Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Complete Season Three (2010) Review

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Complete Season Three (2010)
Average Reviews:

My 6 1/2 year old son has gotten me helplessly addicted to the Clone Wars. We breathlessly anticipated the premier of Season 3, and boy, were we not disappointed! The episodes where (possible SPOILER?!) Darth Sidious orders Ventress to be assassinated were an awesome little interlude in the series. You actually find yourself rooting for Ventress in her quest to stay alive and exact revenge on Dooku for the betrayal. 'Padawan Lost' and the following episode, 'Wookiee Hunt', were an incredible way to end the season. The appearance of Chewbacca was so awesome, and a nice nod to us old school fans.
What I like about the series is that, even though there is some violence depicted, it is not gratuitous. I feel that this show somewhat realistically shows what happens in a war. My son is taught lessons on the importance of honor, peace, and doing the right thing. Of course I, as his parent, strive to teach him these things myself, but it doesn't hurt to have Captain Rex, Commander Cody, Obi-Wan, and yes, even Anakin (pre-Darth Vader, of course) backing me up! I also really appreciate the emphasis put on 'girls can kick butt, too'. In the vein of Princess Leia, Ahsoka and Padme' are cool chicks who don't just sit around, waiting to be rescued. All in all, this series is amazing, and I highly recommend it. Being able to bond with my son over something we both really enjoy is always a great thing. Can't wait for season 4 to start already!

How the Flintstones Saved Christmas Review

How the Flintstones Saved Christmas
Average Reviews:

Fred as Santa - you knew it had to happen with that belly! A Christmas holiday show that I enjoy watching regularly as a part of my Christmas Eve ritual. The simplistic story is easy to understand for children and enjoyable for adults that have fond childhood memories of 'The Flintstones' as well. When Fred plays a department store Santa his performance is so convincing that some elves come forward to recruit him in order to save Christmas! There's very little of the normal slapstick we see in these animated shows but there are still the usual laughs and what's more important Fred actually does something right - though the real Santa has to bail him out in the end. A Christmas tradition that "Baby-boomers" can pass on to their children and hope they continue.

Road Runner & Wile E Coyote: Looney Tunes, Chariots of Fur (1958) Review

Road Runner and Wile E Coyote: Looney Tunes, Chariots of Fur (1958)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great collection of Looney Tunes made by The Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. It includes the brand new cartoon, CHARIOTS OF FUR (1994) which suprisingly turned out to be a great cartoon, unlike CARROTBLANCA. This collection also includes 5 more cartoons. This includes OPERATION RABBIT (1951), one of five cartoons made with Bugs Bunny and Wile E. Coyote. Interestingly, this was made before BEEP, BEEP (1952), the second Road Runner cartoon ever. It basically uses the Coyote from FAST AND FURRY-OUS (1949). READY, WOOLEN, AND ABLE (1960) is the best cartoon starring Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheep Dog. I guess this is on this tape because Ralph Wolf is a form of Wile E. BEEP BEEP & HOOK, LINE, AND STINKER (1958) are also great cartoons. ZIP 'N' SNORT (1961) is the second best Road Runner cartoon ever, next to TO BEEP OR NOT TO BEEP (1963) of course. The only complaint I have is that other than the brand new cartoon, the other five are on ROAD RUNNER VS. WILE E. COYOTE: THE CLASSIC CHASE. But if you want ... better quality, buy this!

World Wrestling Network Presents: FIP - Payback (2007) Review

World Wrestling Network Presents: FIP - Payback (2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
On different wrestling websites the FIP series have gotten very good reviews so I have been excited to see them. The first one I saw was the usual suspect which was awful. It was slow moving, boring, and seemed a bit random. I think a big downside is they do very little talking and we don't have announcers explaining the heat or why they are battling. Some of the matches in both DVD's dragged on and the matches where very slow.
This DVD I was hoping it would be better. This was nearly the same no reason why guys where battling, which doesn't get me into the match as well as I could be. Also we only see about 50 people in the stands it seems dead during most of the matches.
The first 4 matches where awful, slow moving, boring, I couldn't wait till they where over. Grade D
The 3 way was somewhat entertaining; we saw some high spots and the matches had a decent pace to it. This wasn't by any means an amazing or great match but by far the best I have seen over 4 hours of FIP footage. Grade C+
Samoa Joe vs Azriel- Ok 2 big names, I am getting excited. This match teased me over and over. Every time it looked like the match was going to get going someone applied a chin lock for 2 minutes and just sat in the middle of the ring. Disappointing! Grade C
Jimmy Rave & Fast Eddie vs. Roderick Strong & Jerrelle Clark- I am seeing 4 people who are all very good wrestlers and can apply some high flying moves. Please don't tease me, let me see a great match! Please?! Slow moving again most of the match it was Rave and Eddie beating on Clark. Suddenly Clark tags out and in within 5 seconds he is healed and ready to go at it. 30 seconds of flash at the end and its done. Grade D+
CM Punk vs Colt Cabana- I have seen them wrestle 25 times, many of those times in person. This match up is usually just a fantastic display of wrestling holds, high flying, hard hits and an action adventure ride. I don't know what happened in this match. They traded hold for hold, and then had 30 seconds off. Walking around and nothing happening, and while I almost lost interest and then we had a few run ins and it was over. Grade C
The FIP style seems to be mat based wrestling. However its chin lock for one minute and break. Then walk around the ring for a minute, then wrestle, then arm bar for a minute then break. Do these for 15 minutes then hit one or two quick moves and its over. That coupled with no explanations for the matches, and zero crowds really makes for a boring DVD. I wouldn't recommend these to anyone.

Marvin the Martian & K-9: 50 Years on Earth (1960) Review

Marvin the Martian and K-9: 50 Years on Earth (1960)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This video was a bitter disappointment. I would go so far as to argue that it qualifies as false advertising! When I bought this video, my head was full of the wonderful Marvin moments I remember from when I was a kid (in the 70's). The ONLY worthwhile cartoon on this collection is 'Duck Dodgers,' a classic. What astounds me is that THE definitive Marvin cartoon ('Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!') is NOT on this video!! Instead, they have filled in with NON-Marvin cartoons. To make matters worse, 2 of the Marvin cartoons are the ones made late (late 60s-70s), which I thought were unwatchable when I was 7. Unfortunately, they only get worse with age.
(I live in England, but I'm an American, so I grew up on Saturday morning cartoons)

60 Minutes - The Network (March 25, 2007) Review

60 Minutes - The Network (March 25, 2007)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the story of how Al Qaida recruiters find people insane enough to become suicide bombers. In essence, they wander among the "moderate" Muslim community. When a "moderate" undergoes a tragic life crisis, they may seek solace and understanding in their religion of Islam...that is when the recruiter enters the stage.
The recruiter points out those bad things only happen to "bad" Muslims (by Koranic definition: a Bad Muslim is a peace-loving hypocrite who hasn't joined the jihad). They lure them into the dark, largely unknown mandates of the Koran and the Hadith, turning the poor moderate into a fundamentalist (what many wrongly term as "radicals"). Then a new soldier is ready for the jihad.
This is ALL confirmed by a former terrorist recruiter in this 60 Minutes interview. It is an indicator of why we should critically analyze this political dogma sporting the thin veneer of a "legitimate" religion. Ignorance of the hazard will not protect us.

Red Green Show: Network Deal & Science Fair (1998) Review

Red Green Show: Network Deal and Science Fair (1998)
Average Reviews:

This is the best of the series of 4 tapes that come in a boxed set. BUT if you've never watched the Red Green Show you'll miss the humor in the Network deal episode! So watch some other episodes first - to get a feel for Harold and Red's chemistry and THEN watch this one!
When the "new improved" Bernice comes out Red almost faints!!!
The Inflated Hipwader Contest is hillarious too!
The "Science Fair" is good too with some Jeff Foxworthy type jokes about being in 5th grade with your dad.
Of the 4 tapes this is the best one I think.

Tenchi Muyo - OVA DVD Boxed Set Review

Tenchi Muyo - OVA DVD Boxed Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It is impossible to put fully into words what Pioneer has done with this unbelievable (and totally complete) box set. Basically, they have taken an all-time favorite anime .. given it a digital remastering, along with Dolby 5.1 Japanese tracks (subtitled wonderfully I might add), along with a great job on the English dubbing, all 13 OVA Episodes, an interactive encyclopedia for Tenchi Fanatics and an unbeatable price. The animation is beautiful in the DVD format and extremely clear, which brings vibrant new life into this anime classic. Pretty much I would recommend this to any anime fan who hasn't seen the series yet (you really have no idea what you're missing out on!) or any Tenchi fan who would like to see this series in its ideal format. If you are new to the anime DVD scene like I am, make sure you put this set on your list of "to buy" collections ^_^ You won't be disapointed!

The Powerpuff Girls: The Complete Series - 10th Anniversary Collection (2008) Review

The Powerpuff Girls: The Complete Series - 10th Anniversary Collection (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Speaking as a 16 year old Canadian male, I can safely say that The Powerpuff Girls was awesome. With its unique animation style, immensely likeable characters, deliciously over the top cartoon violence and razor-sharp sense of wit, this show served as a reminder that Cartoon Network was once great. But unfortunately, to say the series has barely received any worthy home video releases is an understatement.
Until now, that is.
After a few scattered, kid-friendly compilations and a lacklustre first season set, the complete run of the show is at last making it to DVD. Considering that the past home video releases have completely neglected the last three seasons of the show, and that a fair amount of notable episodes from the other three seasons have also been neglected, it's great to see Warner Bros. is finally giving all of it to us in one handy package.
According to TVShowsonDVD.com, this set will be comprised of 6 double-sided discs containing all 78 episodes of the show and the previously released Christmas special, "'Twas the Fight Before Christmas". It's worth noting that the final episode, "See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey" (notable for being an all-singing episode), has never been broadcast in the States (although it has been broadcast in Canada and the UK), so it will be interesting to have.
If you're a fan like me, this set is an obvious must-buy. As for those who have never seen the show, it's easy to get into: just look past the sugary-sweet femininity and you'll find an incredibly sharp sense of humour.
UPDATE (01-23-09): Okay, so I got my copy. Each of the 6 discs represents one season of the show, and considering the sheer amount of material on each double-sided disc, everything is mastered at a pretty high bit rate. Of course, the episodes are all very lovely looking and sounding, as they'd better be, considering the animation style and age of the materials.
While I haven't thoroughly looked at the special features, I can tell you something fans might want to know:
"The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!!", that completely new episode animated in Adobe Flash and broadcast in the States the day before this set's release, IS included here. You need only pop disc 6, side B into your player and look under the extras section.
So did this set live up to my expectations? Oh, yeah. Still highly recommended, narrowing of classic to clunker ratio in the last two seasons notwithstanding.

The girls are treated like outcasts because they have inadvertently wrecked Townsville in a superpowered game of tag. Dragonball Z, Vol. 1 - Arrival Review

Dragonball Z, Vol. 1 - Arrival
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, I enjoyed this first of the many DVD's that Pioneer made of the Dragonball Z episodes. I was a little disappionted in this one though. I was expecting some extra stuff to be added on the DVD that wasn't on the VHS version. Like the DVD version of The Dead Zone had some deleted TV scenes that really kicked ***. Also, The World's Strongest had a Battle Arena option that showed the many fights of Goku. I thought that option was a great idea. Anyways, there are some things that are good about this title. The picture and sound quality are at its highest. And if you have the proper equipment, that makes the experience even more fulfilling. Well, that's my two-cents on this title. Just an average DVD that could have been a great DVD if some more effort were put into it.

The Onion Movie (2008)
Average Reviews:

This movie is really really funny. It's not "the greatest thing ever made" but it's still pretty damned hilarious. It's a great parody. I rented it hoping it was exactly what it was: a variety of parodies with a plot mixed in. No, it's not the paper.........it's a movie based on the Onion style of viewing the world. If you have ever seen Kentucky Fried movie this will seem like an updated companion piece. You really need to go into watching this movie with these things in mind. It's just a good ride. The movie isn't high-brow humour that's meant to be the best in the world but you'll get a chuckle out of it. I've been waiting for this for a while since I saw a preview on another DVD I rented. I know all my friends who are ZAZ (Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker) fans will love this and I am going to buy it so we can all watch it.
