Scary Godmother Halloween Spooktakular (2003) Review

Since Halloween is my fovorite Holiday, I could not resist buying this DVD for me, and my kids. I had not previously seen this made-for-TV special, but found it for such a reasonable price, I took the plunge. In hindsight, a good move. Here is a list of my thoughts as they spill from my gooey BRAIN!!...
-Why 4 stars? The CGI is a little crude (when compared to other TV CGI productions). I'm being a little picky, but I found it a distraction to see ocassional surfaces protrude through things unintentionally (Head through hare) and unatural motion for human characters (a bit "floaty").
-The story is near perfect. It captures the Halloween spirit we all remember as kids. All FUN with a hint of SCARE!!
-Some references will become dated with time (I'm a rich baseball player in an SUV") but overall, it's not too trendy.
-I got a little tired of the "Wolfman being hungry" gag. The vampire family, on the other hand, epitomize funny scares.
-This DVD is extras free. A bit dissapointing but not a show stopper.
-Color is spectacular. All the greens, oranges, blacks, reds and purples you wish Halloween shows would display.
-Dispite the nit-picking, I really fell in love with this as a holiday regular. It will be a tradition in our house.
-Some of the dialogue was ill timed and poorly paced, but the voices were spot-on. Truly appealing characters all around.
-Definitely a few lessons for kids to learn from this adventure. "Consequences" certainly a key point. Also "judging a book by it's cover", "don't believe everything you're told" and being responsible, are hammered home while enhancing the story. No small accomplishment.
-The soundtrack is "Shock-n-roll" alla "The Munsters Theme". Actually pretty cool!
In a nutshell, other than a few technical "gliches" and some timing flaws (at least I thought so), you can't go wrong with this Halloween "Spook-tacular", especially if you have pre-teens, though I really enjoyed it myself.

Justice League Unlimited - Season Two (DC Comics Classic Collection) (2001) Review

Justice League Unlimited - Season Two (DC Comics Classic Collection) (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Several SPOILERS here.
Well, the ride had to end sometime. JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON is the culminating season to this excellent animated series and serves to put a capper on the DC Animated Universe, which consists of BATMAN: T.A.S., SUPERMAN: T.A.S., BATMAN BEYOND, STATIC SHOCK, and ZETA PROJECT. While the current THE BATMAN and LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES continue the tradition somewhat, these new shows do not follow the same continuity.
This "second" season is, technically, the third season of JLU (or, even more comprehensively, the fifth season of JUSTICE LEAGUE) as JLU's "first" season dvd set actually contains Seasons 1 and 2. Hopefully, that wasn't too confusing to follow. Anyway, this dvd set offers the final 13 episodes in glorious wide screen and continues to showcase lesser lights from its expanded superhero roster (Hawkman in two episodes, the Warlord, Deadman, Green Arrow, the Huntress, etc.) as they are teamed up with several of the original seven founders.
Several episodes pay homage to CHALLENGE OF THE SUPERFRIENDS by updating the Legion of Doom, a haphazard collection of supervillains put together to combat the JLU, which then becomes the season's major story arc. Yes, there's even a Hall of Doom here. And, when we aren't privy to Gorilla Grodd and Lex Luthor engaging in power plays as they vie for the leadership of the Legion, we get to see highly diverting, self-contained episodes such as "Chaos at the Earth's Core" (I used to collect the Warlord), "Flash and Substance" (featuring a Bats/Flash team-up), "Patriot Act" (which salutes the Seven Soldiers of Victory and, in a way, resuscitates the defunct Cadmus Project), and "Far from Home" (on her 21st birthday, Supergirl, with GL and Green Arrow are transported to the 31st Century and meet the Legion of Super-Heroes).
Meanwhile, the superb "The Great Brain Robbery" (which has Luthor and Wally swapping minds) is a favorite Legion of Doom episode of mine. The Legion of Doom storyline, by the way, climaxes with the last two episodes, "Alive" and "Destroyer," as the writers throw out all the stops and bring back powerhouse villains Brainiac and Darkseid. By the way, the monumental clash between Superman and Darkseid is a must-see.
In my opinion, there isn't a lot of bad moments in this season (or in the entire series, come to think of it). Like a reviewer already mentioned, the disappearance of the Martian Manhunter for a significant portion of the season and the somewhat inconclusive resolution to Shayera and GL's often turbulent relationship are two which fall more in the negative category. And whatever happened with Batman and Wonder Woman's flirtations? Also, I wish the Blue Devil or Blue Beetle had been featured in a show (after all, Ted Kord's best bud, Booster Gold, starred in his own episode). On the positive side, the stories and the animation continue to be amazing. The stellar voice actors maintain their high quality work as they consistently add depth and resonance to their characters. Much as the Batman, as voiced by the iconic Kevin Conroy, and the Joker, by the versatile Mark Hamill, have been firmly embedded in my brain, so, too, now, are Michael Rosenbaum's Flash, Phil LaMarr's Jon Stewart, Maria Canal's Hawkgirl, Carl Lumbly's J'onn J'onzz, Susan Eisenberg's Wonder Woman, and Clancy Brown's Lex Luthor. George Newbern ends up being pretty good as the Man of Steel, but I still prefer Tim Daly. Sorry.
What started out, innocently enough, in 1992's definitive BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES has, over the course of 14 years, expanded into an animated universe in which so many significant DC costumed players have made an appearance. It's been such a sweet ride. I just want to state that never in my wildest dreams did I expect the JUSTICE LEAGUE (UNLIMITED) to be this good and this addictive. Thinking back, I probably was basing my expectations on the fun but ultimately shallow and juvenile Hanna-Barbera's SUPERFRIENDS. This current reincarnation offers so much more in terms of depth, emotion, story, scope, and creativity. The characters in JL and JLU are multi-layered, have inter-personal exchanges and conflicts, and do change and grow like real people (Hawkgirl being a prime example); the writers (Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, etc.) did such a fantastic job of making the viewers care for their product, the sum of 91 sincerely produced episodes. I'll miss the Justice League on television very, very much. Just thank goodness for dvds, huh?

Gilmore Girls: The Complete Fourth Season (Digipack) (2003) Review

Gilmore Girls: The Complete Fourth Season (Digipack) (2003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There was much talk and debate over Gilmore Girls' fourth season. Some thought it was great and that it was one of their best seasons. Others thought that it had a lot of good stuff, but had problems and was, quite easily, it's weakest season. I can't say that it's a bad season, because it's not. The second half contains some truly great episodes, but season four was a disjointed disappointment. The show went through a transition this year, and shows that go through a certain 'growing up' phase do have some problems. They usually don't go through it unscathed. Season four of GG is no exception. Rory leaves home and Stars Hollow and goes off to live in her dorm at Yale. This leaves a new, and awkward, dynamic between mother and daughter and the show. The relationship between the two was a major factor of the series, and the fact that they spoke to one another on cell phones more than anything else it seemed was also a component that didn't add to the season. They added in the character of Jason 'Digger' Stiles, and most people didn't really like him or warm up to him. This was not actor Chris Eigelman's fault, as he was good. The only actor who could match Lauren Graham's rapid speak and quick wit. Lorelei also had new developments in her life. She and Sookie were getting serious about opening their own inn, and in the meantime, take on careers as caterers. It seemed that the writers had a hard time settling into their new set ups and situations, and it left the show disjointed, misguided, and just not the same show. This was mostly during the first half of the season, although there were some highlights. "Chicken Or Beef" was a classic GG episode dealing with Rory running into ex Dean, who invites her to his upcoming wedding. "The Festival Of Living Art" was another notable episode, with the town becoming living pieces of art in the town square. But there were more misfires and duds than great eps. "An Affair To Remember" had Rory spending the entire episode looking for a place to study. This was a problem with Rory. There was this big new change in her world, and the writers didn't seem to exploit it much. Rory was lost for a good portion of the season, and it seemed they couldn't figure anything good to do with her. Thankfully, once the second half kicks in, the show regains it's footing and the writers seemed to have finally gotten a hold of what the show wa doing this season. The second half really kicked into gear, and it's what saved the season. This is why I gave it four stars. Jess returns, and not for the good, in "A Family Matter", and the season had one of it's best episodes with "A Clang In The Clamor", a classic GG episode with a wonderful Luke/Lorelei moment in the old church. "Tick..Tick..Tick..Boom" and "Afterboom" was a tremendous two parter. A true season highlight. Lorelei and Sookie's new inn, The Dragonfly, is coming into shape towards the end of the season, and it appears to be a great new place. "Luke Can See Her Face" is a great episode. It's a pivotal ep in the L/L movement, when Luke finally realizes that Lorelei is the one. The season finale, "Raincoats And Recipes", is the type of stuff season finales are made off. Pitch perfect. An episode that changes everything in the Gilmores' world, and promises great stuff to come. And come it did in the show's magnificent fifth season. Season four was not bad. It had problems and flaws, and is easily it's 'least' season, but it overcame them in the second half. Ther performances were still up to snuff, and Lauren Graham continues to be one of the top best actresses on TV. She has "Emmy" written all over her, and continues to be denied that honor. Yes, moving out and moving away can be awkward and things are just different. Maybe that was the writers' point, but it was obvious that it's hard, different, and awkward to write as well. Season 4 started off with a whimper, but it sure ended with a major bang.

Boola boola! Rory starts her first year at Yale. Moola moola! Lorelai finally opens the Dragonfly Inn, although it takes her last dime (and a loan from Luke). The Gilmore girls return for another scintillating, snappy-patter year of Gilmore Girls. Welcome, Gilmore groupies, to the fourth season of the series acclaimed for its agile balance of life and laughter. Oh yes, and love. Lorelai has a romantic fling with her father's new, younger partner, but ends the year with the guy every fan has known was right for her all along. For Rory, Cupid seems to be on sabbatical -- then Dean and Jess re-enter her life. Sookie gets a Davey, Lane gets a life, Kirk gets a girlfriend(!) and you get a 22-episode vacation in Stars Hollow, plus DVD Extras and a mint on the pillow. DVD Features:Additional ScenesChallenges:Stars Hollow Interactive Triva GameOther:Who Wants To Get Together - a montage of the season's best hook-ups. A&E -- A&E Original Movie Murder In A Small Town Review

AandE -- AandE Original Movie Murder In A Small Town
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One of two mysteries Gene Wilder wrote and starred in for A&E, this film is fun, witty, charming, a treasure from the mind of Gene Wilder. Full of light and subtle humor, with wonderful dramatic over- and undertones, Wilder proves that he still has what it takes to entertain and evoke genuine emotional response.
While I am sad that he no longer acts, his recent novellas help ease the sadness, and the Cash Carter mysteries may have been the perfect way for Wilder to gracefully exit the screen and leave us still missing him.
You can't go wrong buying either of these films. Whether you are a fan of Gene Wilder or a fan of good mysteries or both, these are a great addition to a collection or a great gift to give away.

The Bionic Woman: Season Two Review

The Bionic Woman: Season Two
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After the huge sales of "The Bionic Woman-Season 1" on DVD last October now comes word from Universal Studios that "The Bionic Woman-Season 2" arrives in stores on May 17th, 2011. This is the series' first complete season because season one only contained 13 episodes as "The Bionic Woman" was a mid-season replacement on ABC. Season 2 started on network television on September 22, 1976 and contains 22 episodes. The great thing about this boxset (besides the fact that "The Bionic Woman" is available on DVD for fututre generations to enjoy) is that there are two crossover episodes included from "The Six Million Dollar Man" so the viewer can watch the complete full story arch on "The Bionic Woman" box set.
There are a slew of bonuses including a new featurette with Lindsay Wagner, Kenneth Johnson, and crew members entitled "Bionic Blast" where they discuss the merchandising of the series, how the stunts were performed, and who their favorite villins were. There are new audio commentaries on select episodes by Lindsay and series creator Johnson. Actress Janice Whitby (who played fembot Katy in the episode "Kill Oscar") has stated she has done some voice over work that will be included as commentary on this set. Finally, there is also a gag reel and photo gallery included.
"The Bionic Woman" continued to enthrall audiences young and old upon its first network broadcast with season 2 finishing a respectful #14 in the national Nielsen Ratings. This would, however, be the series' final year on ABC as the network canned it citing "The Bionic Woman" was not attracting the kind of young demographic it desired. Season 3 was picked up by rival network NBC in the fall of 1977.
Guest-stars in season 2 include Stephanie Powers, Sandy Duncan, John Saxon, Vincent Price, and Julie Newmar. This is a 5 disc set with english subtitles and english mono sound.
This was the season Lindsay won her much deserved Emmy as Oustanding Actress in a Drama Series for the two-part episode "Deady Ringer". Her competition that year was Angie Dickinson for "Police Woman", "Michael leaned ("The Waltons"), Sada Thompson for "Family", and Kate Jackson ("Charlie's Angels").
The following is a list of episodes included in "The Bionic Woman-Season 2" box set, all 22 shows along with the 1 crossover episode from "The Six Million Dollar Man". Also listed are the airdates.
1. "The Return of Bigfoot-Part 1" from "Six Million Dollar Man", Sept. 19, 1976
2. "The Return of Bigfoot-Part 2, Sept. 22, 1976
3. "In This Corner, Jamie Summers", Sept. 29, 1976
4. "Assault on the Princess", Oct. 6, 1976
5. "Road To Nashville, Oct. 20, 1976
6. "Kill Oscar-Part 1", Oct. 27, 1976
7. "Kill Oscar-Part 2" from "Six Million Dollar Man", but released in syndication as a "Bionic Woman" episode, Oct. 31, 1976
8. "Kill Oscar-Part 3, Nov. 3, 1976
9. "Black Magic", Nov. 10, 1976
10. "Sister Jamie", Nov. 24, 1976

15. "Doomsday is Tomorrow-Part 2", Jan. 26, 1976
16. "Deadly Ringer-Part 1", Feb. 2, 1977
17. "Deadly Ringer-Part 2", Feb. 9, 1977
18. "Jamie and the King", Feb. 23, 1977
19. "Beyond the Call", March 9, 1977
20. "The DeJohn Caper", March 16, 1977
21. "The Night Demon", March 23, 1977
22. "Iron Ships and Dead Men", March 30, 1977
23. "Once a Thief", May 4, 1977
UPDATE: JULY 1, 2011: Fans have been complaining (and rightly so) that the episode "Deadly Ringer" has poor audio quality. This was due to the fact that Universal couldn't find a proper master tape for that particular show (remember these episodes are over 30 years old). Now, fans can rejoice in knowing the studio has found another master tape and has corrected the problem. For fans not satisfied with disc 4 that contains "Deadly Ringer" they can contact Universal for a replacement disc by emailing them at USHE.ConsumerRelations@bydeluxe.com or by phoning 888-882-5779.

It looks like the plan is to introduce Ben 10 Alien Force Season One in three volumes. Volume one is 110 minutes so it probably has 5 episodes. Volume 2 is 88 minutes so it is probably 4 episodes. There were 13 episodes in the Season, so that leaves room for for a Volume 3 with the last 4 episodes. Whatever happened to providing the entire season at once?

Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999) Review

Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I watched the movie as it aired on tv, and enjoyed it so much I rented it a number of times when it released. Taking only 90% to be near historical accuracy, it still has captivated me enough to make me pre-order the re-publication of the book "Fire in the Valley" by Paul Freiberger and Michael Swaine, on which the movie is based, just to find out what the movie left out. This movie gives such an insight into a true revolution, taking the computers out of the hands of corporate types, and giving them over to the masses. Noah Wyle is Steve Jobs in this movie. His acting brings to life one of the most influential people of the time. Anthony Michael Hall does a superb job of showing Bill Gates as the capitalistic businessman in its trueist form. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star rating is that I feel they spend a little too much time on Steve Jobs' personal drug trip. This was time that could have been better spent explaining what has happened since 1997, when Jobs came back to Apple. Or, they could have led up to the Gates vs. United States trial. All in all a great movie. Rent it, Buy it, show it to your kids. This is current history, and it is relevant to today.

The revolution came when we weren't looking. It happened in a garage. In a dorm room. In countless hours of effort, imagining and intrigue. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates were changing the way the world works, lives and communicates. The event-packed saga of the quirky visionaries who jump-started the future unfolds with exhilarating, cutting-edge style in Pirates of Silicon Valley. Noah Wyle (ER) portrays Jobs and Anthony Michael Hall (The Dead Zone) portrays Gates in this chronicle of the fierce and often humorous battle to rule the fledgling personal computer empire. "The story is almost Shakespearean... it's a tale of lust, greed, ambition, love and hate," writer/director Martyn Burke reflects. And it's a success story unlike any other.

The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy: The Complete Season 1 Review

The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy: The Complete Season 1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If this ain't Gothic Lolita, I don't know what is !
The 1st season of the hit series "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" is now finally on a two-disc DVD set with a whole lotta episodes on there starring the mean-spirited Mandy, the moronic Billy, and of course, The Grim Reaper himself. Such episodes include:
"Meet the Reaper" - The original pilot episode that started it all. As Grim attempts to reap the soul of a hamster named Mr. Snuggles, the two kids strike a deal with him, which he lost to.
"Fiend Is Like Friend Without the 'R'" - Introducing Nergal, a creepy being from the center of the earth, who kidnaps Billy and Mandy to be his friends. Soon Grim becomes concerned and reluctantly rescues them.
"Grim Or Gregory" - A case of mistaken identity on Halloween night has Grim confused with another kid in a reaper costume !
"Beasts and Barbarians" - A major inspiration to the video game, Grim transports the kids into another dimension where they battle bigger-than-life monsters in order to cure their gaming addictions.
"Hoss Delgado: Spectral Exterminator" - The first appearance of this tough guy who discovers and attempts on capturing the Grim Reaper.
"To Eris Human" - Introducing the sexy Goddess of Chaos, Eris, who takes Mandy as her minion leaving Grim feeling rather dumped.
"Toadblatt's School of Sorcery" - The first "Harry Potter" parody episode with its weird magic and other strange creatures. 'Nuff said.
"Brown Evil" - A two-parter where Billy cooks up some brownies that attracts a humongous horde of zombies ! It's up to Hoss Delgado to stop them.
"Creating Chaos" - One of the funniest episodes, Eris now recruits Billy to spread her chaos upon the globe. Unfortunately, Billy himself is a little more chaotic than her magic apple can do.
"Tween Wolf" - The hapless Irwin transforms into a werewolf which Billy adopts as his new pet.
"Love Is EVOL Spelled Backwards" - Nergal returns and attempts to marry Billy's Aunt Sis. Let's just hope Billy doesn't have that freak as his uncle.
This new set has an overload of bonus features like a commentary and an interview with series creator Maxwell Atoms, plus the "Brains" music video as seen in the classic episode "Little Rock of Horrors". The weirdest special features in the second disc include an episode in "Burp-O-Rama" and a virtual pet Mr. Snuggles. Perhaps the best bonus feature of all in the set is the 2 "Evil Con Carne" bonus episodes with optional "Skarr-O-Vision" feature. (I wish, however, they put in ALL of the "Evil Con Carne" episodes in the set. Then we can have "Grim and Evil" again !)
So if you've been waiting for this set to come by, get it while you still can. One thing's for sure, this is one series that will let you look Death in the eye... and laugh real hard. I really REALLY hope the rest of the "Billy and Mandy" series will be put on DVD real soon. But in the meantime, look for brand-new "Grim Adventures" episodes Friday nights on Cartoon Network's all-new "Fried Dynamite" block.

The City: Season One Part Two Review

The City: Season One Part Two

I have to say I realllyyy hated the first part of The City, the spinoff from The Hills, about Whitney Port, the eternal sunshine LA sweetheart who comes to NY to work in fashion and finds a few (lots!!!) hurdles along the way. However, the second parter of The City is AWESOME! Everything has changed, Whitney is now back working for fashion bitch-powerhouse Kelly Cutrone and is trying to launch her own fashion line, and balance an old frenemy Roxy. Roxy is both good and bad, she often lets Whitney down, as in embarassing her at an important pitch meeting, and giving her dumb fashion ideas, which Whitney follows, yet Roxy often stands up for her friend, such as bitching out Whitney's cheating new guy. BUTTTT the best part of the city part 2 isnt Whitney, or even Kelly Cutrone, its the ever fabulous bitch fest 09 at Elle magazine between Whitney's old nemesis Olivia Palermo and the ever fashionable and unlike Olivia capable Erin Kaplan the PR director. The girls just hate each other right away, and every task that Olivia gets from Erin she f's up, when Olivia comes to boss Joe Zee, he basically either takes Olivia's side or brushes it under the rug ( YEs, this is a scripted tv show). Olivia seems to think she can just show up, look good and leave, and Erin is always ever ready to tell Olivia where to go, and the girls problems finally come to a head in the season finale. I highlyyy reccomend this part of The City, its juicy, fun, and fashionable. Its what The Hills USED to be.

It's hard to resist a well written (or performed) mystery. Henning Mankell knows how to write mysteries that will keep you entranced to the very end and the Swedish productions of his novels are equally compelling. While I love the Kenneth Branagh PBS Wallender's, I believe this series is even better! It has a very strong cast, with Krister Henricksson as a sensative and thoughtful Kurt Wallander and Johanna Sallstrom as his, now, police officer daughter Linda, leading the cast. These are well worth reading the subtitles for, and are certainly mysteries I will watch over and over, as well as share with friends.

King of the Hill - The Complete Fifth Season (1997)

It is very diappointing to know that this series isn't well known all over the world as much as that other family, you know, the yellow skinned family, with the naught boy whose name starts with B and finishes with a T, and his father who loves dougnuts and says D'Oh!! all the time.
Now i live in europe, so i don't know much about American Culture, but after seeing five seasons of King of the Hill, i must admit that i have come to know more about America and i have huge interest in America and how the americans live and what they belive and stand for. Thank god that they are finally releasing this series in Uk. Maybe it will finally get the attention and huge praise it deserves.
I noticed that the animation has improved slightly from the past seasons, and that certain continuity lines are still carried on, like for example's Nancy and John Redcorn's break up, with John Redcorn trying to tell Dale and Joseph about the truth of Joseph's real biological father, or Hank's father, Cotton, and his new baby son.
I really love this series, but the reason why i am not giving this dvd a five star is because there are certain episodes which seem to be the same like others from previous seasons, for example Bobby wanting to do something which his father doesnt approve of and end up agreeing with each other, or Peggy doing something shamefull and trying to make up with hank etc etc. There are some original stories but it seems some stories have already been told.
For fans of this series i highly recommend this dvd, and for new comers i suggest you start with the fisrt season. i am sure that you will agree with me that they are better than that other animated family.!

What I Like About You: The Complete First Season (2002)
Average Reviews:

"What I Like About You" is a cute WB sitcom about two sisters living together in New York. Jennie Garth of "90210" plays the older sister Val, who is a bit of a neurotic and the parental figure in her teenage sister, Holly's life. The two other regulars in the first season are Val's goofy boyfriend, Jeff, who runs a restaurant and Holly's best friend, Gary. The storylines revolve around Val's love life and her job at an advertisement agency and Holly's tendency to get into trouble due to her spontaneous nature. In subsequent seasons, new characters are added to the show and the humor gets a little nuttier. Season 2, 3 and 4 are very different from this first season, but in a good way. The show only gets better and better. It may not have been a breakthrough sitcom or particularly original, but I always found "What I Like About You" to be a fun, enjoyable show and definitely one of the best sitcoms ever on The WB. It kept me coming back for all four seasons with the sisters' romantic relationships, the lighthearted fun and the occasional cliffhangers.

Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory: Season 2 Review

Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory: Season 2
Average Reviews:

If you're looking just to enjoy the respective episodes of the Fantasy Factory 2 then this DVD is for you. However if you're looking for the same production quality found within the first season DVD that was released by MTV you may have to keep waiting. The episodes have no commentary, the menus are bland, and though the DVD does include deleted scenes you just can't pick a specific scene you have to watch them all. And the deleted scenes included within the dvd have poor sound quality with peoples voices randomly cutting in and out.

America's Castles - Return to Newport Review

America's Castles - Return to Newport
Average Reviews:

The reason I gave one star is because there is nothing lower. All the America's Castles DVDs that have the purple playing surface I have trouble with. None of them play on my best, (high priced) machine but will play on my lesser quality backup. However, "Return to Newport" absolutely refused to play on either machine no matter what I tried to get around it. This was very disappointing to me as I had waited for ages to get this particular show. I have no trouble with the America's Castles, two disc, Grand Tour set or with Hearst Castle as both of those have the usual silver playing surface. Beware of purple DVDs!

History -- In Search of History : Real Dracula, The Review

History -- In Search of History : Real Dracula, The
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This documentary is about the supposed "real life of Dracula-" but somehow completely fails to analyze Dracula correctly. Dracula was a complex man who was brutal and terrifying to his enemies, but loving and fair to his own people. While the movie went into great detail about his brutality, there is no mention of many of the positive reforms that greatly benefited the peasantry.
Although entertaining, as a scholarly source on the TRUE nature of Dracula, this documentary fails to adequately represent Dracula.
