First of all, MAD Magazine is not for kids.So why would they make a kids show out of it?Probably for money.Maybe I would be nicer if the show was actually funny, like MADtv.But no.Its filled with unfunny jokes and movie parodies unlike the magazine which is filled with hilarious jokes and even funnier movie and tv show parodies.MAD didn't you learn anything from MAD Magazine presents Up The Academy?

This show is top notch. The best Food Network has to offer! However, the DVD set only has 9 episodes over all three discs. It should have at least eight episodes per disc! Shame on the Food Network for treating their best show with one of the shabbiest treatments on DVD.

Cartoon Network Fridays, Vol. 1 Review

Cartoon Network Fridays, Vol. 1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's here - Cartoon Network's "Fridays" block is now on DVD ! For the first time see some of your favorite "Fridays" moments and lots more all wrapped up into one disc of fun. Your hosts Tommy and Tara along with a bunch of kids and puppet pals like Long Haul star in a ton of special features entitled "Skits and Bits" with other swell shorts like "Mr. Baby & Baby" and "Bad Clay Fables". There's also some episodes of Cartoon Network shows like "Foster's", "Camp Lazlo", and "My Gym Partner's a Monkey", which are all new to DVD.
Surely there might be a volume 2 in the works. Perhaps in volume 2, there will be some musical guest appearances as seen on Fridays plus more shows like "Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi", "Codename: Kids Next Door", and the new "Squirrel Boy" and "Class of 3000" series. I'll wait until then.
In the meantime, watch Cartoon Network every Friday night at 7:00 for brand-new stuff and such !

Cartoon Network Halloween 2 - Grossest Halloween Ever Review

Cartoon Network Halloween 2 - Grossest Halloween Ever

As far as receiving it on time and coming as promised .. it did.. I bought the DVD used and one of the episodes stalls because of a scratch on the DVD; however, the company made good on the defect. The episodes were a little disappointing though as there is only one (Operation Tricky: Codename Kids Next Door) that has anything to do with Halloween. I was hoping someone would be smart enough to make a DVD like this and put actual cartoons in relation to the holiday on it, like ... Ed, Edd n Eddy's "Boo Ha Ha" Halloween episode. If you are just looking for a DVD with a variety of cartoons on it, then this is a good choice, but as I said it could have had a better selection.

Cartoon Network Christmas - Yuletide Follies Review

I like this DVD. Episodes like "Fa-la-la-Ed" and "Courage's Nutcracker" are quite suitable to this DVD.
Maybe the next Cartoon Network holiday DVD will have the Eds' "Jingle Jingle Jangle" special as well as the other holiday themed episode of "I Am Weasel" and Johnny Bravo's first holiday episode. I'm anxious for that.

Cartoon Network Christmas 3 (2001) Review

Cartoon Network Christmas 3 (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Unlike "CN Halloween Volume 3", "CN Christmas Volume 3" is probably the best one yet ! Here's a look at what episodes this DVD has:
Camp Lazlo: "Snow Beans" - For the first time on DVD, see Lazlo and his fellow Bean Scouts as they take a ski trip in the mountains.
Billy and Mandy: "Billy and Mandy Save Christmas" - The greatest holiday special to date features our two young heroes and the Grim Reaper as they rescue Santa who has turned into a vampire.
Foster's: "Store Wars" - Bloo and the gang head to the mall as they search for the perfect birthday present for Madame Foster.
Ed, Edd n Eddy: "In Like Ed" - Kevin knows too much. This misconception leads to a covert operation conducted by the Eds themselves.
Kids Next Door: "Operation N.A.U.G.H.T.Y." - The Delightful Children from Down the Lane attempt to ruin Christmas by taking all the presents in the world while the KND takes the blame.
I'm surprised there are only FIVE shows on this DVD. Maybe they ought to throw in at least one of the following:
Courage the Cowardly Dog: "Snowman's Revenge" - The North Pole is suffering global warming, and the sinister Snowman decides to make a new home... at Courage's home !
Johnny Bravo: "Johnny on Ice" - Bravo accidentally gets frozen in a chunk of ice. A scientist later thaws him out thinking that he's the missing link.
Dexter's Lab: "A Mom Cartoon" - Dexter's mother goes holiday shopping and fights -that's right, FIGHTS- her way towards the last pair of latex gloves.
I Am Weasel: "The Legend of Big Butt" - Paranormalists Weasel and Baboon take a trip to the Himalayas in search of the elusive creature Big Butt.
My Gym Partner's a Monkey: "Cool Kids" - Jake Spidermonkey becomes part of the "in-crowd" at the school's polar classes.
They'll probably save that last one as well as the Foster's Christmas special, "A Lost Claus", for Volume 4 next year.

SOCIAL NETWORK Review

SOCIAL NETWORK
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Director David Fincher is back in fighting form! Those fearing he may have lost some of his bite with the ponderous "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" or the disappointing returns of the criminally overlooked "Zodiac" need not worry. "The Social Network" is a caustically funny and incredibly contemporary look at the evolution of Facebook. Playing like a thriller and a blisteringly dark comedy, this terrific film may be Fincher's most sophisticated piece to date (and certainly his most riveting since the days of "Seven" and "Fight Club"). On paper, "The Social Network" might not sound exhilarating but with the perfect screenwriter (Aaron Sorkin) and the perfect cast (Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, and Armie Hammer)--Fincher's tale of betrayal, pride, and avarice has become one of this year's must see films.
While I'm sure that everyone knows the subject matter of "The Social Network"--very briefly, the film's plot construction is structured as two pieces of litigation are being brought against Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (played with intensity by Eisenberg). One lawsuit is from his former business partner and best friend--a co-founder of the original website who got systematically squeezed out. The other is by a trio of Harvard grads (Armie Hammer plays 2 of the 3, they're twins, in a starmaking performance!) who claim Zuckerberg stole the idea from them after he was hired to create an exclusive dating site. Seen through these concurrent cases, deftly edited with flashback footage, the full picture starts to unravel. From Zuckerberg's social ineptitude, but superior intellect, a social revolution was born. And the more powerful Facebook grew, the more disconnected Zuckerberg became to his only friends and compelled by the drive for domination (his ultimate sense of acceptance).
Make no mistake, while "The Social Network" is incredibly smart and literate, it is also grandly entertaining. Screenwriter Sorkin (creator of "The West Wing" and my favorite "Sports Night") has put together what, in my opinion, is the best screenplay of the year. Sorkin is known for his whip fast dialogue and it is spot-on here! The movie is corrosively witty and uncompromisingly in your face. The film is cast with thoroughly unlikable types in a battle for supremacy. Eisenberg has never been better--no doubt Zuckerberg is a tool (both before and after his success), but Eisenberg makes you understand why and (I'm startled to say) actually appreciate it. Timberlake (as oily Napster creator Sean Parker) is a fantastically appealing devil-in-disguise, but as much as you may dislike him--he was integral to Facebook going wide. Hammer, as I said, is the film's biggest surprise. And Andrew Garfield, as Zuckerberg's betrayed partner, is vivid and alive--and, dare I say, the only character to elicit actual sympathy. But again, the film is merciless--even though we know that Garfield is screwed, we also know that it was an essential part of the successful expansion of Facebook. Business ethics be darned.
"The Social Network" is grown-up entertainment that has much to say about success in the modern era. I appreciated that no one veered away from the heart of darkness in this morality piece--that's what makes everything seem so relevant. Can someone be both repugnant and admirable? If you told me earlier in the year that a film about computer geeks at a keyboard would be edge-of-your-seat entertainment, I wouldn't have believed it. But here, I go. For sheer entertainment, remarkable performances, and an incredibly sophisticated screenplay--"The Social Network" is easily one of my favorite films of the year! Easily. KGHarris, 10/10.

Cartoon Network Halloween - 9 Creepy Capers Review

Cartoon Network Halloween - 9 Creepy Capers
Average Reviews:

I love this DVD. The episodes I liked include the Johnny Bravo episode where he meets Scooby-Doo and the Eds' first junkyard adventure. There are a few funny lines in some of these episodes, too. For example, the "Cow and Chicken" episode where Chicken misreads the eye chart and Courage's "incantation ritual".
Do you think they will make a Valentine's Day DVD ? If so, then the first one would have the Johnny Bravo Valentine's special and two of the Eds' episodes involving the Kanker sisters; and the second DVD will have the Eds' "Hanky Panky Hullaballoo" and two of Johnny Bravo's episodes. Just a thought.

Dexter's Laboratory: Season One (Cartoon Network Hall of Fame) Review

Dexter's Laboratory: Season One (Cartoon Network Hall of Fame)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In Dexter's Labratory Lives The Smartest Boy You've Ever Seen! This is a classic series from the 1990's and from what many consider to be the peak of Cartoon Network's programming. Created by Genndy Tartakovsky, the mind that would later bring us such classic series as Samurai Jack and Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003-05), Dexter's Lab is a truly wonderful series on so many levels. Finally being properly released on DVD this complete first season set will contain the following 13 twenty two minute episodes spread across 2-discs:
DISC 1
1 Deedeemensional, Dial M for Monkey: Magmanamus, Maternal Combat
2 Dexter Dodgeball, Dial M For Monkey: Rasslor, Dexter's Assistant
3 Dexter's Rival, Dial M For Monkey: Simion, Old Man Dexter
4 Double Trouble, Dexter's Lab: A Story, Changes
5 Jurassic Pooch, Dial M For Monkey: Orgon Grindor, Dimwit Dexter
6 Dee Dee's Room, Dial M For Monkey: Huntor, The Big Sister
7 Star Spangled Sidekicks, The Justice Friends: TV Superpals, Gameover
8 Babysitter Blues, The Justice Friends: Valhallen's Room, Dream Machine
DISC 2
9 Dollhouse Drama, The Justice Friends: Krunk's Date, The Big Cheese
10 Way of DeeDee, The Justice Friends: Say Uncle Sam, Tribe Called Girl
11 Spacecase, The Justice Friends: Ratman, Dexter's Debt
12 The Justice Friends: Bee Where?, Mandarker
13 Inflata DeeDee, The Justice Friends: Can't Nap, Monstory
In all the thirteen episodes are comprised of 38 individual stories which adds up to 281 minutes of Dexter. There will be English Subtitles and video will obviously be Standard Full Frame.
I can't say how classic this series truly is. Who could forget characters such as Dexter's rival the nasal voiced Mandark? His lacksadaisical sister DeeDee always interfering with his experiments? Or Dexter's Mom and Dad who never had a clue of his secret lab or of what was really going on in the house. On top of all the delightful Dexter centric episodes are the episodes that focus on The Justice Friends or the episodes that feature the space monkeys.
I'm surprised that no special features are currently listed for this release and hope that changes in the near future (The similar and recently released Johnny Bravo set had some wonderful features including commentaries by the creators and voice actors). At any rate it will be great for fans to be able to at long last own these episodes on a proper DVD set and let's just hope that enough people buy this to justify the release of the rest of the series. Thanks for your time.

Controversial Classics, Vol. 2 - The Power of Media (All the President's Men / Network / Dog Day Afternoon) (Two-Disc Special Edition) (1975)

All three of these movies were among the greatest social commentaries of 1970s. They were quintessential in showing us how America lost its innocence; from the corruption in our government to the bastardization of the media to our adoration of scandal. I suppose Sidney Lumet's "Serpico" should have been included in this set too, as that film was the first to record the depth of corruption in the police force, but I have to admit, "Dog Day Afternoon" is a lot more entertaining! All three of these movies are scintillating entertainment on an intellectual scale that Hollywood rarely measures up to anymore. But these films are also great and important in how they foretold the pathetic state that our media is in now (including the lack of investigative journalism in our current printed press). In fact, "All The President's Men" is as politically relevant as ever - the similarities with this administration are very interesting! And WOW! -- all the extras on these discs look phenomenal!! I'm glad I hadn't bought the earlier 'no extras' releases of these films. If you've already bought them buy this set anyway - you know you're gonna watch them hundreds of times!
