, Caesar. Caesar becomes Huey's best friend when he moves to Woodcrest in the comics, and he's featured in most of the Boondocks comic strips. I figure (and hope) Caesar will be introduced next season, but thats pretty much the only beef I could find with this show. I'll be sure to pick this up the day it's released, and I would highly reccomend you do the same.

It makes no moral judgement about weather marijuana should be legalized or not, it just presnets the facts about what it can do to your body and mind. Don't buy into the pro-drug hype these druggies are pushing. Buy a professional and well researched video like this one and learn the real truth.

(More customer reviews)The show itself is of course magnificent for the most part. Innovative, exciting and very well acted. A landmark in modern TV drama, despite a brief drop -off in quality in some of the late afternoon episodes. The DVD picture quality is wonderfully sharp, and the sound is nicely crisp.
Important to note if you are buying this package having not seen the show before (having heard about it from others but too late to join in watching it on TV) that there are spoilers all over the presentation. the enclosed booklet includes short summaries of every episode and not much else, so don't look at it until you've seen the whole show. Similarly the menus feature clips from the show which is nice to watch if you aren't worried about information being given away, as the clips on the menu for each disc tend to reveal major plot points.
Also, the DVD extras are actually pretty poor. The alternative ending is dull and obviously only shot to keep the true ending secret. The teaser for season 2 comprises only Kiefer Sutherland talking in very vague terms about the general concept of 24, with no real information about the second series.
Worst of all is the fact that the footage on the discs is only the footage that was originally broadcast IN THE US. In the UK the broadcast footage included an extra couple of minutes for each of the episodes 7pm - 12pm. This footage contained scenes that was cut from the US broadcast for adverts, whereas in the UK 24 was shown on the BBC where there are no adverts.
These scenes ranged from nice additions to important points: one cut scene had a major impact on the crucial events in the final episode and another even greatly improved the climactic battle between Jack and the bad guys.
Fox haven't included this footage on the DVD versions in either the UK or the US, meaning that us poor Brits have scenes that we miss and this has led to calls for a recall and replacement with the full footage. For the US viewer, this is actually worse, in that you are never going to see these great scenes. There are no running time issues on DVD, unlike on TV, so why not let those fans willing to pay for the box set have bonus footage integrated into their box sets?
Bizarrely, this doesn't affect the VHS British release of 24, only the DVD, so if you want those extra scenes you'll need a PAL compatible TV and VCR.
Why not drop Fox an email congratulating them on making such a great show and asking for them to include the full footage as was broadcast on the BBC?

(More customer reviews)I purchased this DVD after finishing the book "Crime of the Century" by Hal Higdon. My one and and only complaint with the book is there were no photo sections included. For me, this made it difficult to visualize the "characters". In buying the DVD I was hoping to get a better picture of Leopold and Loeb as well as Bobby Franks and the families of all 3 boys. I definitely got that! The DVD started with a brief set up describing Chicago of the 1920's and the Kenwood neighborhood where all 3 boys lived. It spent a fair amount of time discussing the crime itself, the trial and Leopold and Loeb's lives after sentencing. I especially liked that they used very little reenactments but focused more on interviews with Hal Higdon and others. It was very interesting to hear from the boy (now an elderly man) who was considered as a victim before Bobby Franks was chosen. These interviews were mingled heavily with photographs of the principals as well as locations as they appeared in that era. After purchasing, but before receiving, the DVD I found that it is on youtube in its entirety. As with similar youtube videos, it is broken into 4 parts and the video quality is poor. I watched it and the DVD when it arrived and I'm glad that I bought the DVD.

The Mockumentary style and incredible animation keep the story fresh, funny and amazing to look at! Even if your not a fan of animated films, this one may change your mind. (More customer reviews)This DVD summarizes the recovery of 4 WWII crashed aircraft, with the intent of restoring and displaying the results.
The first location was a Greenland P-38 that crashed July of 1942 and was buried 270 feet under subsequent snow and ice (2 month recovery effort, followed by ten years of restoration that allowed the plane to fly again. Eleven prior efforts had failed; key was creating holes down to the airplane via using hot water under high pressure.
The second was a New Guinea P-61 Night Fighter that crashed in 1941. This aircraft was entangled and covered by subsequent vegetative growth; one of the local guides died after being bitten by a deadly snake. After six years and six expedition the plane was successfully removed, and is still under restoration.
The third was a B-24D Liberator bomber that crashed in the Aleutian Islands in 1943, and then recovered by a military crew in 1995. Their budget did not permit use of a helicopter, and considerable human effort was required instead. After the recovery it was restored over the next ten years, and now is one of 24 in restored condition.
Last was a sunken (20 stories down) German Focke-Wulfe fighter near Bergen, Norway that was recovered just recently after an 18-month effort.
Considerable skill and expense was required in each instance - a testimony to the efforts of those involved and mute evidence to a failure to preserve earlier specimens when they were commonplace.

John Mellencamp (JM) is incredibly funny, comfortable, free to openly talk on a variety of subjects and plays, "Our Country" & "Freedom's Road" on an acoustic guitar, great acoustic versions of these songs! A must DVD for JM's fans!

I have forever loved all that the Hulk represents and how he rolls. But he about lost his mind in this movie! I loved it!!! Beyond that, good plot, beautiful fantasy cartoon babes abound, and as a Marine, I appreciated how Captain America and the military were portrayed as they went into battle against Nazis and space aliens in WWII. C,mon...space aliens, dream babes, Nazis, and the Hulk...what're you waiting for? Relax the literary critic inside you and have some fun. Go. Rent.

(More customer reviews)Healthily into its third season, it's only now that BEN 10's freshman year is finally coming out in dvd in all its thirteen episode glory. Debuting in December 27, 2005 on the Cartoon Network, BEN 10 was an immediate hit with the fans as the show, boasting a very cool concept, proved to be fun and eminently watchable. Plus, that theme song rocks.
The premise: Ordinary 10 year old Ben Tennyson comes upon a mysterious alien artifact (resembling a wristwatch) which grants him temporary access to the forms of ten alien species, each of whom is inherently imbued with its own superhuman ability. In the constant company of his wise and benign grandfather Max (who hints of an enigmatic past, proving that being a "plumber" is more exciting than one would think) and his clever, sassy cousin Gwen (who he initially dislikes), Ben, early on, learns his lessons as he heroically attempts to abide by the famous Spidey quote: "With great power comes great responsibility." But his attempts to live up to that credo are at constant odds with his more carefree and mischievous pre-adolescent tendencies. Accordingly, he strives to use his new-found super powers to nab villains, all the while keeping at bay the maurauding alien, octopus-faced Vilgax, who will stop at nothing to own the Omnitrix. But, as civic minded as he has become, that doesn't mean that young Ben can't have any fun...
The hook, of course, is that this young, normal kid all of a sudden gains and gets to play with the powers of ten formidable alien beings. Part of the fun is in witnessing Ben discover all the diverse forms (some of which are strange and kinda gross, and one, Ghostfreak, even really unnerving) he comes to inhabit and his varying reactions to 'em. These ten beings are rendered as visually striking and colorful, my two personal favorites being Heatblast and Upgrade. And, oh, yeah, for those who were wondering, these ten aliens whose shapes and abilities Ben can borrow, in no particular order, are: Upgrade (a biomechanical being who can integrate itself into any machine and instantly improve upon or "upgrade" it), Four Arms (a bruising, 12-foot-tall, four-armed alien with awesome strength), Heatblast (an incendiary individual whose race dwells on a sun), Diamondhead (the near invulnerable, crystalline being), XLR8 (capable of immense super speed), Ripjaws (the aquatic alien), Grey Matter (the miniscule alien, standing at 5" tall), Ghostfreak (creepy and spectre-like), Stinkfly (a winged insectoid alien), and Wildmutt (a quilled, bestial creature).
And, now, for the self-righteous, holier-than-thou part of the review: this show is perfectly catered for our impressionable young 'uns. With the expected, patented family values, as well as the mainstay credo of trying to do the right thing, being wholesomely espoused throughout the episodes (and in a non-sanctimonious way), kids should find themselves entertained as they are simultaneously taught the classic, goody-two-shoes virtues. The interactions among Ben, Grandpa Max, and Gwen are nicely portrayed as his supportive gramps and his more mature cousin strive to keep the impulsive Ben on the proper path (because Ben does lose it and act out every now and then).
Its cartoony animation is well suited to BEN 10, meshing with the show's sensibilities. This series is meant to be light, innocent, and fun-filled, in spite of all the heavy sci-fi action, and these qualities are perfectly conveyed by the clean lines and caricatured look. Young kids certainly wouldn't mind, and Ben's otherworldly personas are depicted in a nifty and energetic enough manner. The look and style of BEN 10, actually, leans towards the anime style and recalls TEEN TITANS to mind. I kinda like it.
Now, the minuses. Other than the very alluring hook of being ten different superheroes, there's really nothing new about this series. One improvement I can think of is that this show would be better served with more cohesion and more episodic continuity. Multi-part episodes would be very welcome. As it is right now, the formulaic plot has the Tennyson family travelling to some destination, only to encounter the supervillain flavor-of-the-week (although several of these baddies are sicced on by the series's main villain, Vilgax). Don't get me wrong, there is some character development and these are pretty cool stand alone episodes, but BEN 10 seemingly lacks that certain focus; and the show's story arc and plot progression are developing too slowly for my taste. But, hey, that doesn't mean I'm gonna stop watching this series. When you get to the nitty-gritty, BEN 10 is just too much fun to miss out. Not to mention, Seasons 2 and 3 do offer up several great episodes ("Gwen 10" and "Ben 10,000," to name but two).
By the way, from what I've read on Wikipedia, the Special Features will include several episode commentaries, interviews with the showmakers, a creator drawing lesson, and a collectible poster.

"And Then There Were Ten" (episode one) - On a summer cross-country trip via motorhome with his Grandpa Max and his disliked cousin Gwen, Ben Tennyson ends up with the powerful Omnitrix. But, intergalactic conqueror Vilgax is intent on gaining possession of the Omnitrix and sends his robots to get it.
"Washington B.C." (episode two) - Ben goes up against Dr. Animo, a loony but brilliant scientist who created the Transmodulator, an invention which enlarges and distorts normal animals into gigantic, dangerous beasts.
"The Krakken" (episode three) - While camping out and taking a swim in a lake, Ben bumps into a sea monster.
"Permanent Retirement" (episode four) - In a homage to (or a blatant rip off of) INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, Ben, Max, and Gwen visit Aunt Vera's tiny town and discover that the residents are exhibiting very weird behavior.
"Hunted" (episode five) - Vilgax sends three alien bounty hunters (Kraab, SixSix, and Hoverboard) after Ben's Omnitrix.
"Tourist Trap" (episode six) - Feeling let down and bitterly bored with the tourist town of Sparksville and its main attraction of a giant ball of rubber bands, Max decides to play a prank but, instead, unleashes an electrical being called the Megawhatt.
"Kevin 11" (episode seven) - Ben meets and hangs out with the psychotic, 11-year-old Kevin, who has the power to absorb energy. When Kevin learns of Ben's Omnitrix powers, he begins to absorb those.
"The Alliance" (episode eight) - Ben goes up against an ornery female armored car robber who had been converted into a destructive alien cyborg named Rojo.
"Last Laugh" (episode nine) - We find out that Ben is afraid of clowns, which sucks for him because the main baddie in this episode is an evil, parasitic clown named Zombozo.
"Lucky Girl" (episode ten) - When Ben beats the wicked magician Hex, he takes from him a magical charm as a souvenir and offers it to Gwen. Gwen discovers that the charm has the power of incredible luck and becomes a superhero herself, called Lucky Girl. But, there's no such thing as a free lunch, and a prize must be paid for all of Gwen's fortuitousness...
"A Small Problem" (episode eleven) - When there appears to be a glitch with the Omnitrix, Ben pounds the device in an attempt to activate it and ends up trapped in the form of the 5" tall Grey Matter. An alien-obssessed man named Howell Wayneright captures him and presents him to the Organization, a clandestine group aiming to collect alien technology for its own purposes.
"Side Effects" (episode twelve) - When Ben catches a cold, it has the side effect of weakening his powerful alter-egos; it's bad timing as he has to face off against an insect-controlling madman, who threatens the city with nuclear devastation.
"Secrets" (episode thirteen) - It's the head alien, Vilgax himself, versus Ben 10. Plus, we get a first look at the underground facility beneath Mount Rushmore, which is the HQ of Grandpa Max's former covert and X-Files-like goverment organization.

(More customer reviews)This look at the intriguing life of the Mad Monk, Rasputin, is informed by information from the long-missing Rasputin Files which emerged in 1995. In 1917, the Russian provisional government had launched the ''Extraordinary Commission of Inquiry for the Investigation of Illegal Acts by Ministers and Other Responsible Persons of the Czarist Regime," the 13th volume of which was never published and was presumed lost until a summary of it appeared in 1964. That 13th volume, now known as the Rasputin File, turned up at auction in 1995; it contained the transcripts of interviews and interrogations conducted into the influence of "dark forces" behind the czar - and, as such, gives us added insight into Rasputin's life, death, and influence over Nicholas II and his family.
The documents in the Rasputin File help answer several questions, one being the manner in which Rasputin was initially introduced to Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra; it also sheds new light on his controversial death. The story has always been that Rasputin was poisoned, then shot, then beaten and kicked and thrown into a river (where he drowned), but at least one researcher interviewed here suggests that the real story is somewhat less dramatic. The information in the Rasputin Files also does much to put to rest any suspicions of an affair between Rasputin and the Czarina. Clearly, it was Rasputin's uncanny ability to heal the czar's only son, the sole heir to the throne, which tied him so closely to Alexandra. Young Alexis suffered from hemophilia, and Rasputin was able to save his life on several occasions over the space of ten years - even from afar, after having been temporarily banished by the czar in wake of his embarrassing behavior. As this documentary makes clear, no one really knows how Rasputin was able to do this. It goes a long way toward explaining how Rasputin achieved and maintained such a strong influence over the czar and his family, even as the public increasingly looked upon the man as a primary source of all their troubles.
The True Story of Rasputin is an excellent look at Rasputin's life from his boyhood in Siberia to his infamous murder in St. Petersburg, bursting several myths along the way. It also affords the viewer useful new insight into the vulnerable state of mind of Alexandra and the way in which this might have been exploited by Rasputin. What I found most interesting, however (apart from descriptions of Rasputin's shockingly lewd public behavior) was the speculation that the historical account of Rasputin's death may contain some degree of prevarication. There's no doubt that the man was difficult to kill (in 1914, he had been viciously stabbed - to the point that his intestines were exposed - by a woman thinking he was the Anti-Christ), but there is at least a hint of evidence that could rule out the use of poison in the assassination attempt.
Overall, this is a very informative documentary, especially insomuch as it touches upon Rasputin's life from his earliest days to his ignominious end. It's always difficult to separate fact from fiction when examining the life of Russia's Mad Monk, but this documentary does a particularly good job of doing just that. Making use of the new information found in the rediscovered Rasputin Secret Police file, The True Story of Rasputin goes a long way to earning its title.

I thought if she saw that Franklin was also a little nervous about going to school and that he actually liked school and had fun with his friends that it might make her warm up to the idea. It's a sweet video depicting the innocence of childhood and stressing how important friends are.

While having a book or two on crocheting is certainly helpful, a newbie like myself found this DVD to be the most valuable in terms of actually learning basic stitches. The close-ups of Melissa's hands make it easy to see exactly what she is doing. Once you get the basics down, the written directions in books are much easier to understand. I started with the DVD, practiced my stitches and then went with a pattern in one of my books.
If you cannot afford a DVD, check out YouTube. There are a couple of crochet veterans who have made their own homemade tutorials. :o)

(More customer reviews)Live At Wetlands, N.Y.C. seems to fit well with the rest of the Dolemite Collection in that it is a rambling mess. The whole thing seems to be shot in a late 80's, early 90's cheap video format. It has that low rent look about it, which is fine, it gives it character. The "Wetlands" club appears to be no bigger than a two car garage, which they frequently show the crowd who seems to be uninterested in what is going on. They occasionally gyrate, clap or barely cheer. Moore's hype man goes on and on for the first 5 minutes about how Moore is "The World's Most Versatile Entertainer". When Moore takes the stage all he does is spew out references to how great his genitalia is, and about all the women he has conquered. When he doesn't have a 2nd grade type rhyme come to mind about his privates; he starts singing his own theme song which seems to be mostly inaudible, something about "..the bad man Dolemite." The "songs" he sings are just as bad as the jokes, I for sure wouldn't call it Blues. Just a loose collection of words and phrases that do not make much/any sense. At one point he states he doesn't even remember all the words to his own songs. He also claims this is him restarting his career which died 35 years ago, but then all he does is make reference to the other films in the Dolomite Collection and 40 year old recycled jokes.
Don't you need new material to re-launch a career? Moore claims he didn't even know this was being video taped and begins to insult the cameraman with bad jokes. Then half way through the show turns into an infomercial where Moore attempts to sell "Dolomite Back scratchers" for $3 each, at which time he demonstrates by scratching his buttocks with one. He then sings the rest of his "songs" while holding his microphone and back scratcher, until finally retiring to his merchandising table with t-shirts emblazoned with his face and Dolemite back scratchers.. My final recommendation is to stay clear of this title unless you are a hardcore Rudy Ray Moore fan or are trying to complete the Dolemite Collection to have as a conversation piece.

(More customer reviews)Although this subject is getting dated and young people really know very little about it, many of us who were around at the time have problems with the official line of what really happened in Dealey Plaza in 1963. Bill Kurtis does a very good job of looking at some of the main controversial issues remaining - the number of shots fired, the magic bullet theory, the puzzling autopsy records given to the Kennedy family and the conspiracy theories. Bill Kurtis seems to be one of the most believable journalists on TV, to me anyway. He doesn't skip past any issue quickly, but takes the time to analyze it in depth. He also seeks opposing views and never relies on one expert only, if possible.
He reveals in this video that an acoustic study sponsored by the US government over a decade after the assassination found that there must have been more than 3 shots fired - they said 4. This was largely based on a recording of a motorcycle radio which was stuck in the "on" position during the shooting. In fact, Kurtis's acoustic expert says there were 5 shots. How many people know that both the Warren Commission and this acoustic study were both accepted by the US Government, even though they disagree on the number of shots fired and therefore whether a conspiracy was involved?!
As the dust settles, Kurtis answers some questions and opens up other issues, like the skull X-ray that seems to show solid bone instead of a hole in the skull. Was it altered?
We may never know what actually happened that day, but Bill Kurtis has done his best to shine some light on this dark corner of history.

(More customer reviews)24 Season Four has Jack facing mid-eastern extremists. The plot is solid (as is the acting) and the action is just plain awesome. As common to 24 however, there are a lot of things that happen that are quite frustrating :p. But really this is a great season of 24 and worth watching whether you are a fan or not.
On a side note, I got my slim pack of Season 4 at a sale at an electonics store, I can't believe the ridiculous price Amazon is asking for these slim packs online.

(More customer reviews)This is our favorite blues clues video. My daughter loves the big words and loves using them ,this video definitely promotes her vocabulary, she now says things like "what an enormous ball".
Its also great for teaching basic reading skills and getting familiar with words. The video follows the same basic scenario all the blues clues videos follow, where blue leaves clues for Steve to figure out.

Walton in the interview explains that his shyness and stuttering shielded him from people for many years. Others would do the talking for him. This by the way explains the sense fans had of his being silent and surly and somehow mysteriously problematic. Walton tells how he met the sportscaster Marty Glickman who took him aside and told him that he had to overcome his lack of speech problem. Glickman told him how to create a working program to do this, the same way his basketball coach constructed a working program for how to win at basketball games. Walton did as Glickman asked, overcame his stuttering and became , what he is at the time of the interview, a professional sports broadcast.
Much of the interview is devoted to talking basketball. Fans should enjoy it.
